I been around and seen as well has heard a lot of things.. but Matress has officially made me OLD! LOL
I was giving him a hard time using a beat up version of a song from the doors.
He had no clue what I was talking about.. so i inquired if he knew them. reply was nope.
He does not evn know Led Zeppelin... and also lead me to believe he has no clue who the Beatles were.
i even tried Rolling Stones.. nope...
Kraftwerk nope..
Alas All is lost.... when the youth of today do not even know the Beatles..
the shame of it all!
Looks like we are truly heading into a Federation type world..

I dont really know the beatles either, as they're not really my cup of tea. The other bands you mentioned aren't too great either! ahem
Dont like the classic bands. More of a modern person.

Ok I'd hardly say any of those are my top top faves but some of the Beatles and the Stones stuff is fantastic. You ask how many 15 y/o have heard of the Manic Street Preachers - even non fans have to admit early manics was lyrically superb (Richey Edwards RIP).

Winterhawk, keep in mind, they're from Britain!
Although I dont like most 'old' music, I know of it. I know of it quite well, I had a few friends that listened to it nonstop, and I was in a band that only played it (before I moved. We didnt really get too far though)

It's been going downhill since back then
Led Zeppelin and the Stones not great, for shame.... FOR SHAAAAAMMMEEE!!!!!
Modern rock sucks, probably because it isn't rock, and don't get me on that Emo rubbish, chemical romance bleh
Manics were good, then the lead writer decided to off himself and there goes the lyrics, along with RadioHead.

Modern Rock is a thousand times better than your old 'rock'.
Emo Rock isnt good at all, though My Chemical Romance is good.

Name a modern Rock band?
That sentence along is an oxymoron
Chemical romance = Emo, come on it's plane to see

Come on, how mcuh Acid and Speed do you think they hit in order to come up with lyrics like that... insperational
Chemical romance get their influence from memeories of not being hugged enough by Father, nothing "insperational" in em

The Rolling Stones, as they exist now, are horrible It might be because they're clean(er), but... *shudder* Someone give Mick a cheese burger stat!!!
After listening to rock for about a decade now, I've slowly become more accostumed to more "classical" variety, particularly since modern rock bands produce covers of the older songs from The Doors and Pink Floyd for example.
However, with modern rock, I really prefer the more melodic sounds. Staind, Creed, Breaking Benjamin, Godsmack, Linkin Park, etc. I also really dig the male/female duality vocals of some bands. Evanescence's "Bring Me To Life" first made it mainstream (although it is really the only song of theirs to prominently feature both), and has led way for me to discover bands like Lacuna Coil (Italian band, should definitely check them out if you like goth-like rock or the male/female dual vocals). Speaking of "Bring Me To Life," the lead male vocal of the song (his name is Paul McCoy) is the lead singer of a band named 12 Stones - if you dig the vocals, you should check them out (I would argue that their first album is better than their second, though.)
Metallica seems to stradle the "classic" and "modern" genres. They're barely too new to be "classic" but too old to be "modern". As a result, they have a place in rock all of their own and rightfully so (if you completely ignore St. Anger's existence) as they are excellent musicians.
As for the emo genre... well... the only thing that comes in mind for me when I think of emo bands is a WoWism that has developed. In WoW, you could do different commands with a / in front of the argument. This included socials like /laugh and /point. It didn't take long for the unofficial /wrist emote jokes to start up.

WoW players annoy me greatly.
anyway,
if you like male/female vocals + melodic, I suggest "Set Fire to the Third Bar" by Snow Patrol.
Very good song.

This is al well and Good but when you think about it, who would want to go into battle against the Dominion or the Borg Listening to Godsmack?
Not me thats for sure! I'd be saying something like "Shields up" Computer start "Foghat - song Fool for the City" then as the fist shots are fired I would say. Computer Play Band Black Sabbath - song "I am Iron Man" then when my ship is beat up badly out of the Blue comes a fleet of Klingons who are Jamming to Edgar Winters Frankenstein! Or Perhaps Some Molley Hatchet Flirtin with Disaster!
Then as victory is ours I would crank up Queens We Are the Champions..
But then I'm old!
LOL..
Although I'm glad no one mentioned motorhead or other noise bands like that. I'm suprised that David Bowies song "Mr Tom" (not that actual name of the song" or even mentioned DEVO ( A staple for those of us who were into Dr. Who back in the day.

The Klingons OBVIOUSLY listen to original Drowning Pool when going into combat. I'm not even sure how there would be a debate about it. I'd set up a link to stream the song, but I can't find a direct link so this is the best I can do considering I'm at work.

Nice Mike ^
I don't think Drowning Pool would be something the Klingons are interested in Azh. I think the Klingons would listen to some Sabbath, probably War Pigs
And to all Classic Rock bashers: Guitar Hero has changed me. I used to not really be into classic rock, but then I played a few songs (Frankenstien, Freebird, Bark At The Moon, Godzilla-though I guess Blue Oyster Cult isn't that old) and now I'm hooked.
Go play it.....NOW!!!!
EDIT: It seems we listen to some of the same stuff Nemitor. Some darn good bands in there: Staind, Rise Against, Linkin Park and RHCP are among my all time favorite bands actually.
Also, for anyone who knows nothing about the Beatles, and/or wants to watch a really trippy movie (and really, who doesn't ), check out the movie "The Yellow Submarine". Really, this movie makes little to no sense, but it's so messed up that it's great!!! My second favorite movie of all time! Now it may be too hard to find, if so, check for an "orrent-tay" .

Raven Blue Oyster Cult came out in the mid 70's. I know them well excellent tunes! So they are "Old"
While I agree there are some newer bands that fit the bill many leave me with a headache... To much noise and not enough music.
LOL However thinking about it.. and going from TNG.. I can see the Enterprise listening to Enya as they battle.. LOL *Hides*
