What I saw was a dvd I lent from a friend - so sorry, Paddy, I can't give you the link. :(

It was a 2hr 55 min film with the Cylons nuking the planets, the new president, and the creation of the rag-tag fleet. I don't imagine that there was anything before that... :?

*Edit - I just googled the "film" and Amazon have the mini-series for sale - and it has the same box as the one that I watched. It must've been the mini-series that I saw. It's only £4.98 AND it's in stock...

The new film is a 2hr. segment telling the story of the BattleStar Pegasus before it encounters Galactica. This will air before release of the final series.

To answer the question of if this movie is a big hit they will come out with a new throw-back TV show. It is highly unlikely the high grade actors they have rumored for this movie would commit to going to the TV screen. And Star Trek has always had one or two well known actors in the movies. Even Patrick Stewart had a very successful big screen career before Star Trek. Along with Kristy Ally, Christian Slater. Wil Wheaton had a good start in the Big Screens with “Stand by Meâ€￾ but he has fallen from the face of the planet since Star Trek.

DS9 will never see the light of the big screen :x reason why it the story line is not marketable to the movie theaters unless they redid the Dominion Wars.

If anyone remembers Star trek the motion picture? That is why you don’t make and Star Trek movie about exploration.

All we need is another First Contact (with a massive space battle), and all will be well.

I know I don't drop by much, buut..

I've been saying since almost right after What You Leave Behind that with such wide swaths of the Federation literally devastated, like post-WW2 Western Europe except for most of the entire Alpha and Beta Quadrants, that Star Trek could enter the new era with an enlightened, TNG-style crew in a glorious ship but with a mission that primarily deals with the chaos and suffering that results.

Pirates. Disasters. Opportunistic small races expanding power.

Given that the Federation was massive, it could easily have an exploration aspect heavily involved -- anybody ever read the Star Trek New Earth books? Like that, just post DW.

And, because our Captain would of course be some sort of highly respected figure, he could be sent in to the newly-reopened Gamma Quadrant to explore that bold new area.

Most of that could be done in a series or a movie to varying degrees. Make sure the captain gets his share of "action", both in combat and in the Captains Quarters, and whoola, mass appeal.

But, what do I know, I'm just a fan that mourns a franchise in a coma. :\

Oh, and btw, I thought all that long before BSG returned to TV. It just makes sense. BSG just saw the same cultural yearning, and fulfilled its wants.
