I'm not sure if anyone else is getting this but when I log out of here, I am given a screen that says ACCESS DENIED and a bunch of other rubbish. this has gone on now for about the last 3 times I have signed on.

I use the upper log-out button above. I tried the one on the left panel and I get the same thing.

I figured I might as well let you all know about this. Sorry but I did not see the problems section..

Yeah, it happens to me as well, Winterhawk.

The reason for this is simply down to the spammers. They forced Jig's hand and you must now sign in BEFORE you are allowed access to even read messages on the forums.

When you log out, it defaults to the forum overview - which is now a restricted page. That's why this is happening.

We've been discussing various upgrades that the forums are desperately in need of in the staff room. Jig won't be able to implement the necessary upgrades until he gets his broadband access, though. (He's moving house at the moment)

Until then, we're just gonna have to put up with this annoying problem. The only way to avoid it is to not logout - unless you're on a shared computer, of course. (Don't let your wife use your account, Winterhawk!)

We have "contingency plans" in case the spammers continue to spam the forums even after the upgrades though. And trust me, they are NOT nice plans for your average forum user. Big problems require drastic measures though. :(

So has this been solved? Even though I no longer log out, When I come in I have to sign in again.

Hopefully we are somewhat back to normal.
:D

I sign in so often that I have forgotten my password.

Yes, that means I don't sign in. Yay cookies!

Had to read your post twice then, Azhdeen...

We haven't had any more instances of spam since the changes, but Jig still hasn't got broadband access yet. Instead, Nemitor will/has been given ftp access to the site to test if the upgrades will work/do them.

Of course, there is a tiny shnce that the process will result in the loss of posts/the entire forums, but hopefully the backups will ensure this is fixed.

lol i used to rely on floppies a lot, till every pretty much every file i had was more than 1.38MB. Disks are cheap as chips (lol) now, the easiest way is to just insert a disk into the drive, hit my computer, select the blank disk and drag any files you want to burn onto it. There should be an option in the left hand pane so burn the stuff so go ahead - what are you waiting for?

Or get a program like Nero which is more professional

About the site, guest postings are gone for now and might not be coming back since its not used much.

The site will be receiving a update soon to hopefully block spam attacks and also to get more functionality and features. As we need to bring botf2 community up to spec ready for the new year of 2007.

Burning a cd.

1.

Get lighter fluid
Spray on cd
set alight with match
Walla a "burning" cd :p
Image

2.

Use nero as most cd rw drives have it bundled with it.

3.

http://www.worldstart.com/tips/file-man ... n-a-cd.htm

Good windows xp guide a little down the page of that link.

Floppy disks, now a days, are the single most unreliable pieces of data storage you could EVER invest in. They are fragile, easily corruptable, and they are deathly alergic to magnets. Out of a box of floppies, I have easily trashed half of them as they are unusable. As far as I'm concerned, they are only useful as bootdisks, and even then you need to make sure you have a million duplicates incase some of the disks corrupt.

Windows XP, assuming you have a CD burner drive, can copy files to a CD exactly like you used to do it with floppy disks. It's crazy easy. If you can put stuff on floppies using My Computer, you can back up your files on to CD.

I'm surprised M$ hasn't given XP DVD burning support yet.

By the way... throwing a CD in a microwave makes some really interesting patterns on the disc. The microwave will cause the bottom layer of the disc to crack, and some cool designs can result from it. Just don't zap the CD for too long and, of course, the CD is unusable afterwards. The CD may spark a bit. By the way... if you do try this, I'm definitely not responsible for any damage to your microwave :p Use caution.
