New Contest Show Seeks Star Trek Fans

What is your ultimate Star Trek fantasy? The producers of a new reality show want to hear it, and may even fulfill it for you.
The Great American Dream Vote was recently picked up by ABC, and put on the production fast-track for broadcast beginning as early as February. The producers of that show contacted us because they are looking for "huge Star Trek fans" to participate in their contest.

According to Daily Variety (related Variety.com link), Dream Vote is a twist on the old Queen for a Day format, in which regular people see their dreams come true. A group of six to eight people will state their case to a studio audience, with each explaining his or her dream and why he or she deserves to have it fulfilled. Contestants will square off in head-to-head heats, with the studio audience eliminating the first few rounds of players.

At the end of each show, two or three finalists will be presented to viewers at home, who will be given a chance to vote on which person most deserves to have their dream realized. Results will be disclosed the following week. Five episodes have been ordered by the network so far.

The show is produced by Mike Fleiss, who created The Bachelor. Fleiss intends to keep Dream Vote light-hearted and won't let it become a "sobfest," according to Variety. "If it gets maudlin, it doesn't work," Fless said. "It can't be, 'Who Has the Biggest Tumor?'" Instead, contestants could be "a mother of quintuplets who dreams of having a proper backyard, to a 22-year-old bald guy who dreams of a life with hair."

And they want representation from the Star Trek community among their contestants. Publicity materials we received from the show state:

"Are you the biggest Star Trek fan ever? Do you eat, sleep and dream Vulcan? If so, we are looking for you…"

"All that's required is the ability to dream big and convince America to vote for you ... The Great American Dream Vote wants to hear your Star Trek dream!"

For more information or to apply to be a contestant on the show, contact Kim Kessler at realitytvcast@yahoo.com. Please write "Star Trek" in the subject line.

The producers will ask you for two digital photos of yourself — one close-up and one full-body — and you will be asked to write a brief summary of your dream, among other application requirements.

There is no particular deadline to apply, but the sooner you do, the better your chances of being selected to take part in the show.

Good luck!
