The last thing I decided to check upon the close of my spring break was Folding@Home's forum, and what a treat!

http://forum.folding-community.org/port ... c_id=18531

I just issued instructions to my two cmd-line clients to finish their WU's and not download others, they should both finish over night, so tomorrow I'll run this client.

It'll provide a significant boost in PPD for anyone with dual-core (or especially quad core -- they future proofed it according to what i've heard by optimizing for quad) CPU's, such as an Athlon64 X2, Core2Duo, or Pentium D's. It should also be easier to configure than our old-school method of hacking in two console clients to take care of both cores. Should be a typical windows install; Next - I Agree - Next - Next - Finish.

I'll report back once I turn in my first WU and warn if it's buggy as hell or stable.

CaptRingold's Verdict: ... Wait for the next version, guys. Slightly buggy, and a pain to get the window to go away. Doesn't work when run as a service (they're "working on that"), require the cmd line window to be up, which requires trickery to hide.

On the other hand, it looks like it'll double or triple my PPD (depending on which WU I get), so I'm putting up with it, but it's not for everyone.. at least, not this very early beta build.

But it'll help my PPD, and I don't mind it, so.. I'm doing it, on one computer at least.

It's been real buggy for me. :\

It'd get to 27% and crash the WU on me, every time. And, until the client gets out of beta-status, it's got strict 3 and 4 day WU time limits.. which makes it tight for even faster systems. :\

And for the moment, it runs sort of like a console client. No, precisely like a console client. When they say "early beta", my god, they mean it. :P

Hopefully in a month it should be sorted out.

But my job is just about done with you, Winterhawk. 364 more points, you'll be 5th, and that was my goal.

Oh! So you helped me up? Whew! lol I was freaking out that I moved up so darn fast! lol

Gee thanks a lot, i'm at 5th place now! and about 1/2 way through another 5000 WU. lol

I was thinking I hit the jackpot on points on a WU lol

Now to just pass Matress and I'll be happy! lol

Yeah, that was what my hinting about had been the past week or so. Set all my computers to your username, and folded away :P

I'd pull you all the way up to 2nd, but the gap is huge between 5th and 4th, and at least there at 5th you're in competition with several other members if I just leave it where you're at now.

I was getting some pretty nice ppd, at least twice, on the new SMP-friendly client, but like I said.. died part way through. Plus, all sorts of little bugs. Not worth it for now. :\

Well I went looking today but F@H was down. I'll try again later.

Hopefully they will get all the bugs worked out of it soon.
