To prepare for a possible competition of Star Trek dreams I will want to see what your ideas for a Star Trek fantasy are. Tell me what you would have ABC and Paramount do for you. Why is your idea more deserving than the next guys? Have fun, be nasty or nice but make a compelling case. I will learn how to deal with your ideas by how you deal with each other’s. In the end you will see what I have submitted to ABC. We will see if I make the next cut.

I dream of a free legal license to use any Star Trek content I want for Star Trek: Supremacy. But, more importantly, I want to score with 7 of 9.

Why would your access to the Star Trek content be more compelling than say an episode staring solder that have returned home injured from Iraq?

(no, that is not what I just sent in but play hard ball as best you can)

Here we go.

TITLE = Alpha / Beta Quadrant.

This would be different. It would cover each major race, from a previous timeline. i.e. before TNG. It would show how each started small and grew into the empires that we know and love/hate. I would start with the Klingons, as they are one of the first Races to have contact with the Federation. We could see how the Great houses were formed, then grew or fell. We could see there development for the warbirds and cloaking, but up to a point only. The next segment would show the Romulans with the same growth aspect. Same with the Cardiassions and Ferengi. To tie them all in would be when they made first contact with each other. We could see the battle of Kittimer, The Revolts on Cardassia Prime and Romulus. Also when they first met the Federation but from thier perspective!

This would make a compelling storyline as well as provide excellent actual space battles between different races.

For Trek fans whom are not stuck only on Federation ships, personel and storylines. This could correct so much misunderstood canon gaps for gamers as well.

Keep it real. None of this fight this hour, then have a sexy love scene 7 minutes later. Raw and gritty (NOT GORE) compelling, entertainment.

I'm writing a stronger history of Romulus anyway, and plan to do so with the other majors.

Guest persons "1 show only" Devs, Moe, Myself, Skeeter, Azh, etc. And not all at once. Special Guests could be soldiers back from Iraq, but from all countries involved, not just Americans.

This is my submission. Not fully complete but as close as I can come to in a short time.

At a later place in the timeline we can see how the Borg developed as well as the Breen and Dominion.

Winterhawk...

I want to be on the show. A guest spot would be wonderful, as an engineer, or even as ANYTHING. Just Federation though (i wouldnt want to be a romulan, though I would take the spot if asked)

that would be... freaking... awesome. More so than you may believe.

---

maybe one day in the far far future, when someone creates a 'new trek' (like what they did with TNG) ill get in. Maybe...

I've yet to hear anything more compelling than me scoring with 7 of 9. Sans the full-on Borg gear, of course :-p.

Al Gore, formally the next president of the United States, has honed his global warming presentation to a very fine show by presenting it many times, working many related issues into his presentation and responding to feed back. What can I incorporate from what we have so far?

OK, to summarize:

Winterhawk7 has a script for an episode. This would be a timeline of sorts and perhaps like a documentary. A compelling reason to choose his proposal would be using wounded and recovering solders in the cast.

Nemitor_Atimen wishes to act in a Star Trek episode as a Federation officer.

Skeeter has a playboy fantasy.

So if the viewers were interested enough to vote for their choice why would they favor one over the other? The use of the wounded solders is clearly a powerful emotion button to push. The chance to have your 15 minutes is compelling emotionally. Sex will always peak interest. What other issues could we address? Could there be a story line of how the people of earth overcame global warming and this leads to the birth of the Federation? We play the wounded soldier card and the global warming card at the same time? Are there any other major hot button issue that could be tied into Star Trek, the birth of the Federation and a proposal? How would disease, hunger, war or scientific exploration play into our appeal to the voting public? How do we play the sex card in all this?

I'd do a totally different approach to all this. Why always dwell on the theoretical side which is known anyway (or not ;)). So I'd show it from the first person view of let's say a child in the 24th or even in the 22th century (year 2161) walking through this period of time, letting the viewer see the kid grow up, experience the effects of global warming if you wish, share some playboy fantasies (I can provide you with good pictures for that..hehe not really but ya know), have sex later on and end up as general_nemitor in the starfleet battling with janeway hand in hand against 2kilos of borg drones which they fight off quite easily with one finger according to voyager stats and specs of borg drone strength for example.

hm, don't know what rode me that I wrote this...

:)

That is a good idea. So we are talking about developing a script with social impact. This would be a coming of age story for a young protagonist when the world's culture also comes of age. The socially responsible angle would help flesh it out. Beside the wounded solders are there others we could aid by having our proposal win? Is there some other deserving group we could aid?
Can you think of any other ways to make it compelling enough to compete against someone else's script?

