My favorite would have to be Enterprise. It was interesting to see what the Federation was like when it was still getting it's space legs. In addition to that it was fun to watch how things in other Treks got their starts, such as why the Klingons in Star Trek have smooth heads. Another entertaining thing about Enterprise was the Temperal Cold War and the attempts to destroy the Federation to killing off Humans before they could ever be developed enough to even start making an impact in the galaxy. Also, Archer was a good captain. Much better than the deflector dish solves all Janeway.

Star Trek Enterprise ranks for me as the most frustrating. It has a great concept, good actors and sets but the worst writers. I stopped watching out of frustration.

It was getting better at the end before it got cancelled.

That's exactly same order i'd have Iwulff...although Voyager and DS9 are pretty evenly matched in my point of view.

I loved DS9 because of the war. It was the most human of all the Treks - as Ringold said. It started off based on the death and destruction of Wolf 359 and the aftermath of Bajor's occupation. Then it went all happy as Bajor started to find its feet and the station grew in importance both militarily and economically. But then it went full-circle as the Cardassians pushed in, allied themselves with the Dominion, then went to war. It was a proper story and you wanted to watch.

Voyager had the storyline feel to a lesser extent than DS9, but it was still there - they were lost on the other side of the Galaxy, just trying to get home in one piece - and still with their sanity and morals in place. But Jneway knew that she would have to make sacrifices to do that, and I for one thought that her ability to break the Prime Directive so easily was actually one of her great strengths. They simply would not have survived on their own for so long without bending the rules where necessary to survive.

Enterprise was a good attempt, but it had something missing - it lacked direction and courage. It could have been so much more, but Paramount (As always) was too focussed on ratings. They forced through writer changes and believed the Temporal war arc would hook viewers. Yes, it made for good TV...but not good Trek. This one storyline killed off Enterprise in my mind. They should have focussed on the Romulan war - if they had done that, Enterprise would like be finishing through old age by now, not coz of premature production axing.

TNG simply didn't have that storyline feel to me. It was a series of unrelated but important events - tied up by the various (And extremely redeeming) story arcs such as Data. I also thought that Beverley was an extremely underused character. Gates McFadden is an amazing actress, but it wasn't until the season 4 episode "Remember Me" that they really started to use her.

As for TOS, I personally don't think much of it. Yes, it was the beginning of Trek. But that's it. It's old. The way I see things, it is actually holding Trek back now. They're on about Trek 11 being a Kirk story. All I can say is that I won't be watching it if that is the case. I simply don't care about Kirk anymore. Give me the future, not the past!

As if they didn't get the idea from Enterprise that you can't just copy-cat Star Wars with a prequel idea and instantly have a cash cow, now they're going to go bang their heads against a wall with a prequel movie..


Hey, speaking of that, what do you guys think of Nemisis? Honestly?

Brent Spinner was saying recently that after lackluster turnout for past ST movies they tried to have mass market appeal, they decided to make Nemisis for the fans and the fans only to try to get us to turn out in droves. I personally thought it was pretty sweet, but the turn out was pretty lousy.. I went to opening night and it was seriously myself, two of my friends, and one other older guy that'd randomly blurt out different things, and then cried when Data ate it and again when it was over. Spinner seemed to feel betrayed by the low turnout, but I dunno what the problem was.

I'll go see XI no matter what the plot is.. badge of Trek honor.. but if its a prequel or 90210 In Space then I'll just go alone and not make any friends suffer with me.. And hey, at least maybe it'll be better than saving the whales!!!
