This would act as another game resource. In order for Hospital Ships to have any value in the game, they to be affected by a resource value, and this is it.
HOSPITAL SHIP (a write-up description of how they work)
These vessels are considered starships in themselves, and have specific mission parameters. They are commonly deployed behind the front lines of various conflicts, wars and disaster zones. They often have simple, yet functional designs, with medium armaments and crews ranging from 100 to 250, a large proportion of which are Doctors, Nurses, triage medics and many other medical technicians and specialists, which would either be called upon for relief efforts during wartime, or any number of medical emergencies and sudden outbreaks on the innermost systems out to the most distant colonies.
Note: each empire has the ability to control 'Population Health' - aided by health centres and clinics (described later) that can be built in any system. This 'resource' only comes into action in times of crisis - when the system is attacked incurring casualties, when there is a global pandemic random event, or natural disaster. Now, Hospital ships have a default Population Health bonus that hovers around the 20% mark. They have the ability to supply and furnish Medical Centres with personnel and equipment, and in such a crisis, in a system that has a Medical centre in place, a potential of +45% population control can be in effect. (for a further explanation, see Medical Centres as a structure, described later).
Purpose / Special Abilities:
* Offers up to 20% Pop. Health per system - and that is for 1 Hospital Ship or 50 in a single system (it makes no difference)
* All ships (except Colony ships) have some level of Population Health capability - but it works the same as Hospital ships in respects to numbers. 1 Cruiser or 50 Cruisers have the same percentage output in a single system (this has to be in effect really, because if the percentages were accumulative, it would possible in some systems to prevent any population loss at all).
* With random event disasters, such as seismic activities and asteroid strikes etc, a warning will be given some turns before, stating that a potential disaster has been detected. This gives you time to race to the location (if you're in time) with a hospital ship to anticipate it.
* In systems where there is a Hospital ship as well as a mixture of starship types and a disaster strikes, command of the operation is passed over to the Hospital ship, and its Population Health bonus is activated. The percentage bonuses of the other ship types become redundant.
* The health percentage bonuses of other ship types, such as Cruisers and Destroyers etc are nominal, ranging in the 2 - 5% range, making Hospital ships have an important and relevant place in the fleet. Explorers are the best of the non-Hospital ship types, offering up to 7 and 8%.
SHIPLIST CHANGES
TRANSPORTS (renaming Troop Transports)
These are the common frequenters of the shipping lanes throughout regional as well as frontier space, moving personnel and supplies. They have a diverse and versatile designation, with swappable load-pods, as they are designed to operate as Freighters, Cargo ships, Utility vessels and Troop carriers alike.
Note: proposal of a name change here to general 'Transport', as the function now implies multiple fields. Transport deployments could be mission specific, deployed for either invasion, colonization, or the building of a station - and hence would be responsible for transporting multiple goods, hardware and weapons, as well as troops.
Purpose / Special Abilities:
* To make exploration and expansion a little more thought-provoking and meticulous.
* I suggest that a taskforce of three vessels are required for terraforming and colonization. 1). Colony Ship, for the personnel and the colonists themselves. 2) A Surveyor / Science vessel to carry out the planetary survey and terraforming. 3). A Transport to deliver the hardware and goods necessary to get the colony on its feet.
* It gets other peoples idea of a Freighter type role into the game, without the need of having another ship type - the Transport can do it all.
* All Klingon Transports are armed, but only Transport III's of the other races are combat-capable.
A NEW SHIP TYPE
SCOUT (new to the list)
This designation is attributed to some of the smaller cruisers whose task it is to scout and patrol the borders and sensitive regions for fleet movements and the military activity of rival powers. Such an example would be the Neutral Zones, DMZ's, and the general outlying perimteres of local space. Scouts can be specifically deployed to these regions from nearby Outposts and Starbases - and operate best alone. Scouts are so designated because their power consumption is not geared to weapons or shields (it is not a strong combat performer), but to Scan Power most critically, as well as Range and Fuel Economy. These are the Scouts main strengths, and sets it apart from other fleet deployment as a unique, but important component. Moving ahead of the fleet for early warning the Scout is master, and when regrouping with the fleet for combat scenarios they have the extra capability of discerning ship strengths and Orders (like the Surveyor in Botf 1).
Purpose / Special Abilities:
* Scan Power (in which field the Scout is expert) is not Sensor Range. Range signifies the outer limits a scan can reach, Scan Power signifies the accuracy and resolution of such scans - which is the premium ability of a Scout.
* Scouts are expensive, and quite high in maintenance. They are not designed for combat, for they do not have great weapons, shields, but they do have excellent manoeuvrability in combat, are best suited to an Evade order. On Scouting missions they operate best roaming alone in their stealth operations on the frontiers.
* The other key attribute of a Scout is its Raiding ability, which is the highest in the game, exceeding Destroyers. Able to scan and monitor enemy shipping lanes it can quickly seize trade route trafficking and their credits, effectively halting productivity in a system.
* Will have its own separate Orders list in combat, much like the old Strike Cruiser, which will give you another assault and attack option.
CHANGES TO THE SURVEYOR ROLE
SURVEYOR
The role of a Surveyor is that of a science/research vessel, whose primary deployment is the exploration and charting of new and unknown territories and star systems. Although other ship types such as various Cruisers and Explorers (the Galaxy Class being a prime example) can carry out these duties, a Surveyor is designed specially for planetary and stellar surveying, armed with only standard weaponry.
Purpose / Special Abilities:
* Gaining Research points through scanning and studying objects
* Is a prerequisite for the terraforming of worlds in tandem with Colony ships and Transports.
(I'll explain fully how Research and scanning works in a separate post)