Can you think of any other things we could do related to the Star Trek that people would vote for in a competition of ideas? Is there some Star Trek connection that could be made to charitable work? The homeless, disaster victims or what?

keep in mind that the main viewer-age target range is about 9-16 years old kids so the social impact thing has to be thoroughly thought through roughly lol

anyway you can't just make a "Wonder Years" StarTrek-TV-Series-Mod (I mean you possibly could but don't ask me how exactly to do so and the impact could be low if it isn't made real good). But of course it fleshes it up and the wider the range on a tv series the better. People just wanna see that stuff, ppl from every age and every social background, it's the thing that we share all, the Heisenberg-uncertainty of what might come in the future, the feeling to be actually living through another period of time, another place where you can project your deeper wishes into and leave the shadows of real life behind (like drug-addict hippies do all the time on the park bench lol no just bad jokin here;)).

I'd say you come up with a sophisticated and a in many ways "thrilling" lifeline plot for your series which keeps the viewer glued to what all happened to the main guy (I mean just like Luke Skywalker in the SW films for example, just a little more "broadened out" to have more episodes to show).

That part with "sophisticated" and "thrilling/interesting" is actually your part to fill out. I'd put a lot of life experience in it, some humourous events (Star trek offers a lot here, considering those minor races and their sometimes funny interactions with each other).

really, I didn't intend to propose anything serious here but on the second look it might actually be "appealing stuff material"..

btw. I'd have the thing starting with a big (poor or rich) family on the outskirts of a big fed town/city (I mean little is known about growing up in a Star Trek city, at least I don't know how that looks apart from everything's fine there :D), but you may have picked up my former post's idea better than I myself in this post here, so just take out anything/any idea you need from this. unfortunately I don't have time to do further thinking on this but I'm sure you guys come up with something clever.

All your points are very good ones. The age range for the Star Trek franchise may play a big part in the viewers for this episode of Dream On, America. It should have some impact on what the audience would like to see from the dream proposals as you have said. Otherwise the ABC show this contest is to be on will be aimed at the reality TV audience. (Whatever that is) More of these viewers may expect we here are all guys living in our mother's basement. This is why I have taken proposals beyond what most think is the Star Trek audience.

BTW Back in the 1980s Star Trek, The Next Generation became the most popular dramatic series on US TV. It, of all the series, reached a broader audience.

That is where mine could be played in different ways.

1 Oil. It is said natural resources will likly run out within 20 to 25 years. Why does it have to happen here? Why not to the Cardiassions? In canon they ran out of raw materials and were forced to go a different route.

2 the Heavy Ozone radation we have that causes global warming. This would entice the Earths children to reject / revolt against the huge businesses that pushed it to happen sooner then nature intended. The college age men and women turn to science to save the planet. Big business enraged hires mercenaries to quell these students who protest peacefully ( rather like a Kent State deal ) which leads to WW3 and then to Cochrain ( a student who grew up and fulfilled the dream ) Florida parts of the U.K., Europe, China, Asia all under water. Earth quakes are everywhere as are other menaces such as hurricanes. all part of the story. Effecting all the small youth we know today. getting us to the above mentioned.

Borg - the computers and machines that the people who later become borg built gain concuiosnious (sp) in stead of revolting, they include the people creating the borg and the future menace they become.

Ferengi ( like Wall street, Enron, etc. ) the mighty gold pressed latinium drives a type of madness and makes them from a peaceful people to the greed mongers we know them as. the collapse of said businesses is the turning point. bringing chaos, and terror. Until it is placed under control by the first (to be Grand Nagus)

So With mine. so much can be added and improvised.

One could say the Romulans are like the Insurgents of the middle east. when finally rejected they are forced to flee to a new home and continue there ways. only this time fighting only each other until they get the idea that it is better to fight the enemy without then the enemy within. (which tha Tal take care of )

Thats the additions I would add.. but you could add even more. it is very open.

How much air-time does your show have to fill? That will, of course, impact the overall script. If there is going to be multiple seasons, I'd be down for watching a show that follows a child begining around "high school" or whatever goes for high school in the 24th centuary, through Starfleet Academy (this could be a couple seasons), and into their first assignment.

The whole high school angle would likely require heavy interaction with friends and relatives who may or may not serve in Starfleet themselves. Perhaps include some major plots that improve the character's development and might influence their decisions to the point where they are dead-set on joining Starfleet. Take them through the academy, perhaps even including some training assignments much like one of the DS9 episodes utilized to include some "real world" experience for the character.

