What do you think makes this forum worth comming back to?

Personally I think what helps it survive is the fact that it is a diverse form contiaining everything from casual gamers to hard-core fanatics to hard-core trekie fanatics to casual sci-fi watchers. In addition to that there is the ever growing international community.

I see it in different way. Why I choose to come on this forum? In my opinion this place is full of intelectual people open for discuss in vary topics.

Talk is conducted in polite manners, no swearwords, daily politics, nationalism and other stupid things... just constructive critics and suggestions! Closed together by appreciation for science fiction (Star Trek, Star Wars, Galactica etc.) Small cosmopolitan-utopian society esimated to die once pressure from real life become to hard for members....

Although forum counts 2279 members only 10-15 are active... without forum staff and "spiritus movens" Malvoisin this place would be graveyard!

One of the repeating themes of Star Trek is that humanity will evolve its social structure to survive in the future. Our ancestors survived not only because they were the best fighters but also because they knew when to cooperate. On federation star ships you see an improved sence of cooperation with divers crews working together as a team to achieve what seams impossible. This is what Gene Roddenberry assumed would be required for us to become a space fairing civilization or a federation of civilizations. This game would be impossible for one person. To me we are such a team. Each person contributes in his or her own way. Our current political leaders should take lessons from Star Trek.

I couldn't travel to some of the places you guys live without practicing my Canadian accent, so I'm not sure how much the international thing really helps.. We avoid the intractable political problems though by not concerning ourselves with them, and really we dont have a reason to worry about them. Our biggest debate might be over "Blood wine or Romulan ale?" :)

I give a lot of credit to the core members, too. They're an irreplaceable bedrock; the rest of can come and go but the heart of the community survives because they're still here when the rest of us get back. We don't often get out of line with each other, either; it's a rare day it seems when an admin has to throw water on a flame war.

I think it'll only get better here though. Example: looks like some of us might be playing some Freespace 2 soon, and we'll ALL one day play a good game of BOTF2. We also have the F@H team, that might grow one day. (Blatant plug: Fold for team 46574!!!!) The more we do outside the forum together, like those things, the stronger the community gets back on the forum. Oh, and some of HAVE to play some Supreme Commander...

Btw.. you know I've configured my clients way too many times when I've got the team number memorized, 46574..

I am so totally down for some multiplayer Supreme Commander (when my copy arrives). Nemitor and I are a few missions into the FS2 campaign, and anyone else is welcome to join in. Just add me to your MSN contact list.

When I first came here, This was about "THE Game" after a short time, I could see this forum evlove and grow.

no I'm not one of the brightest lightbulbs here (actually my light burnt out years ago) but the discussions are at times funny, at times serious, and once in a while sad.

While we all live in different areas of the globe, we are here, one large family. And like a family sometime we get mad at another member, but it goes away about as fast at it comes.

For many this is just a place where games are being made. For a small fraction (like myself) it is a nice escape from all the ca-ca life tosses at us in our so called "Normal" lives.

I like it here cause of all of you youngins. :D Yes I said youngins. I think I'm about the oldest one here! But I do'nt mind.

Here there are No borders, no nonsence government person acting stupid, and we are allowed to think outside the box, explorer new frontiers (really!)
and learn about how life should be.

Basicly, I just see it as a place of respect. for that is the strongest offered and accepted here.

Some of us are in groups outside of here as was posted above. Folding @ home, Nems and Strobels game.. and X-wars.. etc. thing is all who post and stick around grow into deep friendships, and those can last a lifetime!

:P

This effort would be a good model for solving global problems. They take global efforts.

Gene did make a mistake in the original series by naming the federation ships USS - Enterprise or USS - whatever. That was way retro and nationalistic.

If God intended for humans to fly in space she would have given us more money. Any transition to a space fairing culture will take global cooperation.

TOS was... well, it was a product of the Cold War.. How many times did Kirk go on a thinly veiled anti-communist rant, pro-American rant? :) Probably about every other time we were treated to a view of William Shatners chest. I remember that one time where he found this planet operating on some perverted version of the US constitution.. That was pretty weird.

Gene if I remember right had a big role early on in TNG, and the whole spirit of TNG is different than TOS, all about cooperation; they took on a social issue of some kind every week, and did it great. I loved TNG... if I had to judge a series as a whole then TNG would definitely be my favorite, but if I could pick and choose parts, DS9's last few seasons (Dominion War) rocked. And hey, it helps that Sisko became a freakin' god. Hard to beat that. ;)

I think that the atmosphere is good on the forum, thanks to you guys. Also this is place where we can talk about a new birth of the federation game. The game we all want, it's created here. It's been quit some time since the forum opened to what it is now. A lot has happened in that time. I want to thank you all for being here.

A big thanks to AFC for hosting this place too! If AFC disappeared, we'd all be rather homeless.

I'd say one of the biggest reason I come here is because of the engaging conversation where no one has to worry obout dealing with idiots that post stupid answers just to tick people off for no reason whether they know them or not.

Actually the one thing that makes this or any other forum worth comming back to is not the discussions, the annoying flamers, the moderators (although they do help), or even the site hosting the forum. It is the people in the forum that make it worth comming back to. Its just like it is with people in everyday life. You meet some people that sometimes drive you insane, make you think, ponder and contimplate sanity (both theirs and your own), make you cry, and sometimes make you cry from laughing so hard you can't contain it. You don't quite understand how or why but you keep at it and overtime bonds grow as the friendship develops. That is why I come to these forums.

Exactly, I'll freely admit to at some points thinking about not returning, especially after the scheduled demo release was put back. But then I really started to appreciate the work all the mods, devs and great members on here who promote such interesting discussions. I can safely say I'll be here for a long time!
