At least spock/lenord nimoy will be back.
Tho i am guessing if he is in and playing spock then i have a feeling at the start it has him talking about his past to someone in the film and the film begins with flashbacks to the academy days.

Anton Yelchin, was he the guy that poisoned that KGB defector in London? They all look the same to me.

lol something tells me that you are more of ST fan to look pass him to enjoy the movie "IF" it is well put togather, but I have to agree he is a scary looking guy!!! My wife she is not much of a fan of ST. she even questioned him playing the part.
here is some more rumored people playing parts:
Tom Cruse : Christpher Pike
Matt Damon: James T Kirk
Gary Sinise : Dr. McCoy
James McAvoy : Mr. Scott
Daniel Dae Kim : Mr. Sulu

I dont think mccoy will be in the film mainly because its set at starfleet academy which mccoy wasnt there he was already in starfleet while kirk was at the academy. Since in the show mccoy was much much older than than kirk/spock etc.

maybe he was teaching or visited a friend there. An excuse to get him there could surely be easily found..

I dont think it will be in the academy or really to much inside, because Spock was an officer on board when Cpt. April was in command so that puts him at least 10 to 5 years out of starfleet before Kirk.

This guy's gonna make an excellent Spok. He even *looks* like a young lenord nimoy, IMHO.
cruise as pike? Damon as kirk? Hrm... Don't know if I like that.
Zoe Saldana is hot. But how good is her acting?
I know Daniel Dae Kim can act. He's a good choice... Though his physique is different than what's-his-name.
I don't really know the others.
Hrm... I'm kinda looking forward to it, now. Thanks, guys!

Why oh why tho couldnt they have just did a ds9 movie or voyager movie. They ruined my plans. 1st trek movies = tos, 2nd set is tng, 3rd set is ds9 4th set is voy and skip ent lol.
About spock he probably went to the academy to teach perhaps? While kirk was there i duno.

I agree Skeet - as far as I care, Kirk is dead. They're ALL dead. Forget about TOS. They may have started it all, but we've had enough films about them and now we've moved on. We've never had anything about their early years, but that doesn't mean we want to find that out!
A DS9 or Voyager film would've been great. I would have even been happy with an Enterprise film - if it covered the Romulan war. But the fact of the matter is that once again, the people behind Trek have gone off the rails and are ignoring the fans. That's precisely what they did with Enteprise and look what happened then! Trek 11 is going to flop, and it's going to be the ultimate death of Trek.
...Don't get me wrong, I'm still going to watch it; I just reserve the right to hate it until they change the storyline - and the stupid release date.

Trek isnt enjoyed by the masses. Being known as a trek fan gets you labeled negatively in the US (at least if you're younger). A few people I know (in both states that I have been in the last two years) hate trek just because its trek. They have never watched an episode, they don't know anything about it, they just illogically hate it.
Therefore, the young people with money (lots and lots of money) will not be willing to go see it. Even if they want to, most won't go due to being afraid of 'being seen'.
I believe that unless they somehow have a crazy and genius marketing plan that can get the general public engaged, they're going to have problems.
--
for the record, I will be seeing it opening night.

Maybe thats why there getting tom cruise etc in the film to make trek cool so ppl will go see it without been slashed on for seeing it.
Btw does anyone else have a strange feeling that perhaps if this film does well (doubt it) that they will take the film and subject as a success and turn that era into a series and go from there? I mean they did Ent, now there doing between ent and tos in the movie so perhaps there going to use here to base a new series off if the film does well.
As babylon 5 are kinda doing that by doing a straight to dvd film that just came out this year a few months ago and if sales do well a tv series might be picked up from it. So kinda woundering if same is said for this trek movie.

The funny thing is that's another reason why I already hate Trek 11. Trek isn't about uber-famous actors just performing yet another program or film.
Trek is a story; it's a vision of the future. It isn't always pretty, and it certainly isn't just about beautiful people. But it represents hope - that there is *something* out there, something that will bring out the good of the human race and will ultimately put an end to all the horrors that are in the world today. Unfortunately Hollywood only sees money - but Hollywood also does ad campaigns. Maybe you're right Skeet, and this is what Trek needs...but I still want a new storyline, i'm not budging on that point.

I will have to see the film before I can decide if I like it or not. I did not watch the new Battle Star Galactic when it first came out because I was so prejudiced by a bad tast from the original series. This film could be good bad or mediocre.
Normally the holiday periods in the US are considered peak for block buster movie releases. Many people are off work and school from Christmas to New Years and there will be a number of big box office films in that time slot. That time slot for release means they hope it will be big. We will see.

To be honest i much prefer the old bsg than the new, its just cooler to be retro i think and i liked the space fights and old cylons they looked more menacing then. But now we just get stupid cgi ones and human cylons.
Sry for going off topic here, just had to say this.

fully seconded.
those old vipers coming out of that tube kinda thing at launch and those fabulous special effects (given the late 70s ) were just amazing as kid for me (and still are but more in retro thinking like you said).
on the topic, well I want a good story, the acting is kinda second-important for me. so let's hope for a good new "ground-base" for further ST series and inspiration, everything else stays behind IMO.

I liked a lot of shows as a child that I laugh at now. Sometimes the memory of awe as a child does not match the reality we perceive as an adult.
They will need a plot above and beyond most of the ST movies to appeal to the general audience they appear to be courting. I wish them luck. We will see.

The actress is pregnant and due this coming March. In stead of her we could have Tom Cruise as Ferengi or Michel Jackson as Nurse Chapel.

Lol I grew up with the original BSG at the same time as Trek. Thanks god for reruns.
I loved the old BSG - ok, it was definitely retro, and some people say it borrowed heavily from Star Wars, (Although I heard BSG was actually filmed first) but the idea of a fleet of ships trying to find a new home...that's not really been done before.
Add in the (Slight) religion aspect and the special effects, who wouldn't like it?
I actually saw the new BSG film the day before yesterday. My new BSG virginity is gone, and i'm glad I lost it. Great movie, and awesome special effects.

I humbly disagree!
In order to place on my list of best movies of all time, it needs a massive battle scene.
An epic one, with thousands of ships flying and destroying and phasering with complete utter awesomeness.
If it doesnt have massive chaos and destruction in ship destruction form, I will be disappointed