The entire show would have a very drama-oriented basis, especially at the beginning as high school is, well, very fully of drama. This could be a good hook for teen/young adult audience. You could even use some cliche plots, such as a changling impersonating a student in the attempt to destroy a research center or something that happens to be near the high school or something. *shrugs*

As the character matures, the story can mature with him. Now instead of talking about how long it will be before Joe and Jane get back together (along with some relevant plot twists that actually impact the show in a meaningful way), the story can gradually concentrate more on the character and his difficulties in fulfilling his dreams and his percieved resonsibilities. Each plot twist becomes more and more serious as the character is starting to become directly involved instead of a passive witness.

If the series can last long enough, I'd want to see the progression all the way to a low command position, with perhaps the beginning of the last season involving a catastrophic accident that forces our main character to become Picard-like and assume command and finish the mission.

yep, btw. I actually liked the maverick "Blair"-type from the Wing Commander Series (I know a game and a film that sucked at last, but WC 1-4 was somewhat brilliant in my eyes). I don't know if any of you ever played that game but it had a dense main character story behind it that is rather rare to find now and well such a thing of similar in the st universe I'd definitely watch :)

In order to answer your question Azhdeen - the lack of instruction indicate you should propose a Star Trek dream that ABC would be able to fulfill. To win the competition a vote will be held with the other contestant's ideas.

Clearly almost everyone is thinking in terms of writing or at least appearing in an episode. There is no requirement for a script in the instructions. Why should your script idea win over others? Will the audience want to listen to you read the plot?

If you wanted to go to the playboy mention with 7 of 9, see above, I am not sure ABC could do that for you. You might have to settle for two or three of nine at motel 8. Do not let her get in your head.

There are some really good story line ideas here. Can anyone write these tails of the early days of the Federation as an epilogue for the game Birth of the Federation II? Who will take this on for the sake of the game? 8)

Does anyone have a good speaking voice so we could record a introduction to explain how things came to be? :P

In the beginning there was... and God said... and there was.... so let it be written....operaters are standing by....all these tools for one low price.. new and imporoved....

well I think what he meant with these question about is it all better than the others' work or not is that he needs just confirmation from our side on that one. Well I can't give him one but there's no point in thinking about what the others might have better or not just do your own job, do it good and leave the rest to the jury. Can't do anything wrong with that.

btw. one point that could be important if they actually wanna pick up the show is that if you do it like I said with the personal life path whatever of some guy in the 22th or 24th century (even with a whole family as background stuff) then you can develop multiple characters in that family, have the viewer screen out which one they like most after viewing some season 1 episodes or have a nice transition/cliff hanger meaning you could follow and change the main character guy for exactly one season, then the next family member (son, wife, whatever) gets into closer screening.
You also have to think about ABC and the production at all, there must be some buffers and extra side paths one could go if the series does not go so well or if the series really goes well then you have to have a future perspective about someone/something else to make the series stay alive.

If the whole package sounds sensible then mostly you won't get last place in the contest ;)

Thanks to all of you. These ideas are all helpful should I have to compete. They sure sound like a great game epilog if someone cares to write them down. I have prodded you for ideas and you have responded very well.

I have not and will not risk mansion of BOTF II to ABC or Paramount. The only connection to them is if someone from these organizations should read these public forums.

It is not yet time to put my idea out on a public forum. Hearing your ideas have helped me hone my own.

Today was the deadline for entries in the Dream On, America contest. A call came from Kim Kessler late in the day. She is with casting and is in charge of the Star Trek episode. She asked to talk over my proposal. We were interrupted by another call. It was late and we agreed to talk tomorrow when there was more time. I hate those ...to be continued cliffhangers episodes. This is a game that takes nerves of steel. You need to sound like this 8) While you feel like this :? trying not to scream like a little girl and pee your panties.

Kim at the casting company, http://www.kasstinginc.com/ , has passed the application on to the ABC producers. This is the shorter short list before the producers decide on the group to go into production with. Touch wood as you say in the UK. Knock on wood as we say here in the states. What do they say where you are?

I hope it is more than just luck. Let us also hope it turns out to be an honorable competition of ideas and not a chance to pock fun at Star Trek fans.

A sign from the gods? When this project began my home made PC died. I took it in stride and complete the application process on the dell backup. On the day the application is sent on to the producers my new power supple arrives. Plug it in, no fuss, no muss, it is up and running. A favorable omen from the gods? baQa' :P Glad it was just the power supply!
