What would you write as a brief epilog to introduce Birth of the Federation?
Has anyone already written one?
Can you do it in 100 words or less?
Could it be done like a mini Star Trek episode?

I already wrote one, but it's in german btw. it's a prolog I guess, an epilog would be an afterword on the scene..

Quite right, Malvoisin, an epilogue follows at the end (the opposite of a prologue or "foreword").

Perhaps an "Abstract"

From the birth of man to the journey to the stars. We follow the adventures of xxxx through journeys hard. They seek out knowlage and guidence and wisdom. To reach for the stars for it is their mission.

Space - The birth place of man. Since the age of technology man has since reached for the stars. Driven by a pasion for discovery and exploration and of course the endless serarch to the age old question "are we alone". Now the time has come. We have the means and we have the will. Let us journey to the stars and let us discover our dreams.

It's good but I don't think the word desperate belongs in that... That is something our search for extraterestrial life has ever been or ever will be. It was never desperate even in the Star Trek universe. Cochran, or whatever his name was that made the first warp jump was part of a group of scientists viewed as crackpots by the general population if I remember right. I think the best prolog would go something like.

"Throughout the history of man their have been a few brave souls that have dared to go beyond what is know and venture into the unknown frontiers. As technology progressed all other frontiers have been explored save one, space. Driven by a pasion to explore the unknown a few brave souls reaching out for the stars would set events into motion that would change the world forever and cause us all to realize that the journey to discovery has only just begun."

If not like this than I think it should be something that emphasizes that discovery is mostly done by those few brave enough to delve into the unknown and put their lives on the line for the sake of seeking out new things, whether new experiences, knowledge, or just for the sake of discovery itself.

"From the beginning, we strove for the unknown. From the beginning, welcomed the adventure of discovery and chanced the consequences to obtain it. Now, with the gates to the galaxy open to us, we, the bold, continue the exploration our forbearer began. May the wind be at our backs."

Do you think that's long enough?

Sound good and it is the correct length. You can not be afraid of the wind.

From the earlest known time, Man has looked to the sky and wondered what out there beyond the stars. Now we travel not only to our own planets, but to the stars themselves. Exploring space, making first contact with new life forms, But always with the question; " is there anything more"

Thus our journey begins, to seek out new life, to gain knowledge on how to better ourselves with technology to guide us. And with the hope that the Universe will live together in peace.
