I don't know much about this as the story is just breaking but according to the news a lot of Boston is shut down because suspicious things have been found in a hospital administration building, hanging from the bottom of an overpass, in a subway, and there have also been three others.

Update: The device found hanging from the overpass on I-93 had a computer keyboard in it with a photo of someone flicking off the authorities.
The news casters suspect that this could simply be a hoax or a test of the emergency services, perhaps in preparation for a true strike.

The statement says the devices are part of an outdoor marketing campaign in 10 cities. The campaign was in support of the animated television program "Aqua Teen Hunger Force."

that is very weird - and most distressing I don't doubt. People who obviously have far too much time on their hands for the wrong reasons.

Well of course they found it amusing - I did.
It was a freaking marketing campaign that had a poorly animated character giving you the bird. It was done in ten other cities, with no problems. Tampa, FL was one of the cities. I saw it there and thought it was hilarious (possibly because I'm a big fan of adult swim, and Aqua Teen).
I just think theres something in the water in boston that made the entire city alittle stupid.
"Ooh, a cartoon character is giving me the bird, it must be terrorists!!"

The only reason I go to Boston is because it's the only place with a) a major league baseball park in my area and b) the best night clubs in the area.
Everything else about Boston completely sucks. Seriously. There's no reason to go there. Driving through the city is nightmarish to the X degree. It is more convenient to park your car outside of the city and WALK everywhere. Seriously. The road layout looks like something a two year old would draw.
Boston is definitely... "unique" as a city.

baseball heh? I don't know I never liked the game really, maybe it's just not european stuff (besides wasn't it imported by some irish guys back in the 19th century?
anyway, you forgot harvard in your calculation. and when I was in new york, well I found that nightlife way more attractive than the one in boston and that one way more than the one in Washington lol. Okay and the road layout is from a mathematician's point of view with this ridiculous "city metric" .. funny!

Oh, the nightlife sucks in Boston compared to New York for example. But since Boston is one hour from me, and both New York and Montreal are six+ hours from me... that leave me SOL.
Having gone to Montreal multiple times, I would live in downtown Montreal before I live in any Boston suburb closer than where I live now. Montreal is easily one of the best cities I have ever stepped foot in. If the winters weren't so ridiculously cold, I might be living there already (I'm still thinking about moving there. Hurrah dual citizenship!)

Wake me up when the Bruins are considered "competitive".
How about them Celitcs, huh? In first place! (for the draft - GO C's!!)
By the way... I just re-read that CNN article. If those two guys get convicted of J-Walking, let alone of "intent to cause a panic", I will never ever ever ever live in Massachusetts.
Unfortunately for me, I will have to drive through Boston on Saturday on my way to Connecticut. Foxwoods and their Texas Hold'em poker room is calling my name this weekend. Time to take other people's money

Wow... This topic has changed a lot since I was here last... It went from a possible IED scare in Boston to a discussion about Nightlife in Boston and Major League Baseball.
Oh well... Given the anticlimatic (thankfully) result of the story I am glad things were changed up a bit.

Actually, if nerds are going to get into gambling, poker and blackjack are the games to play :p There are quite a few CS majors who play poker
I'm not so sure if I am going, though My friend (also a CS major) is not sure he can go. I'm not driving all the way through Mass to Connecticut solo.