Nice post, dafedz. Explanation of the new class is quite clear. I do have some questions about the list itself. For the feds, it now lists "surveyors, scouts and explorers". While I know they are a peacefull race, isn't that a bit too much exploration. What is now the difference between a surveyor and a scout? Or between the other races original science ships and their newly created 'scouts'?
Second, could you list which of the other races' ships would have the same functions as the feds'. Regarding Explorers, are the Cardassian Dreadnought, The Romulan Warbirds, Klingon Attack Cruisers and Dominion Battleships the same?

Dafedz made this post in the staff room, and we've been discussing it for a few days.
Basically, the Scout would be a kind of military science vessel - it has a similar scan power to that of the Surveyor, but its scanners are intended for purely military rather than research purposes. Instead of having biology labs, scientific probes, and ifeform scanners, the Scout is equipped with extra powerful short-range sensors, larger fuel supplies, and uber-efficient engines.
Surveyors are the equivalent of the old science vessels, but this time round they will actually do research. They will be able to commence scans new stellar phenomenae to generate research points, and they will be needed to "explore" a new system. Most of their crew is dedicated to research.
Instead of the old BOTF system where the moment you enter a system you know where every single planet and rock in the system is, you will first have to survey it with a surveyor first.
Only then will you be able to colonise it etc.
Explorers are basically a cross between a Scout and a Surveyor. They are actually better than Surveyors at research - but this is only because they are so much more advanced, and have a waaay higher crew complement.
This is offset by the fact that Explorers will only be available towards the end of the tech tree - chances are you will have scanned all the phenomena in the game by then, and the research points gained from doing so would barely be worth it by then.
In summary -
Surveyors: Highest-range ships due to their fuel efficiency. Best research capability until Explorers become available near end of the game. Necessary for exploring new systems. Designed for long-term missions in deep space without support.
Scouts: Highest scan strength, above average fuel efficiency, fast but poor combat performance due to weak weapons systems. Designed for long-term missions in deep space without support, works best alone rather than in groups.
Explorers: Gigantic multi-role ships with a high crew complement. More scientifically capable than Surveyors but only because they are more advanced, larger and have a greater crew complement. Only a small percentage of crew are actually dedicated to research though. Also have good combat performance but very expensive ships. Equally capable alone or in groups.

BREAKDOWN of TYPES
In BoTF you had the following ship types, that were unique to their form and identity in the game, and how they behaved (of course there were different sub-types, such as 'Raiders' and 'Escorts', but they were all beneath the umbrella of the Destroyer category)

