Windows Task Manager reported something over 100%?

I've overclocked the hell out of a lot of CPUs/mobo's/RAM, and run F@H on all of it, but never seen Task Manager show +100%, and can't think of what would do it. F@H shouldn't be special; it's simply a 100% load, and compressing a file, resizing a picture, ripping a DVD, or playing a game would all yield the same 100% load. Of course, an OC'd chip at 100% load doesn't show 130% or whatnot, either. Can't use more cycles than what are available, so.. a software problem?

I don't know, but I'm equally leary to finger F@H, and unless there's instability beyond that, I don't know that'd it'd be a problem. But of course, nothing wrong with caution, either; I suppose on the other hand it could be a heat-related problem with something like a sensor on the motherboard, in which case, perhaps the life could indeed be extended by stopping F@H for lower average temps.

I've finally been given a decent work unit again! Had crappy units worth 206 points which take abut 3 days to do!

Now i'm back on the 500 pointers!

Well today was my last day with my works computer - i'll be with a different department when I go back to work and I won't have my own computer - or even my own desk. That unfortunately means I can no longer fold in work. :(

I'm still folding as ever at home though. I'm doing p3402 - a 4000 frame unit that is worth 206 points. 1211 frames done so far.

Moe; I saw the Wii in your sig, and reminds me of this:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=ljZOHnZNaBc

Tip: Maybe not suitable for viewing at work. :D

I figured I'd be folding again, but.. this has been an insane amount of time they've taken patching their SMP client. :? Disappointing, but I'll wait, it'll come eventually..

I didn't show the people in work but I watched it at home and loved it. :P

Personally I think the Wii is a bit of both of those women - but closer to the thin one. The Wii is fun in a serious way. Seriously. :P

...

I managed to Borg a computer in my new works office!

I've managed to get my own computer because someone else has moved to another department - so an extra machine folding should help combat our recent points tumble.

The bad news is that the IT guys found folding@home on my old computer - it apparently caused the computer to overload and badly freeze coz the computer only had a pathetic 256mb of RAM - and I didn't realise.

The computer was fixed - but folding@home was removed. Luckily the IT people didn't think of adding port 8080 to their firewall coz folding is working on my new machine - which incidentally has more RAM. :P

You could always try installing a second copy so it's using 100%, Raiden... :P

even with just 1 core its going twice as fast as old computer which was a athlon xp 3000+,

na i use the other half for encoding divx video, which on old computer took over 50 mins for a 45min file , now it takes only 20-25 mins to do the same file

22sec a frame for p2096_A21_agbnp_ambe core 7a, about 1 day for a 155 point unit, pretty good i think for 50% work of my processor

I'm doing p2417_Ribo_Cl - a 250 frame unit worth 500 points. 8)

...The down side is that it is currently taking me 18 minutes 53 seconds PER FRAME. :(

I've got a Pentium 540 Processor @ 3.21Ghz.

although until raiden metioned it, ive noticed that task manager says its doing 50%.... not skilled up enought with pc's to have 2 lots of folding running. even if thats possible!

It's theoretically possible to have EIGHT copies running - but you would need an oct-core processor to do it. Far as I know they don't exist yet - but you can get quad cores. :P

my core duo is a 6320, with is at 1.86ghz with 4mb of cache and overclocked it by 12.5%, processor can take alot more but my 667 kingston value ram memory dont like it if i overclock more than 12.5%

It's using 50% 'cause it's a dual-core chip like you guys said and the GUI client only utilizes 1 core. To use both cores you'll need to either thumb back through this thread to find how to install 2 command-line clients or google for a quick & easy guide. (Given the length of the thread.. google may be better :P )

It's really not too hard, but the best way of setting it up does involve a little registry fun & games, and batch files make controlling them pretty easy. Definitely not something I'd try to get my parents to do, though. Or a girlfriend, for that matter.

Well... unless she was a really cool girlfriend....
