I have the same problem as Malvoisin, Mike, except that I AM using IE7. The ONLY upload option is upload document. :(

Image

Additionally, I noticed something confusing with one of the other options. Under actions, there is an option called "Open with Windows Explorer Drag and drop files into this library."

I thought that perhaps this was the multi-upload option, so i tried it. A box came up asking me for my user name and password, which I entered. However, when I press enter, the box simply reloads - minus the info I have added - without taking me to a new page or anything.

I eventually gave up and clicked cancel...and then my computer opened up. If I then click and drag the audio files onto the screen, the annoying ActiveX bar comes up saying security blah blah blah and when I let it run the file starts playing in Quicktime. (Within IE)

Sometimes the site is slower than others... but it's usually pretty snappy. BTW, any time you delete something, be sure to check the Recycle Bin and purge the items from there.

I could never get the "Open in Windows Explorer" option to work on my system. Though that might be a Vista issue, or an issue with the firewall at work...

Weird...when I click Malvoisin's link, it tells me "Error - Access Denied" then asks me to enter my username and password - but it WON'T accept them! :?

And it doesn't hang either, it goes straight to that page. Perhaps all of these problems are Vista related as you said, Mike?

lol, no don't try my link. It's a link, that only works for me with my current permissions inside the BotE subsection.

you will get an error cause you lack the necessary permission there (yet :D)

just take IE, click on multiple upload and drink some coffee, it'll finish after a while :)

You obviously didn't see my other post, Mal - Multiple Upload is NOT an available option - and yes, I AM using IE7. :?

Glad the link isn't a bug or anything though. :)

"Upload multiple documents" shows up for me in IE7. I believe it requires an ActiveX control to work, so look for the info bar, Matress.

Note that if you upload any large files (more than a few megs), or a lot of smaller files at the same time, the operation *might* time out. If that happens, try uploading files in chunks of a dozen or so at a time. The HTTP protocol isn't so great for uploading files. That's not a shortcoming of SharePoint so much as it is a shortcoming of web applications in general. I would know, I've done enough web development.

You guys might want to look into the SharePoint Explorer Client. I'm gonna try it out now.

Yeah, I can upload it to the SharePoint site if it looks worthwhile.

I'd like to write something small into the wiki. Do I really need to textedit in html?
well not that it'd be any problem but I think there could be some sort of "new page generator" or anything like that cause the edit function reminds me a bit of good old notepad html times :D

There is no ActiveX message - I would've clicked it otherwise. I only encounter ActiveX messages when i do the stuff I mentioned in my earlier posts.

As for downloading this new program - you need to enter company details and stuff before you can download it. I'm trying to do so myself but I think it might be best if we actually sit down and enter the same info.

For company, we could just put BOTF2, and for employees...2303 forum members sound like a decent figure? :P

No, it should have a WYSIWYG editor. I think the only thing you need to remember is that to link to another topic, you put the topic names in double square brackets like this: [[Topic Name]]

ok, i found that link about html formatting help below and seems like you have to use your browser formatting tools, will try it.

Apparently, it only works in Internet Explorer. I guess I'd recommend using IE for any operations on SharePoint. IE7 works very well with it, and I like it better than FireFox.

...And yet I can't access the simple function of uploading multiple files with IE... :(

I installed Firefox just to see if it helped - and it didn't. I CANNOT load multiple files, I simply do not get the option to do so. I have to upload individual files each time. :(

Still, i'm definitely glad we have this site. It's something we should have set up a looong time ago.

*Edit - I just encountered an error message that may shed light on my problem.

I tried clicking on the "Edit in datasheet" option, - under "actions" when in a folder - and the following message was displayed:

Image

Anyone know what it means? All my ActiveX settings are set to enabled or prompt - but I am certainly not getting any messages asking me to allow ActiveX controls whilst on the site, and even if I turn them all on, I continue having the same problem, and only get a gold bar telling me to change my security settings back!

If it isn't anything to do with ActiveX, then it may be Office or the fact that I havent got that program we mentioned installed. I have Office 2000 on my computer. I could try installing Office 2007 (I have a 2 months' free trial on a disk somewhere) but my sister has some VERY important coursework so I can't risk changing Office in any way at the moment.

hm good question. office is installed on my uni comp (don't know which version) but that don't seem logical to me. It must be something different which triggers the multiple file choice. but again, such things are better looked up in the corresponding help forums of ms sharing point.

hm, "downgrade" IE to IE6 isn't possible I guess? (via software->windows setup?)

It's not an IE7 issue, because I use IE7 and it works fine for me.

now that's interesting.

any special settings you made (apart from the default i mean)?

browser-id = opera or IE? (you know this manual setting where you could let your browser act/identify as IE or Mozilla..)

Edit: I get only this when I click on the arrow to open up the submenu: <www.botf2.com>

An error has occurred with the data fetch. Please refresh the page and retry.
