Hello all
I'm new on the forum, so excuse me if insult anyone by asking this or posting here.
If I'm just looking for a playable multi player sequel to botf where do I go?
1. The forums are really big and I think you need to be an insider to navigate them.
2. Home - News doesn't really give any information to outsiders either.
It looks like there's multiple projects and even more opinions about them, which is very confusing to me. When I originally found this page it was all about creating botf II. What is it now?
Hope I'll get an informative reply.

With a regards to a clear cut sequel to BOTF there are two main projects.
Mstrobels BOTF Supremacy and Sir P's et al Birth of the Empires game.
At the moment BOTE is further along especially in regards with Multiplayer i believe, though both are generally Alpha stages so the depth you may be looking for isn't there yet. Still they're great to look at and play and will only get better.
Regards Wolfe

They're in pre-alpha stages, sir. An 'alpha' product is feature complete, and neither of our games is at that point yet (certainly not mine). And yes, the forums are a bit cumbersome to navigate, which is why there's been talk in the staff room about a new site and content management system.

Skeeter, can we sticky a thread about this? Seems we get a new confused soul every couple weeks .

Hi TheShepherd, welcome to the site!
Sorry it took me so long to post a reply, I haven't been online much in the last few days coz I've been watching Stargate: Atlantis and Lost.
Anyways, here's a run-down of the various games:
Star Trek: Allegiance
Star Trek: Allegiance is a browser-based game that is being developed by Nemitor Atimen. Instead of downloading it and playing it on your computer, you will play it via your browser, so won't need to download anything big.
It's a little bit confusing to explain a browser-based game, but if you've ever played games such as X-Wars or Space4k, it will be similar to those. Allegiance is based on such a game called Solar Empire, but is completely rewritten to make it more fun, more playable, and most of all, more Trek.
The game won't have an AI nor will you be in control of an Empire - instead, each Planet in the game will be owned and run an individual player, and each player will be a member of an Empire.
The game hasn't been opened to the public yet and there are very few screenshots - but I have played a closed test of it myself, and I have to say it is extremely addictive.
Star Trek: Birth of the Empires (BotE)
BotE is a a game being developed by a group of Germans, led by SirPustekuchen. They started their project completely separate from us, but we are now supporting each other and translating BotE into English for them, as well as providing graphics etc. where needed.
BotE is a downloadable game that was intended from the ground up as a successor to BOTF. It will eventually be everything we expect from a BOTF game - and won't have the annoying memory leak either!
A demo of BotE available in the Downloads section. The demo is a pre-alpha game though, which means that it is NOT feature-complete, is NOT fully translated, and MAY contain bugs. It is the most complete of all of the games though.
Star Trek: New Beginnings
This is a game being made by BOTF modder extraordinaire Jigalypuff. Jigalypuff took it upon himself to create a BOTF2 game when the original programmer - GTurfey - simply disappeared - along with EVERYTHING he had apparently made.
However, due to the recent introduction of the other games, Jigalypuff scrapped his project and decided to create a completely different game - in fact it will be a completely different genre of game. He has released few details about this game, although he has mentioned that Bridge Commander may be a similar experience to what he is planning.
Star Trek: Supremacy
Supremacy is a game being created by MStrobel. Like BotE, Supremacy is intended as a successor to BOTF, and is an absolutely beautiful game. It is being based on many Vista technologies to make it as advanced as possible - but don't worry, it WILL work on XP.
You can download a demo of Supremacy in the link below. The demo is updated quite regularly, so check this link out often!
However, like BotE, Supremacy is also pre-alpha, and isn't as complete as BotE. You also need to have the .Net Version 3 platform installed for it to work.

Perhaps you should move this overview to the "Announcements"-topic in this forum too. I think many new members will look to this topic first, so they get a good overview about this site and all the different projects.

Eh? I chose the blue first but I changed it to green to make it EASIER to read - maybe it's just my monitor, but the green is definitely easier for me to read than the blue.
Oh, and I chose the colours based on the order they were in and their (Apparent) readability. You only got red Nem coz I did the games alphabetically and red is at the top of the list. I could always change it for you!
Oh well, at least another of my posts is officially important.

Green looked cool was readable too, i thought. But its mikes game and since it descibes to the masses his game he gets to ask for a diff colour so i did one for him.

Looks like I am fully caught up now after bein gone for a while. I knew that the game split into two different ones, Supremacy and BOTE but I was unaware that there were also two others. I can't wait until they are finnished so I can have some more good games to play.

I knew it was a good idea to hire those busty women to walk around wearing tight, low-cut "Star Trek: Supremacy" t-shirts .