* With random event disasters, such as seismic activities and asteroid strikes etc, a warning will be given some turns before, stating that a potential disaster has been detected. This gives you time to race to the location (if you're in time) with a hospital ship to anticipate it.
* In systems where there is a Hospital ship as well as a mixture of starship types and a disaster strikes, command of the operation is passed over to the Hospital ship, and its Population Health bonus is activated. The percentage bonuses of the other ship types become redundant. * The health percentage bonuses of other ship types, such as Cruisers and Destroyers etc are nominal, ranging in the 2 - 5% range, making Hospital ships have an important and relevant place in the fleet. Explorers are the best of the non-Hospital ship types, offering up to 7 and 8%.
SHIPLIST CHANGES
TRANSPORTS (renaming Troop Transports)
These are the common frequenters of the shipping lanes throughout regional as well as frontier space, moving personnel and supplies. They have a diverse and versatile designation, with swappable load-pods, as they are designed to operate as Freighters, Cargo ships, Utility vessels and Troop carriers alike.
Note: proposal of a name change here to general 'Transport', as the function now implies multiple fields. Transport deployments could be mission specific, deployed for either invasion, colonization, or the building of a station - and hence would be responsible for transporting multiple goods, hardware and weapons, as well as troops.
Purpose / Special Abilities:
* To make exploration and expansion a little more thought-provoking and meticulous.
* I suggest that a taskforce of three vessels are required for terraforming and colonization. 1). Colony Ship, for the personnel and the colonists themselves. 2) A Surveyor / Science vessel to carry out the planetary survey and terraforming. 3). A Transport to deliver the hardware and goods necessary to get the colony on its feet.
* It gets other peoples idea of a Freighter type role into the game, without the need of having another ship type - the Transport can do it all.
* All Klingon Transports are armed, but only Transport III's of the other races are combat-capable.
A NEW SHIP TYPE
SCOUT (new to the list)
This designation is attributed to some of the smaller cruisers whose task it is to scout and patrol the borders and sensitive regions for fleet movements and the military activity of rival powers. Such an example would be the Neutral Zones, DMZ's, and the general outlying perimteres of local space. Scouts can be specifically deployed to these regions from nearby Outposts and Starbases - and operate best alone. Scouts are so designated because their power consumption is not geared to weapons or shields (it is not a strong combat performer), but to Scan Power most critically, as well as Range and Fuel Economy. These are the Scouts main strengths, and sets it apart from other fleet deployment as a unique, but important component. Moving ahead of the fleet for early warning the Scout is master, and when regrouping with the fleet for combat scenarios they have the extra capability of discerning ship strengths and Orders (like the Surveyor in Botf 1).
Purpose / Special Abilities:
* Scan Power (in which field the Scout is expert) is not Sensor Range. Range signifies the outer limits a scan can reach, Scan Power signifies the accuracy and resolution of such scans - which is the premium ability of a Scout.
* Scouts are expensive, and quite high in maintenance. They are not designed for combat, for they do not have great weapons, shields, but they do have excellent manoeuvrability in combat, are best suited to an Evade order. On Scouting missions they operate best roaming alone in their stealth operations on the frontiers.
* The other key attribute of a Scout is its Raiding ability, which is the highest in the game, exceeding Destroyers. Able to scan and monitor enemy shipping lanes it can quickly seize trade route trafficking and their credits, effectively halting productivity in a system.
* Will have its own separate Orders list in combat, much like the old Strike Cruiser, which will give you another assault and attack option.
CHANGES TO THE SURVEYOR ROLE
SURVEYOR
The role of a Surveyor is that of a science/research vessel, whose primary deployment is the exploration and charting of new and unknown territories and star systems. Although other ship types such as various Cruisers and Explorers (the Galaxy Class being a prime example) can carry out these duties, a Surveyor is designed specially for planetary and stellar surveying, armed with only standard weaponry.
Purpose / Special Abilities:
* Gaining Research points through scanning and studying objects
* Is a prerequisite for the terraforming of worlds in tandem with Colony ships and Transports.
(I'll explain fully how Research and scanning works in a separate post)

I'm not sure of all these class names you have as many I have never heard of and am going to assume they come from fan-fic for now. I ask most respectfully that we use canon class names whenever possible so I don't get confused and we can all be on the same page.
I humbly request pics of all these ships because I have no idea about a plethora of these class names (never heard of them) and I don't wish to be confused when making suggestions.
I'm going to continue to review this list and if I have any other suggestions I'll let ya know

hey man, nice to see you over here, some nice models there. the reason for some non canon names is so the shiplist could get padded out, however if you wish to change a name in the shiplist to something canon feel free to say which one you would like changed to a canon name and either myself or one of the other admins will take a look at it, the shiplist is not set in stone and i prefer the use of canon names myself whenever possible.

My only concern about changes is that we retain the ship type.
As I understand it some games use the table of ship abilities for

The rest is up to the devs and admins. Class change is no issue for me.
There are a lot of good suggestions here. lets take it one or two at a time.
1) Is there a specific change suggestion in what we have for the Klingon
destroyers above? At this link and down the page is what I set into the
Destroyer line. Should we change this?

Thanks for the warm welcome folks . Please don't get me wrong, IN GAME I don't care what the ship names are but for developement purposes I would like to use canon names so everyone is on the same page. I agree we should all address each class individually, and decide on what models are to be used for each one. I also agree to an extent about retaining ship type. BUT if another type replaces the original ship in said role then I think we should address those as the arise. Now to your quesation Ken, as ya already know I have a plethora of ships, stations etc spanning all eras, with that being said in reguards to the Klingon scouts I was thinking ......
-Lets work one role at a time, Scout, destroyer etc. Let's try to have period appropriate ships for each ENT era (whenever possible) for the lowest tech 2100-2200. TOS era next level 2200-2270. TMP era 2270-2300 TNG and beyond for highest tech 2300 and up.
-Obviously not all races have ship examples for all eras but we can address those issues as they arise as we complete the shiplist.
-Minor Races: I was reading through some of the proposals, I would think it would be logical to use ones seen or mentioned on any of the Trek shows first, before creating new ones. Also I'm not sure if it's possible but within the minor races if they have more then one ship class I'd like to see them in game. Perhaps as there tech increases they may build more then one type of ship.
-In another thread someone made mention of arrays. I have these....

