Make sure you unzip the entire contents before running. You should have a couple EXE's and some DLLs, as well as a Resources folder with several subfolders. Should be over 50mb uncompressed.

If you hold down control you can direct your ships using waypoints by just clicking each sector you want to move to.

Yes, McLeast, that's the right link.
The download is so small because Supremacy is not yet complete - and it likely won't be complete for at least a year - probably more. Many parts of the game are incomplete or haven't been done at all yet. For example, there is currently no AI, no combat system, and no diplomacy. This will change in the future though - these parts of the game WILL eventually be added in.
Every time Mike updates the game, he will post the download link in the SAME thread - so check it regularly.
The reason Mike has made the download available before it is complete is so that people can playtest the game and to leave feedback on their experience. These are the sorts of things that he wants to know:
- Does the game work on your system?
- If not, what are your system stats? (CPU, RAM, Windows Version, etc)
- Do you get any error messages?
- Does the game run slow?
- Do you think anything needs to be changed to give a better game experience?
- Do you have any other game-improving ideas?
- Do you like the game?
- If not, why?
Things like this help Mike to gauge whether he's going in the right direction or not. The more feedback he gets, the better Supremacy will be when the final version is released.

McLeast, what is the primary language setting on your computer (country/language)? I'm guessing it's not U.S. English...

Quote: String table file could not be located: D:\Games\Neuer Ordner\Resources\Strings\en-US.txt
That was part of the error report, Mike. 'Neuer Ordner' is German for 'New File' according to Altavista. I'm guessing then that McLeast's computer is therefore set up in German...

Yes, I saw that, but it only indicates that he primarily speaks German. It doesn't necessarily mean that his regional settings are configured to use the German language. At any rate, I'm hoping to get the specific locale, e.g. de-DE = German (Germany), de-AT = German (Austria), de-CH = German (Switzerland), etc...

Can you please verify that this file exists on your computer for me:
D:\Games\Neuer Ordner\Resources\Strings\en-US.txt
Let me know if any part of that path is incorrect (i.e. if it's missing any diacritics).

Does Supremacy need to be installed under Program Files, Mike? I've got Supremacy in a folder on my desktop with no problems, but it may be that it needs to be in a particular place under different lanaguage settings.
BOTE kinda had a problem like this, where the files HAD to be in C:/botf2 - if the files were put anywhere else, such as C:/Program Files/botf2, the game simply wouldn't work.

No, Supremacy doesn't have to be in any particular location. All the file paths are relative.
One other thought--if you're using a shortcut to launch the game, make sure the working folder ("start in") is set to the game folder.

In case you didn't see this thread in General Chat, Nemitor_Atimen has set up a BotF2 chat room on IRC. You can join up by clicking the "Chat" link in left sidebar under "Modules". I'll try to maintain a presence there, so if you need technical support or just want to talk about the game, drop on in.

looks absolutely fantastic Mike great work, just a couple of 1st impressions. a click hold and drag facility to move the map may work well, on the right click menu it maybe a bit clearer if the menu names were not right next to each other ie the bottom row of menus could have the name at the bottom (just a case of getting used to where each menu is in the end). It would be convenient to be able to select ships on the map rather than selecting the sector then the ship from the side menu. Sorry if Im pointing out things that you already know.
one other thing I got this message form someone (sepho) who just joined today
Dear,
In confidence, I have to introduce myself, I am Miss Sephora Dodo, the only child of late Mr. Dickson Dodo, I wish to request for your assistance to procure the transfer of my inherited money deposited by my late father for investment ventures Overseas.
I have Four Million Five Hundred Thousand US Dollars ($4,500,000.00) kept on my name as his next of kin with one of the prime banks here and I will require your assistance in receiving the transfer of the money in your local account for investment purposes as it is my desire to come over to your country to further my education while you take care of the investment of the money.
I will be very appreciative if you can return to me with urgent dispatch to enable me notify the bank for advice on the modalities.
I wait in anticipation to receive your immediate response.

My Kind Regards!
Miss Sephora Dodo
Not the type of thing we want I guess where do I report this

Hey Shoulders, welcome to the forums! You can Ctrl+Click and drag the map to move it around. If that doesn't work, it might be Alt+Click--I don't remember exactly which shortcut I set . The popup menu will likely be redesigned anyway.

I just needed to make sure that the game was looking for the string tables in the correct relative path. It looks right. Maybe you should try using a different program to unzip the game? I'm not sure what else to tell you .

Shoulders, thanks for letting us know about the problems. Jigalypuff has posted a news item and 'dealt' with the offender. I'm not sure what exactly he means by that except for banning the user.
We've been hit by spam attacks before, but those were on the forums and our security has been beefed up since then. To my knowledge, the is the first time that the PM system has been used to spam, so it's a bit worrying. Keep letting us know as soon as you notice anything wrong and we'll do everything in our power to deal with the offender.

Posted an update...
CHANGES SINCE LAST RELEASE:
Star Animations haven't seemed to pose a problem for anyone, so they're now enabled by default. I also revised the way home systems are defined for each race, and I've modified the editor so home systems can be set without manually editing the XML. Aside from that, I've made some changes to the client/server, which will hopefully cut down on the random errors lockups. It might also introduce some new errors, so let me know what you find.

I also notice that you've animated the stars in the system view, Mike. Sneaky little addition there.
...
I've been using Mike's new editor to update the minor races for the game. There quite a lot of new races that need to be added, and the existing ones need quite a few tweaks or additions to their info.
As you all know by now, I'm pretty slow at doing stuff like this, (My random events being my worst example of speediness ) ...but you know I do it well.
Give me a few weeks and the updates will be complete. I've completed all the 'A' races so far, so only 129 more minor races to go...
