I'm going to take the next three weeks off to prepare for and take my final exams. I've spent so much time working on Supremacy this semester that I've been neglecting my classes. I'd rather not have to re-take any of them next semester, so I'm going to temporarily shelve this project until the semester is over on December 15. Then, after a long weekend of drinking, I'll be back at work on the game .
Just letting you guys know, as I probably won't be around the forums as much during this period, so if I don't respond to your posts, don't worry--I'll be back .
This week I managed to get Supremacy ported over to a new architecture. The demo thus far has manipulated the game data directly, whereas the final game will have a multi-tier architecture in which the game engine runs on a server. I've got a prototype of that architecture in place now, with basic multiplayer support, so you can expect a new demo release with multiplayer support and a few other enhancements in late December or early January. That will mark the single greatest advancement in the game's development since I released the first demo.
Thanks to everyone here for their continued support, and please feel free to go on discussing game features in my absence. I can get caught up when I return .
Cheers,
Mike

Yeah, good luck with your studies Mike!
Obviously your personal life is more important than any game - no matter what everyone else thinks...
Enjoy the "time off" - even though it means work. At least you can look forward to a christmas without exams and revision then...

Very best of luck Mike. It's really good of you to let us know.
If you're half as talented with your studies as you are with your game design then you'll do just fine.

there is nothing better than to study during several weeks and then taking all the exams one after the other. The peace of mind you get once you finally got finished with them is just great.
Good luck mate!

good luck man.
i know I'll need it for my finals. I fear many long nights of studying under a dim light, with a few bottles of "Hooah" and "Bawls"

What is the Dominion home system?
The other four have Sol, Qo'nos, Romulus and Cardassia.
Anyone know? Will it be made up?

The Dominion starts with a giant, Rogue planet ("The Great Link") in the Omarion Nebula. I have configured the game so that more than one home system can be specified, so an additional homeworld could be added with a Jem'Hadar population.

the problem with that, is that they will have an immediate upperhand with two homeworlds, right?
I mean, dont homeworlds get certain bonuses?

Well, if they had two homeworlds, they'd have to be tweaked so their total starting max population is comparable to the other empires.
It would also be possible to make The Great Link a tiny rogue planet with hostile conditions, so the maximum population would be 5. That would prevent the Founders from actually building anything in that system (labor costs are 10 units per facility), so it would essentially be completely vulnerable. A simple food bonus would make sure the Founders have food without having any farms. Then the Jem'Hadar system could be comparable to any of the other home systems.

That's a cool idea, it certainly didn't appear there were many factories there!
What's the deal with the Vorta? They were also engineered by the Founders and handle all command and diplomacy. Will populations represent a mix of Jem Hadar and Vorta?

Quick way around the dominion "who are they" problem is have it a mixed race of founders, jemhdar and vorta. Since there more or less together in everyway its best just think of them all as the one power "dominion".

To be honest i don't see any problem with them having a slight advantage over others to begin with, makes for an interesting game. Though it could get troublesome in non-canon maps and they start right beside you

I agree fully with this. It's the only way I can think of.

I'd tend to agree, although their home system can contain both homeworlds much like the Romulus system.
Besides... if they are seperate systems, what happens when someone subjugates the Founder system? If it is so small, it's not very useful as a system, but is still of great importance to the Dominion, so....
