Eek! It looks like I made a mistake when I uploaded the Oberth pic...which means the others are probably buggered. :(

Great...more work...

I'll sort it out when i've got time.

I love the lines on that Acmarian Warship. You have a good sense of form and that makes it interesting and sleek. Some times I lose that feel when I work too much on detail.

It could use a little higher poly count but that is my only suggestion. We can go up to 4,000 on the ships and it gives a less boxy look than the low poly count ships of the original BOTF. A saucer section of a Federation ship in the original game really shows the angels. If you jump up the number of polygons that will smooth out the appearance of the curved surfaces.

Yes. We could always use some more worker bees. (Or some of the old ones back) If you know someone please refer them here.

I am getting better at the ships but still have a way to go. Some I would like to redo but am not going back until I know there is time for it.

I think the higher poly looks best. It is a great ship.

When I upload the 270 x 225 image in .png to the Image Library section of SharePoint the SharePoint puts in a white backgournd in the thumbnail it shows. The file there is still .png. When I have downloaded the files again the background is still transparent.

As Kenneth siad, put the images together and you can see the changes more easily.

Image

*Forgive the low quality of the image, .gif's can only handle 256 colours!*

I'll add in the Warship once people have decided which one they want. I actually prefer the first one in all honesty - it looks smoother than the smoothed one! 8O

The reason i like the first one, is simply when textured i think it will look better, infact like BOTF cardassian cruiser which is similar in some ways was also "hard edged" and still looked good :)

Your choice though

Regards Wolfe

I am happy with the ship. Take the poly you like the best as it is your baby.

I am texturing in conjunction with Ultimate Unwrap 3D. It is next to impossible to get a clean detailed look without one of the unwrap programs to lay out your surfaces. If you need Ultimate Unwrap 3D just PM me with your email address. We can see about getting you a copy. - Or getting it for anyone else interested in building the fleet for the glory of the empire.

There are also some online guides to the process of texturing and otherwise using this program.

I thought I'd made another version for the Transport II, I wanted it to show traces of the I and III, but this time getting closer to the III. Of course, when I get to texture it I'll add some details to help notice the similarities.
Personally, I like this one better than the first attempt.

Let me know which one you'd prefer.

(BTW, when trippled the first model goes up to 4k polys, while this one is a bit over 2k. I don't know why the hell I'm going this high though, the Phobos is around 1k when trippled o.O)

I like them both, prefer the second and would be happy with either. The second seams to achive that transition look you are after.

Image

The issue about poly count for me is just as it relates to the final look. If you can make a great looking ship with a lower poly count - go with that. If your intenstion is a boxy sharp angle style than a lower poly count is the way to go. The limits of 4,000 for a moving ship and 6,500 for a fixed station is just so the video cards in gamers PCs can keep up with the pace of action.

If anyone needs a help getting a copy of Ultimate Unwrap 3D for texturing I can help. Send me a PM and include your email address.

Acamarian never had it so nice. That looks great. It is exciting to see the pace of ship building picking up. We have a ways to go but this is a great start. For the gloria of Acamaria!

I think it was Van Gough that said something to the effect that painters copy but great artist steal. I barrow elements from texture files from sites like this.

http://www.battleclinic.com/docks/dock.php?r=federation

When I use one of these elements I try to work it in and work it over so much that it becomes my own work. Even still if you start looking around these texture files you will see a lot of the same elements showing up in different peoples work. I see it as a Borg thing. We all network and use each others stuff.

Ooh...purdy. 8)

The Acamarians actually need two models, Zeleni - do you want this one to be the early or advanced model? It's your choice.

We have been trying to set up a Minor Race sub folder under ships in the SharePoint Image Library. There is currently an issue on SharePoint that is limiting our ability to make new folders. Mstrobel has a service request in. When that is resolved we can put the 270 x 225 png transparent background ship images in there for the minor races. Currently under ships there is only sub folders for the major races.

Thanks for feedback lads!

@Matress sign up this ship as early. I will add few parts to make advenced version (upgraded early)

@Kenneth it would be nice to have folder (sharepoint) only for textures (nacells,panels....) so we can share it :!:

Few textures got broken so new texturing is needed :(

Good idea. We can post some or all of textures as a pool of common images under textures in the shared documents.

In the mean time you can download the models with texture files from a number of online sites.

Do we need 270 x 225 png files for the minor race ships? I understand these images are so you can see what you select to build. Will we be building minor race ships or will they just be there when we find the minor race?

The SharePoint problem (with creating folders) appears to be resolved now.

Thanks.

Will we need the 270 x 225 png files for minor race ships in Supremacy? Will this be something you will need an image for so as to see as you select to build a minor race ship? Or are minor race ships just already there when you bump into the minor race? Will we only need the minor ship model and not the png file for your game?

There is now a subfolder in Image Library under Ships and Stations called Minor Races. Zeleni, you can move your Acamarian ship from Minor Race Structors over to Ships and Stations, Minor Races subfolder.

I have created a number of .png images and uploaded them to Sharepoint, Image Library, Ships and Station. These are for some game ready models we have in Shared Documents. They are models by Trashman but had not yet gotten their .png beauty shots. :P

I took the liberty Trash so if you want 2 redo them feel free.
