40 new members? Woah were definitely drawing out the lurkers with this new policy...

Personally Id remove any screenies left from the Gavin era. We dont want people getting confused over this especially now that the game development forums have been removed by jig. If those forums were still here people would at least be able to see what happened...

Im not gonna say anymore as Im writing this on my Wii as my sister is on the computer and this is getting annoying now...

it took you a while to write this down I noticed .. :)

anyway another reason for us to have a little extra-paranoia here is the fact how bethsoft's marketing departments dealt with the stg site and other fansites who continued to complain about them on and after the legacy "thing" (I'm getting a bit more careful here..;)). Well thinking about this, in their place they have to do something different now for the next game release in order to "tone down" ppl and fans (or better that group of fans constantly naggin around and causing drops in the sales numbers by scarin off potential "customers" with their unsueable comments) in the first place.

so what would you do? right, sueing a rather well-populated fanbase (devs will suffice most likely..) that really does something that's not really getting along with something they possess as right (assumingly, I don't know the exact terms of the license), so you would sue them and sue them to death so no other fan dares to open up his voice officially again and their sales field (which consist of rather un-experienced ten-to-thirteen years old teens) is clean of any annoying gamers who want good games (anyway what is the definition of good?)

besides, we should definitely rename this thread to Malvoisin's continuing nightmare tales...

I wasn't online for most of yesterday, had a family outing.

Oh, and i'm on the computer now, so I can type more.

I'm 21 actually, and I know of a couple of 40 year-olds on the forums as well. Some of us will never grow up. :P

Agreed, you started all this doom and gloom. I can't change it as I don't have moderator rights here though. Odd really since i'm supposed to be an ADMIN!

the stg got what it deserved, vic and co were not just critical of the game, they went way overboard on the forums as well, the ycalled for moderators to be removed, demanded devs get the sack (and they succeded in that btw) podcast after podcast slating not only this one game but the entire company. vic is an egomanical moron who does mot damage than good within the trek gameing community, i very much doubt bethsoft care about us over here, by the time these games will be done their licence will have expired anyway.
for more information on what i have wrote follow the links. but bear in mind, the guys who write this stuff do not like vic at all at all. but what is written is true, just a very biased slant on it.

omg 8O this sounds heavily like what's goin on between René v. bodisco and Daniel Räbinger over at the fedcon..

how could it all come to this anyway? and how did someone like vic get control over things and stg in particuliar anyway? were all sleeping sick :?: ;)

@MoE: I meant their customer target group is most likely teens not us here :) (unless you bought that game..shame on you!).

@jig on the expiring: maybe so, doubt however that no company will follow after them..

let's see if I can come up with another nightmare tonight ..

Do not assume that everyone is ten to twenty five years old here. It was found that a lot of the World War II flight simulation games were being played by a good number of old men that had flown in WWII. I would venture to say there is a good cross section. It likely goes back to those that were ST fans having watched the original series as kids.

lol did I say that? no, I meant only they target for that customer group cause they just pay for resp. preorder the game and care later ;)

WTF, those STG guys had some serious issues. That kind of thing is just unnecessary. Nobody put a gun to their head and made them play the game. If they hate the developers so much, they should shut up and make their own game. It's not as easy as they think...

oh, and lol at all the lurkers forced into the open

I guess they somehow knew that and didn't try ;)

btw. I had a dream....

no not really, but speaking of efficiency, the most alike way to put us into serious troubles is someone big (preferably a game company with a conveniently fitting game license) filing an official complaint at the licenser against us. Oh I can virtually see us getting kicked out in the open while this place burns to hell

to the lurkers let me count 9+40+35=... aw, can someone..plz? no, 84 is quite something and I always thought nobody watched us here (besides BB or BS..)

I've gotta admit, the flood of new users is a welcome change, as it shows that there's still a lot of new interest in the project :).

I've decided to proceed with a redesign of Supremacy on a purely experimental level. I figure I'll give it a month or so and see if I like where it's going, at which point I'll either abandon the changes or start merging them into the primary code base.

Before someone flips out, I should clarify that the changes only affect the graphical client, and not the core game engine. If I go the original content route, I'll need to design a more "generic" UI. While I'm at it, I want to come up with a more flexible screen manager with floating/dockable panels and other slick stuff. While Supremacy's UI certainly looks nice, it has unfortunately become something of a ball and chain--I keep coming up with cool new ideas for things that I hadn't considered in the original design, and often they either can't be easily implemented, or I would have to implement them separately for each screen, etc. A redesign of the UI subsystem is going to need to happen sooner or later, and sooner is usually better ;).