I like your idea about implementing all existing minor ships in game so far we have 145 minor races in our database and 90 of them are spacefaring.

Yes and clearly your understanding of Star Trek cannon is broader than my
own. Given your background, experience and library of models I would like
you to take the lead in organizing the major race ship library. Let us post
the changes to models here for review as we go through the list. If your
time is limited I can do the conversions of your online models and
uploading but I need guidance.
When Mstrobel gives you login to SharePoint you can directly add and
remove models as well. We can start then with the Klingon destroyers. What
do you suggest for the Klingon destroyer line I to IV? Are there models we
can keep? Are there models we can fix? Are there models we should
replace?

races. I currently have the Federation Cruiser V, Intrepid model in my ship
yard for a refit.
Matress_of_evil (MOE) is an admin, in charge of the ship list and a really
nice guy.

NIce to meet all of you. On a personal note I want to thank each and every one of ya because I have always loved BotF and wondered why it never received a sequel as some of the other Trek games have. It is because of your dedication that it may now come to fruition.

There are 4 slots to fill here. I suggest a ship from each era ENT,TOS,TMP,TNG
NOW......there are 6 Klingon designs shown on screen during the ENT series. I will post a pic with a brief overview of each ship to make their placement in the shiplist easier. AND they're done out of the way and we move on. They are as follows .....
G't'harra Cruiser
The G't'harra Cruiser was operated by the Klingons before the introduction of newer cruiser and battlecruiser hulls in the 22nd Century. The G't'harra was upgraded to disruptor technologies in 2125, replacing the pre-existing particle armament.

D5 Cruiser
This older Klingon warship saw its heyday during the 22nd Century. As advanced as any other cruiser of the day, the D5 was well equipped with multiple disruptor cannons. The design continued to serve well into the 23rd Century, albeit in a different role. In Service 2132

D5F Deuterium Tanker
The D5F Deuterium Tanker is the most common ship of the type operated by the Klingons. The design is fairly well armed for a tanker.

Raptor Heavy Scout
The Raptor Heavy Scout is a highly advanced Klingon scout ship designed for long-range exploration and probing missions. Such ships usually skulk on the fringes of known space in search of easy prey. In Service 2144

One of the first bird of prey hulls fielded by the Klingon Empire, this early design was used to demonstrate several new Klingon technologies, including the early disruptor. 1.) Destroyer I –Raptor, we have that model in that slot. You can download the rar file for it form SharePoint even without login. Take a look and see if you find it game ready. (Create a folder for it first as not all our rar files have the folder included. You can see them all better from the downloads at SharePoint / Shared Documents / 3D models / Klingon / K Destroyer I…)
2.) Destroyer II – Scorpion. I think this may be one class we made up. What I dumped into that slot was really your C-9A
Should we go with another of your models or make one up fresh?
3.) Destroyer III –Bloodaxe. This is what I put in that slot.
4.) Destroyer IV –Fireblade My best guess:

Kenneth the c9a is a Battleship so that's kinda out for a destroyer role. However since the Voodieh is a varient of the Negh'var we could replace it with the C-9A if everyone agrees

D-18 Maveq Class

In place of the Voodeih as HEAVY CRUISER II TECH 12
Choq'Batlh Class
As SURVEYOR II TECH 4

Mike... Well... um.. you have to understand that you're dealing with genuine tech-trek uber-geeks. I, too, instantly recognized the promellion cruiser, whether it was in these pics, those of the Trek Encyclopedia or in the DS9 episode. I recognised the Promellian Battlecruiser as well! Don't worry guys, you're in good company.

I'm not that fussed on the D-18 Maveq Class - it looks like a slimmed down version of the Scimitar - or a B'rel on drugs. *Something* just doesn't look right about the textures on it either, but I can't put my finger on what that something is.
The C-9A Kahless tIq vo' (Heart of Kahless) class battleship is wjust hat the Klingons ordered though - it's a battleship through and through. It almost looks real. Very good choice of model there.

I like the D-18. I think it's a nice, original design that doesn't look like two other Klingon ships mashed together (though I'm not saying that the others do).
