I was trawling around on Google a few days ago and I came across a new MMO game called Infinity: The Quest For Earth.
It is a game that will be set in the future - a future where mankind has spread across the Galaxy, where mankind has forgotten the location of the original Earth, and where a terrible plague is slowly rendering the human race infertile. It is rumoured that the cure can only be found on Earth, and so the quest for Earth begins...
The game is still in development, and likely won't be out for well over a year - possibly longer.
...So people are probably wondering why I am bothering to make a fuss about it?
Take a look at the screenshots, then try asking me again.
Infinity Media
THAT'S why I am excited about this game. The screenshots are only early pictures, and so the game is likely to improve further in the future! 8O
I have signed up to the Infinity forums. I hope i'll see other people there as well!

It's going to be similar to BOTF2 in certain respects as well - it will be downloadable and there's gonna be lots of Planets...except several orders of magnitude higher than anything planned in BOTF. We are talking about BILLIONS of Planets! 8O
The game will obviously be played online, but the fact that the game will be downloaded will mean much less information will need to be sent over your modem.
I'm surprised by how few people have posted here though. I thought people would really go for this game. It's surprising and disappointing. Oh well, I guess it must be coz everyone is so engrossed in BOTF2.

If the gameplay matches the graphics, we've got an easy choice here.

I don't quite understand that comment. Less information than compared to what, other MMO's like EVE, WoW, or SWG? Probably not. If too many important decisions are handled by the client and not the server, that just leaves things open for hacks, cheats, and exploits.
I am somewhat concerned that a single person is programming an entire MMO. MMO's are some of the most complex programs ever created. Simply put, they are not one-man shows. As a result, my expecations for the gameplay are very low. But those are some sweet screenshots and it's pretty clear that there's some influences from EVE.

Okay , you gave Azh a sharp object to pop Matresses ballon? lol
Just kidding. I have checked out the game to a point. I'm impressed with it. Regardless if it is downloadable or stuck online, I'd play it.
We all know graphics can make anything look excellent. The real test will be in the actual play.
I can say for us though that our games ARE playable and exciting! Well for me, I'm addicated! * sees the statue of Liberity ahead of him jumps off his horse, falls to his knees, and as he punds his fists into the soft ocean sand yells *Damn You! Damn you all to hell** Oh sorry flash bask to planet of the Apes Marathon.~~~~~
so what if we do not have a Billion Planets. No one can touch our excellent Graphics, created by our most humble members!
lol
It does look like a fun game..
I'm hooked on our games, they are first and formost in my playtime!

Ha, not the intent, but a word of caution is definitely in order. Very very many personal game projects do not make it or are largely disappointing. This isn't because of the talent of the programmer(s) but rather the lack of available resources to fully devote to the project.
BotF is a rather simple game compared to a MMO and the programmers here are highly talented. For a better comparison, it's like our programmers are each building a shed or small house that is solid and effecient and the guy programming Infinity is trying to build a corporate office building by himself.
I could be wrong, but I expect great graphics with very sub-par, unfinished gameplay compared to other MMO's.

Well you won't need to constantly download images of Planets and things, will you Azhdeen?
I didn't actually realise it was going to be a downloadable game until a few days ago - I've got a thread on the Infinity forums Here and I was told on there that it was so.
I've never played any of those games so I can't compare it to them. I just imagined that a persistent Universe with billions of Planets was going to be rather heavy on your download limits.

I thought i'd bump this old thread and get people talking again. As a lot of new people have signed up to the forums since I made this thread, perhaps I might be able to get more people interested again. If you've not checked out Infinity before, try the links i've posted above - and prepare for your mind to be blown away.

I've gotta agree with Azh, and his house vs. office building analogy is pretty accurate. MMOs are notoriously difficult to develop, even with a team of experienced developers who have worked on MMOs before (listen to the guys at Perpetual). For a single developer to create a viable MMO would be nothing short of astonishing. However, the game engine and environment look pretty good, so he's got a pretty good chance of recruiting additional developers.

I'm resurrecting this old thread because I just came across some videos from Infinity. My god this game looks amazing, and development of the game has continued since I last posted here. These videos were posted a few months ago, and they're long videos, but have a look: Pre-Alpha Tech Demo April 2010 Part 1 (9+ minutes)Pre-Alpha Tech Demo April 2010 Part 2 (5+ minutes)Cityscape Demo - very Coruscant/Star Wars like!
