It's official!
The first-ever in-game screenshots and trailers are sw33t. It probably won't be original compared to the, well, original, since most of the dev's are long gone, but I'll be quite content with a graphical update and continuation of the storyline. IMHO, StarCraft has never successfully been really copied anyway.

Hooray!
Edit: Guess I'm behind the times; it's been announced, but these are the first-ever officially released images/videos. Sw33t none the less. "Hell, 'bout time" indeed.

Ditto.
I read somewhere they started development on it right after Warcraft 3: Frozen Thrown in 2003, so they've got 4 years work on it already. I don't know what the average is these days (a lot of FPS's have been gestating for longer), but that bodes well for a release sometime before the apocalypse Maybe another year? Less?
If anyone has a brother who has a friend who's dating somebody at Blizzard with an inside scoop, or otherwise hears anything interesting about SC2, feel free to share here. I don't go out of my way to follow games, but this release was big enough it was on all the tech sites.

Nice try but it is not up to our standards.
I was in a blizzard once if that counts for anything. It was no fun.

You guys better hope it doesn't come out anytime soon, or Supremacy will never get done .

What is this "Starcraft" thing? Isn't this a forum for BOTF2? I'm a BOTF fan through and through.
Nah seriously, that site looks AMAZING! Although I seriously haven't played Starcraft either. I've played Dungeon Seige though.

Overrated...crap.
Plays exactly the same as SC1...all they did was up hte grapships, they didn't change ANYTHING.
Battlecruisers are still small and fire one mesly laser every 2 seconds.
Unit scale still sucks.
Meh.

I'd be happy with a graphically updated version of SC1 .

It does look, at first glance, like we are updating more than they are. I wish I could spend some time learning a few tricks from their graphics people though.

im disappointed with the graphics though.
It looks like WoW Graphics just miniaturized and sci-fi, with that **** 'fake cartoon/3d' effect.
Annoys me greatly.
They should have gone ultra-realistic instead.
I would be happy with an enhanced version of SC with anti-hacks and a better version of B.Net. Damn script-kiddies annoy me greatly. At least, until they figure out I don't need hacks to win.
Muahahahaha.

The game is a long way from realease, so don't judge the graphics just yet.

They are rewriting BNet apparently for SC2, so that should allay part of your fears. As for the graphics one, like strobel said, it's not done yet and even if it were I liked the cartoonish look. Much better graphics had already been done in StarCraft's time, so I believe it was intentional to have that look.
I'm also happy with mostly a graphic update and a storyline continuation. Of course, some people that didn't like the original, they wont like this version, but I say don't screw with perfection. Armada 2 tried to improve upon Armada 1 with 3D and just made it all screwy. Millions bought and still play SC, so, stick to what works; even if just those who bought SC buy SC2, by todays standards it'll still be a blockbuster hit.
Plus, possibly, it could be moddable.

EDIT: I just watched the 21min or so gameplay trailer; I've got my $50 USD right here, Blizzard. Needs AI work more than balance work, and it's interesting we dont get to see what the graphics engine does when destroyed things fall on to the background, lol, and it's clear they havent developed the Zerg too well.. but still.
One massive complaint: The killed the dot!! Now it's a bloody Michael Angelo painted against the bloody map! Targeting the laser guide someplace inconspicuous was 80% of the battle of having a successful nuclear strike!

Completely agree there. Though I didn't usually have enough time in the game to use it. One of us was usually already dead by the time they were feasible

I have a friend who knows a designer, and from what I have read from the press releases, those graphics are almost the final ones. They have full multiplayer working for ALL races already.

What I allways hate in games is hte disparity between CGI animations and story and the actualy game.
In CGI the marines kill lots of Hydralisks and look like lean, mean fihgting machines in those power armors. Hell, seen the SC2 marine trailer? - that suit has it's own reactor!
Then you have the Battlecruiser/carrier - ships as big as a city that darken the sky and rain death and distruction. And in game they are small and feel weak.

Yeah, I know what you mean. When I first saw that Battlecruiser in the Brood War intro, I thought "damn, that mutha's much bigger than in the game!"

Well if the game is crap, the modding communities can still make it good .
I will definitly be checking this game out when they release a demo.
