What incarnation of Adobe Photoshop would be best suited to this project?
-
Elements 4 or 5 or CS or C S2 or what?

I was shopping through CNET and found Adobe PhotoShope CS2 in more than one listing. Some download sites say it is as low as 54 US dollars but the one that CNET reviewed and rated was not less than 529 US. Is that right or are they not saying something about the version or components when there is a price variation like that?

As requested the Romulan Science Station, Romulan Tal'Shiar Experimental Laboratory:
And the with a skin:
I was looking for a 'blinded me with wired science' theme here.
I have spent a long time trying to learning the tools to do this and am ready for heavy sedation. Though I am disinclined to excellence I am persistent. I just need a small break. It should go a lot faster for the outposts and bases - for the glorious Romulan Star Empire.

You made that texture from scratch? Btw light green on the extenders aint too good as in doesnt match the other textures.
Still if you made the texture all on ur own, then u got cudos to you.

I spent about 10 minutes looking them over. I'm No modeler, but the detail is excellent. I would agree with skeet though on the light green color not blending that well.
If it is possable to bring it down about 3 shades thn you feel you would have an excellent stations there. Better then anything that was in the orig BOTF game (even though I did not see a station like this there) Now am I missing something or is there no obseratory on the upper area? OR should there even be one?
Overall I give it an A+ Very Excellent..

The texture on the extenders, I call them docking arms and equipment booms, is easy to fix. You guys are right. Given the level of detail they should not appear so day-glow and monotone. I had started out thinking they should be made to stand out so they were not lost in the rest of the detail. Some times you get tooooo close to the project and need someone to point out the obvious mistake. Thanks. I will fix that, file it and move on to the Outposts and Starbases. That level of detail, even with build copy rotate and past, takes a long time to generate so I need to move on to keep up the work flow. For the Glory of the Star Empire!

I did leave out a visible observatory. It was intentional. When one was built in it looked too much like a ship with a bridge to me. That is a good point but it just did not work for me.

I had a chance to look at the Corel product and it appears as though only one of the apps in the whole photo package really does the painting part I need. This app is called Elements 3 and it works kind of like GIMP. It would be a lot less to buy it than to get the whole package with photo album, photo red eye retouch ext. What is the name of the Adobe Photoshop application that does the GIMP like digital painting? Is it Elements 4 or 5 or CS or C S2 or what?

Put me down for the EARLY GORN CRUISER under minor races. I have the 3d nearly done but will not skin it until CBS airs the re-mastered original series for it. When I can see what the skin looks like I will know how to texture it.
In other news the Rom Outpost I is complete, Rom Outpost II is close to textured. The 3d of the Rom Starbase is done and work will go on from there. I will post all the Rom outposts and bases at one time when done.

Ooh WOW Kenneth! That is an amazing improvement on your earlier models! Well done!
Post most definitely updated with your pics - don't forget to send the models to Jig!
Oh, and I added in about the Gorn as well. I err...somehow missed your post.
Cool ship.

Thanks. It has been a long few months to get this far with the software tools. There is a lot I do not yet know - Still a padawan learner. U can put me down for the Advanced Gorn ship as well when you have the time. I want to finish those Rom Starbases first though.

sure. Remember the cardassian Terok'Nor resp. DS9 is also very sleek. I mean it's better for ships docking on the station if it's not too "compact" you know
anyway, looks cool!

That's a good point actually - DS9 had the pylons for ships to dock with - and the Romulan Starbase in BOTF had the "arms" as well.
I think it would make sense if some sort of extension was put somewhere on the station, to show that ships could dock with it somewhere. It's more for visual effect than anything else. It would also help to separate the Outpost and Starbase models even more.

Good point. The outposts, seen farther back than the bases - I think that is like bottom of page five, have a large prong. The Bases, above this page, I considered to be on a much more massive scale than the earlier outpost design. The points for docking on the bases I intended, but have not named, are located on the sheltered central inner surfaces of the bases' wings. These points appear so small because the base is so big. The base in the original game looked to me to not only be asymmetrical but small in comparison to the prongs. This design is in response to both of these flaws. I hope to see it scaled up to look immense next to ships.
