Am I the only one who prefers Armada 2 to Armada?

I found that it was smoother that 1, also I thought that the ships responded fast that on 1.

I found that the ships would be damaged too easily in Armada 2, but my main beef was with the extreme depth to the maps. You don't need to go up or down that much and you didn't see that kind of thing in the series'.

I'm glad Starcraft (+ Brood War) got the appropriate lovin'.. though what made it even better was a lot of the player-made maps & RPGs. And what Medics and others would say if you clicked on them repeatedly.

And TA.. and now Supreme Commander, which will single-handedly force me to upgrade sooner rather than later..

I have to leave out both just for the sake of being original though, right?

Anyone ever play Solar Winds I and II? Very first game I ever bought was Solar Winds I, and it was pretty good, they'd have to make my top list.

Star Control series gets points for making me laugh, but not top-5 list material. ODell Down Under gets points for distracting the hell out of me during Elementary School and being precursor to what the rest of my time in the educational system would resemble (games > grades), but still, not top 5 material..

X-COM UFO Defense was pretty sweet in its time, and original (sort of -- first one of its kind to be a success). And I think I'll give some love to strategy games..

1) Solar Winds
2) X-COM UFO Defense
3) Space Empires series (III-V)
4) Stars!
5) SubSpace / Continuum

Honorable Mention: Ev Nova for storyline. Inner Space for fooling a young Mike in to thinking he was actually battling real viruses inside his computer or some such thing. Mech Warrior / Cyberstorm franchise for being cool. Pax Imperia: Eminent Domain for being good for its time.

Edit: I know I totally gave first person shooters the shaft, but that's because I've never really liked any. Far Cry was close, so Alan Wake or Crytek may change my mind. :)

I'm a world champion Star Craft player. My super strat uses DTs. We should play some day.

If I were standing next to you, I would slap you upside the head. It is perhaps the WORST coded MMO ever made. EVER. The concept is alright, the story sucks, the dev support SUCKS miserably, and i dont know what you mean by 'communication' (ingame or outgame)

theres my rant.

SWG does everything WoW does, and more. Lots and lots more.

Yeah! Plus, its LEGAL to share over the internet. Strobel - we should do some coop. Seriously. Or get a bunch of people and play some battle stuff. FS2 is one of the greatest multiplayer games ever made. The only problem is, my friends cant get it to work, and I cant find any competitors.

Nemitor, 2 things:

1) Count me in to some FS2 action too
2) Any idea if SC works on Vista? And any good map DL sites still alive?

About MMO's though, they all suck. MUDs ftw. 8)

awesome! We should definately play some once i get my computer working.

SC works wonderfully on Vista, and there are some good map sites around. However, most of them are scenarios, and not maps (per se).

I'd totally be down for some FS2 co-op. We should grab the latest Freespace 2 SCP release, as well as all the graphics enhancements.

I've got a retail copy of FS1, and an OEM copy of FS2 that came with some variety of Athlon processor (or maybe it was even my old AMD 1.2ghz Thunderbird?) back in the day and now it absolutely refuses to install without seeing that particular processor. Annoying.

I always get a retail copy off a torrent guilt-free. I own it, sorta, I'm just reclaiming full property rights.. sorta.

Edit: Winterhawk, grab a torrent yourself! The rest of us are, heheh

the thing about FS2, is that LEGALLY you can get it via torrent. You dont have to buy it to make it legal. This is due to a line in the license agreement that says you can share the program legally!

from wikipedia.com

Quote:

(P2P) file distribution protocol. The protocol was originally designed and created by programmer Bram Cohen, and is now maintained by BitTorrent, Inc.

BitTorrent is a method of distributing large amounts of data widely without the original distributor incurring the whole of the corresponding costs of hardware, hosting and bandwidth resources. Instead of the distributor alone servicing each recipient, under BitTorrent the recipients each also supply data to newer recipients, thus significantly reducing the cost and burden on any given individual source as well as providing redundancy against system problems, and reducing dependence upon the original distributor.

Did you seriously say SWG is more solid and has better dev interaction than WoW?

SWG was my first MMO. What a piece of crap. Unless they recoded EVERY line of code, it would still be worse than "Hello World".

All I found were bugs. Lots and lots of them. Not to mention that I could solo Rancors in melee combat with a friggin stick. And no, I definitely wasn't Luke Skywalker. Maybe balance is over-rated?

BotF runs better now under XP, crashes and all, than SWG did 4 years ago when I first played it. In fact, BotF crashes less often than SWG did.

If SWG is finally a stable game with actual... you know... game balance, then that's one thing. But it took them 5+ years to figure it out. WoW got it on the first try and has only needed to make slight adjustments, not entire rewrites. I can count the WoW client crashes I've had on one hand and I played WoW for quadruple the amount of time that I played SWG. I would have to say that in the 6 months or so that I played SWG, the client (or server) crashed atleast 100+ times. And I wasn't exactly alone in my experience either. And considering the sheer amount of stress on WoW's servers with the several million players that play WoW... it is a minor miracle that WoW is as stable as it is.

Star Trek: Legacy would actually be a very good comparison to my SWG experience, except slightly more stable (yes, Legacy is more stable than SWG was) and a complete lack of gameplay balance in anything.

I have them, but there are four discs, and my upstream sucks. It would be much faster for you to torrent them ;).

I found the latest version of fs2_open:
