I went looking for all the music to listen to it. I clicked all the links. There is nothing there! I do mean nothing. Did the music get moved to a different area?

I also have to admit, I do not read the news section. This is the third time I think I have actually read it since I first signed up. I'll make a stronger effort to read this more in the future.

It would be nice to have a running update of links for the music in one place. I am trying to do that for the vocal reading of game announcements in the general discussion area. The general discussion seams to have a wider readership.

I apologise for the problem with the link, guys, I honestly dont know why it is broke. It was definitely working when I posted it coz I tested it - and as of posting only 9 people had downloaded the music. :(

I am in work at the moment so unable to upload another copy. When I get home, I will upload it to a free file hoster again, then post the links. I will also make a new thread for the music as you suggested, Jig.

I will make it just like my shiplist thread so everyone has a clear idea of what has been done and what hasn't. Obviously I won't be able to make a full list straight off the bat, it will need input from people to suggest improvements and additions, so please read it and post your thoughts once it is done guys.

I could also do one for the voices...but we will need a script for that, which will take a LOT of work. Once it is written though, people could simply record themselves reading/acting out the script, and we could decide on the best ones then.

For sound recording and editing, I recommend the programs made by a company called NCH. They have free trial downloads of their programs - and whilst you can't use these programs past their trial date, contact me if you have any trouble with them Obviously I won't say any more because of legal reasons and forum rules though. :P

The programs can be found Here.

Recordpad and Wavepad are especially useful programs, although you may need to download some Windows updates if you want to use the text-to-speech facility of Wavepad. That's a useful function for making Borg voices, as I proved to Winterhawk a month or two ago on MSN. :P

You can find these updates and additional info Here.

I would recommend you check out that page even if you already have text-to-speech voices, coz the links might add even more voice types to your list.

Eric is welcome to post his music to the SharePoint site. I'd like to start consolidating all the files related to BotF2 on SharePoint. Eric, PM me with your e-mail address and desired display name if you'd like an account. The SharePoint site is located at http://www.botf2.com/

I tried uploading some of the music files, Mike...but I had problems. If the files are particularly large, (They were also .zip files - you warned me against them but I still tried so that might also be ther reason ) the page simply went to "page cannot be displayed".

The original music file that I uploaded as a test has disappeared as well... :?

No no, I know about that one. I mean I uploaded a NON-copyright track - one of Eric's - but that has disappeared. It's probably just the site going mad though.

I've posted in the other thread about the problems I have had uploading stuff, but I have managed to upload a few tracks and those that have managed to upload are working fine. :)

I guess we just need to persevere a bit, coz when it works, it works!

Well, stuff doesn't just disappear, but I may have accidentally deleted a non-copyrighted track thinking it was one of the copyrighted tracks you had sent me. My mistake.

Oh well, these things happen. I've had no more problems. (Still don't get the multiple upload option though! :P)

I have now uploaded all of the music that I have access to - including your Finale, Mike. :P

I have updated the names of the tracks to include the name of the author. However, I am unsure as to where the Romulans and <some> of the Klingon tracks actually came from. I have renamed these files so that they state unknown author. We can edit the names later when we find the author.

Guys, if you want to start downloading, the link to the music is Here.

Where did some of this music come from? I hadn't heard a lot of those Klingon tracks before, and they're very interesting.

BTW, Matress, your signature is such a bother...

that's right MoE, where did you keep those tracks the whole time from us?

hope davumaya shows up again and helps us clear the origin thing by checking if those files are made by him or if he doesn't know them.

Umm...I somehow missed your messages for two whole months... :?

The unknown Klingon tracks were given to me by Iwulff shortly before I became a moderator on the forums - I've had them for a VERY long time. I honestly can't remember where I got the Romulan track from though. There was a thread with music on it, but it was deleted when the old game ideas forum was culled. We should never have outright deleted those forums.

Is there still music that needs to be written, or has everything pretty much been taken care of? I'd be eager to try tackling a couple of themes.

An addendum to my previous post...I just found a thread I posted a few years ago in which I actually HAD written some music for this project...my memory is worse than I thought, because I have almost NO recollection of this whatsoever. Unfortunately the AOL account those files were stored on has been deleted and I have no backups of the files. However, I am more than willing (and quite eager) to compose any music that might still be needed. Has a main menu theme been written yet, and is there any race-specific or situation-specific music needed?

Also, the lone Romulan track on the share site was written by me - I recognized it immediately upon listening to it! Glad something survived the purge.

(btw...the email address attached to this forum account is no longer valid. How can I change it?)

How did you realise that we might be in need of music, Terak? Perchance was it the PM to you that I've had sitting in my outbox for the last TWO YEARS? :P

Welcome back mate, and we would definitely be pleased to accept any submissions that you have for the project.

At the moment, we have NO music for the Cardassians or Dominion. The Romulan track that you made is the only Romulan music we have, and as yet, there is no set format to what music we want.

BOTF never really had much in the way of music - there was a game select track, a general race-specific music track, and a battle music track. We don't know if the various games are going to follow the same pattern as it will be down to the individual programmers to decide, but it could easily be expanded upon - we could have a different track for each individual screen. That would increase the download size of the final game(s) and there is a question of fading in and out the music as well. There's no harm in making the music and giving the devs the choice of using it or not though.

This is the sort of thing we need then. Obviously this list is far from being definitive or exhaustive, though:

Diplomacy Screen Music
Empire Battle Music
Empire/Galactic Map Music
Empire Defeated Music
Game Credits
Game Intro Music
Game Lost Music
Game Won Music
Intel Screen Music
Planetary Music
Race Intro Music

We MAY also need 'jingles' for the game - short music tracks for special events, special messages, and so on. Plus there are the game sound effects, and the voices. But those are for other threads. We'll be glad for anything you can offer!

...

I'd update your profile for you...but even though i'm now an admin, Jig hasn't given me full admin powers. :(

You'll have to send a PM to Jigalypuff and ask him to update it for you.

Welcome back, Terak!

Yes, there is no official list of music, ships and monolog that is in or out of the games. In the end we are all making components that we hope will be chosen for use in one or more of the games.

When I recorded monolog for the games it was just a matter of listening to the original game and imagining what I would like to hear in a new game. We have more than one recording for some of the monolog and will have more than one ship model competing for the same spot as well.

Talk to the developers if you need more advice or just be creative. Record what you would like to hear and the devs may use it. Your work could even change the games as it is built in.

(Some people have made lists to organize the work but in the end each dev will chose for their own game. It is wonderful to have you on the team)

Yeah, send an email to Mike (MStrobel) and he will create an account for you.

Once youve got your account, you'll be able to add, edit, and delete files to your hearts content - and because you can set sharepoint to explorer view, you can multiple-upload files simply by clicking-and-dragging the files from your computer directly into the folders on sharepoint. 8) 8) 8)

There are some sites where you can load your MP3 files and link to them so we can listen to them here. I reference one of them in this thread
http://www.botfii.armadafleetcommand.co ... pic&t=1715

If you set the site to let other download we could then upload them to Sharepoint until you have access yourself.

If you are talking about monolog go into SharePoint to upload files take "Shared Documents" on the left followed by the "Sound Recordings" folder. Here open up the Credits for Recordings text file and add yourself in. We ID the person doing the recordings using initals at the end of the file name. Looking at the link above to my thread on recordings and the folders on SharePoint you can see where to add your monolog recordings. For the menu and introduction recordings I suggest putting them in the "General Game Voice Cues" folder. In this folder create your own subfolders as needed. Thanks again. I can not wait to hear your work.

There is a Music folder up above Sound Recordings that hold the tunes we have so far.

Kay, I've uploaded my first new song to SharePoint - music for the game's menus (I would imagine this playing upon loading the game, from the splash screen all the way through game setup until race selection). It's accessible under General Game Music.

I adapted this from something I was working on as a music add-on to TES 4: Oblivion, so it had sufficient epic quality for me to work with. :)

Next up I'll probably tackle some in-game music for the Cardassians or the Dominion. I also plan to re-do that Romulan piece I did two years ago now that I have better sound samples on my machine.

Ooh...very Age of Empires 2 with the background drums...a bit of Zelda with the violins and harp...orchestral just like the Federation would use and slightly remniscient of the original BOTF intro...

DEFINITELY good work. 8)

I've renamed the file for you Terak so it fits in with the naming convention of the other music files. (Main Menu_Terakrall.mp3)

The link for people to listen to (Right-click save target as):

TerakRall, Thanks for doing so much for the projects. The music is key and you have added so much -quality work. Welcome to the team and keep up the good work.

(sorry, we also had a member offering to do monolog at the same time and I got you confused with them. You knew what to do)
