So if Someone wanted to build up a webpage, simple one at that where would be a good place to look at and start. i don't know really what providers are good or bad, and as i'am getting off my current ISP i don't think it's wise to use one of theres.

Any ideas appreciated

Regards Wolfe

I've heard Google has some web hosting services available now. Here is the link if you want to check it out. Not sure if you can FTP your files over, but take a look.

Lots of people i know recommend 1&1 @ http://www.1and1.co.uk. Features avalible for Windows and Linux users - maybe Macs. They offer reasoable hosting from £2.34 a month.

Or you could go the route of free websites but they're a bit tacky mostly

if you dont want SQL, then take googlepages.

if you have Gmail, then you have googlepages.

its the best for basic websites, and ive tried most other competitors.

(you cannot FTP over with googlepages, but they have an online system thats just as easy if not easier)

the best thing to do if you want SQL, PHP, etc support is to host it yourself.

but that requires server software and port forwarding.

Which can cost a heck of a lot to rent a server. My mate paid £30 quid a month for his but that was a CS:Source one.

Be careful, sometimes ISP's get a little testy when you start hosting websites through your home connection.

depends where you live, and what provider you use.

I have never had a problem, and if I did, then I just quote the first.

I use http://www.bravenet.com/ It is an excellent site plus gives you a lot of extra toys if you want them. Plus the pay per month is not bad at all. and you get a lot of bandwidth to work with.

here is my site. It is still being built but can give you an idea..

Looking good, little suggestion though? Black text on blue background doesn't go great - yellow or white are usually safe. Chris

AGGGGG Sorry guys, I was working on it last night. Trying to add a background to a CSS page. And as you can see when I went to put things back to how I had them well .. lol I wrote the wrong color code..

cdrwolfe, I know your after a guestbook feature. I always waited till I was done with all my pages befr adding one. If you search you will find them and most of all of them come with there own code to add them to your pages. the same with counters and other things.

LOL I do actualy build webpages way better then what you all saw.
Sadly I can not find my other pages I build years ago. Darn!

Oh well. Hope that helps a bit.

Wanted to say I fixed my pages so the color is back to where it should be.
