The patches for BOTF are available in the downloads section of the main Armadafleetcommand forums, which is: http://www.armadafleetcommand.com/botf/index.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=1

However, the above link will NOT work until you actually sign into the forums. There are several XP patches available on there - different computers need different patches, but i'm not entirely sure why. Don't forget that there is a second page of patches - click the link at the bottom of the download page to see the rest of them!

The 'Joker' person that Skeeter mentioned above is a well-known BOTF modder - probably the best known modder, actually. Joker created most of the patches that are available. He has his own site, which is

http://www.members.aon.at/zelli/others.htm

I personally don't like the structure of the site - it's easier to download stuff from Armadafleetcommand - but if none of the patches work, have a look around Jokers site as there may be some newer stuff. You could also try sending him an email. I've never spoke to him, but I heard he is willing to help people with their BOTF problems.

Welcome to the site. :)

well if you got a copy then it's (at least according to the law in my country) no problem to download the iso from there. maybe your cd is too scratched and things were copied with suppressed crc errors. So get it, burn it or use Daemon Tools, install Joker's patch or Joker's Installer Enhanced Mods (a sticky topic at the Modding Forums on afc) which contain a german version patch that kinda resolves the issue you mentioned cause every german version player has them (wrong meplanet.bin inside the stbof.res archive, in fact it's the ending of the race names in the file which cause the fuss, cardassians versus cardassianer and so on).

After that it should just work.

If there's no music, it might be that it's a codec issue. Every computer is different, so I can only give examples not a specific pack that you can download, but I currently have the ACE Mega Codecs Pack installed on my computer. Without it, I cannot play ANY of the movies in BOTF - they don't even attempt to play, the game just skips them. Once I installed the pack, it all ran perfectly.

The ACE Mega Codecs pack is the only one that works for me - i've tried several without any luck. The link above is the right one, but I was having trouble accessing the whole site earlier. Hopefully it'll be working by the time you read this.

There are plenty of codecs packs available, but free-codecs.com is probably the best place to get them from...when it's working.

*Warning - installation of a codecs pack MAY cause other things to stop working!*

ACE is nothing compared to the K-Lite codec pack. That thing can play anything and everything.

http://www.codecguide.com/index.html

go for the mega pack if you want everything. Though it is a bit advanced.

Lol I tried that one already, Nem - as I said, ACE was the ONLY one that make BOTF work for ME.

Nem, I just uninstalled ACE and installed the K-Lite codec pack just to see if the latest version will allow me to play BOTF movies - it STILL won't. The game simply doesn't even attempt to play them, and just skips to the next screen. :(

Any ideas what codec the BOTF movies need to play?

I tried installing K-Lite in a vain attempt to solve a problem with Armada 1 - the movies are playing extremely slowly, and I constantly have to reinstall the game every time I restart my computer - it's getting annoying now. If I don't reinstall it, when I try to play the game it stops responding whilst on the splash screen. I've tried changing the compatibility mode but that does nothing.

Anyone know anything that can help me? My disk is already version 1.2 so updating is not the problem...

Did you install the pack with all options enabled?

BOTF most likely uses Intel Indeo - Microprose games often used it.

Matress - send me an IM next time your on - I've had similar problems before.

All options were enabled - I specifically went through the entire list and turned everything on, and then I went back and used the codec tweak tool that came with K-Lite and turned everything on again and told it to fix any issues (It told me that the files for five of the codecs were missing and to delete the registry entry for them) but the BOTF movies still don't work.

...

I've noticed something strange in Armada as well. When the intro screen comes up at the very start of the installation process, some music used to play - I checked and it was one of the Borg musics, Mbor300.mp3. This no longer plays, however. The music that plays when you install the game plays just fine though... :?

I'm also having trouble installing Armada now - this really hasn't been my day. It installs fine - until it gets to 100%. The installer simply stops responding then. As it's not installing properly I can't even play the damn thing now.