Anyhoo, even if I redesign the UI system, I can still keep a lot of the code for the individual screens, and self-contained components like the galaxy grid can be plugged right in without any changes, so it's not as drastic as it sounds 8).

How adaptable is the code say later on you want to Mod in another 'selection screen' ala in the terms of intel or reasearch as seen in the original BOTF.

At present, adding a screen is a simple enough matter, but it has to be done within the source code. There's not currently any way of implementing "add-in" screens externally, either via scripts or plugin modules. One of the new ideas I've been tossing around involves spending a lot of time redesigning the client to make it more extensible, borrowing some ideas from the "smart client" concept in business applications.

I should add that the sort of extensibility that I'd like to have is a lot of extra work, and it's one of the reasons I want to recruit additional developers.

This sounds like what I am trying to do with models and modelers. I would like to be done before the code. :?

Well, the 3D tactical combat component is a long ways off, and you've been diligently organizing quite a model archive for us, so I'd say you're doing just fine :). If I decide to rebuild Supremacy into an original content game, then I'm going to need more people like you in the community to step forward and help keep the Supremacy/BotF2 content organized, as I would hopefully be spending a lot more time on code.

With Zeleni coming up with some plug-ins to convert models to 3DS, downloading and bashing models and with the help of new modelers coming online I am optimistic that we can meet your needs. The timeline for models has gone from a decade or more to I hope under a year.

Finishing the models would allow me to move into other jobs

btw. I thought I may have a shot with google (terms just: fan games copyright infringement) and there is actually quite a comprehensive site with some deeper infos (at companies like bandai for example) though I must say this takes all place in some higher-valued market than tbs games in the ST-Universe..

look here for the text which basically supplements what I already did say here and sums it up therefore: http://www.onrpg.com/boards/3837.html

zach seems to have forgotten us ;) anyway nothing can hide forever so here it is: http://stgu.com/startrekforum/showthread.php?s=2183cda5bedb9c7102c440ae824d9994&t=9956

Interesting thing they have an interview scheduled with 4Jstudios, the developers (similar to Maddoc at Legacy) of STC, so if zach asks the "right" questions we soon might have a half-way official statement towards us (not that I would recommend asking directly, more "hypothetically if we'd exist that way" ;)).

so, movement admirals which allow for moving across half the map in one turn? good for long range attacks?? my, that has nothin to do with canon star trek (halfway 'cross the map takes time no matter how brainy the admiral sits in his chair at home lol), this is more panzer general 3

the stupid thing is, with our editors, one can relatively easily mod bote into such a "game" by just adding the appropriate buildings and ship stats which replace those admirals in that case..

I'm not saying you don't have a point. Personally I'd love to see a diplomatic option in the game. Hell, I'd give vital parts of my anatomy for a BOTF2 but I think we need to accept that this game isn't quite that.

new in-game videos of ST:Conquest. hm, the question is if that top view is the only one in combat, which btw. seems kinda swift..

Hmm...looks similar to a game on the PS2 a friend showed me a couple of weeks ago. I can't remember what the game was called though.

It looks more like Armada than anything else. That's not a bad thing. :)

omg, as I imagined, the first reviews by experienced gamers are .. well, read yourself:
http://bbs.stardestroyer.net/viewtopic.php?t=116046

and if you got some time and wanna read about what interplay did with Starfleet Academy and Klingon Academy years ago (hilarious&stupid..a wonder the game was in fact not that bad, they let people work on a 3d engine with no source, i.e. they just binary-hacked and modded an engine without knowing what to do, unbelievable..) then read here:

no, don't do that. those guys will notice if they really want to search for a botf2 (in fact they just have to type botf2 in google search to get here quickly).
No remarks from us about us on such private review sites. deadly poison in the end for us if their lawyers pick that up and make us responsible for bad reviews and bad resales..

Good intersting read about KA and Interplay, I thought they were bankrupt, but apparently not, still going after selling off a lot of its intellectual properties (like, Fallout to Bestheda, lets hope they dont muck up that one)

Conquest just seems like a reuse of Legacy's assets for a quick buck, imo.
