Can you cut down tanks number of polys ? There is no need for perfect sphere

Yeah I think I'll turn the quality down a little, but I was actually thinking of appying an normal map on it to simulate roundness, but then I thought about how much time that'll take, plus the fact that it's a minor's ship and you wont encounter many of them. I decided that as long as the poly count is under 5k, it should be fine

Nah I found it whilst googling for more info, and I just wondered. Update: Do you know how many cannons it should have? The first one had 12, and this one is an upgrade over the first, right? So, 12+ ? So far it has 14, I can add a few more turrets for more firepower! I'm thinking of making this one a bit cleaner Show that it's better crewed and generally "higher class" (comparatively ) than the other one.

Very nice grunge buggy Strings. Here is what I have done so far for the Klingon Transport III, (Hello Kitty class) Anyone is welcome to put more work into it. This is from ModelsPlease and is in the Klingon Destroyer IV slot for now. I am trying to make them look as if in the same tech era.

The Klingons need a science station, a colonyship and a texture on the fleetyard. There is a destroyer missing. I see the 270x225.png image but the models is hiding somewhere on one of my PCs. They can not stay cloaked forever.

@Strings, i didn' t know that malon has has visible cannon parts? Are you reffering on cylinder objects that are jutting from upper side of hull? I think only difference between malon ships is number of tanks in first case is total number of 6 and in second 8. In your ship i can see about 24 tanks strings maybe that way is better cause is more obvious that is upgraded ship. @ Kenneth, excellent work with transport ship and destroyer, i like the red lines which links them to same klingon era. Somewhere i' ve seen excellent star base made by Skeeter, it would fit well in science station slot, though we should ask him is he willing to provide us with model?

Yes. Do you have any models we can use Skeeter? May we compress them in a .rar and upload to SharePoint? Also a 270x225.png image on a transparent background for the image library?

Here's a pic of the second malon freighter in voyager, it shows how the tanks are arranged; 2 rows at the top, and 1 row at the bottom. Each row has 4 tanks.

@ Strings, i' ve thought those turrets are some kind of control towers or in other words place for crew . You are now expert for malon fleet

Just posting to say the second freighter is done. Texturing the front of the ship was particularly easy because I could refer to the screencap (posted above). The rest of the ship I based it on my imagination and the precious few frames that I could see of the second ship through re-watching the episode. It's a lot cleaner, and has a more blue-ish metal hue than the other one, pics & zip in a bit. Just putting on some final touches. Matress_of_evil wrote: *Danger! Danger! Chemical leak in progress!* Excellent work, Strings. That's a beautiful model you've got there. Thanks Matress ... Controller Strings: "Go to the core and manually eject tank 4!"Matress: "But I didn't sign on for core labour! I'll be killed!"etc... ...Yep. I think it's time I worked on something else other than Malon ships

Commodore Zeleni: Where is zip file and 270x225.png controller Strings? Commodore Zeleni: You make me repeat myself all the time! From now on you are assaigned to core labour. Nahuh no excuses! Commodore Zeleni: Otherwise excellent job.

awesome. I'm doing some final colour adjustments, I decided the texture is little too blue. On its own the texture looks fine, but next to the other Malon ship, they just look a bit too different colour wise. I think the problem is this one is too clean, so I'm making it look like it has been on a few waste export missions by putting in some discolourations of the hull, and adding some green tints to the back half of the ship.

Malon Freighter (no. 2 / "the double decker") Poly: 5566 Verts: 3173The colour is very different from the first, but that's how it was shown in Voyager. Maybe it's operated by a different waste export corporation This ship had a bigger crew than the first too, so I tried to make the "carapace" part (the top) a bit bigger to allow for more space. (Does anyone else think that the things that look like pipes at the front of the ship have a hint of art deco in them? That and the fact that the crew in this episode were very proud of their homeworld, I think the ship creator was trying to impart some elements of Malon grandeur into this design. Just something I noticed whilst scrutinizing Malon ships in the end, I went and added some art deco motifs too, you can see it in the texture, but they're really small on the model itself, just to be on the safe side ) Side by side shots: Front perspective view: Side view: PS - Notice anything on the "nose" of the ship, Zeleni? Thanks, I think they're cool too, Wolfe, I love the Malon ship designs now Looking forward to making them vent waste as they move in the combat engine @Zeleni: Yay you found it!

That's a very nice touch, Strings. Little easter eggs like that can make or break a game, and we know that all the Empires have markings of some kind to show who they belong to, especially the Federation and the Cardassians. So why shouldn't the minors also? Have you guys spoken to Fireball recently? He says he has some free time next week and wants to use it for modelling, so give him something complex, Kenneth - he wants something juicy to get stuck into.

There was some markings underneath where I pasted over with Zeleni's much less blurry Malon emblem. But yeah I agree, if you can fit an emblem on a ship and it doesn't look out of place, do it! I had to reduce the opacity A LOT before the emblem blended in, at 100% opacity it was sticking out way too much.

That is a great looking ship. Yes, if fireball will do more work for the project that would be great. It is not like you need my permission though and especially for all the minor races.
PS: I have one of those in my garage. It needs a new flux capacitor and the plasma injectors are shot. Otherwise you could use mine.

I am going to stick this here for future reference. This is a Cardassian freighter. It could be the basis for a Card transport or colony ship. (Paint is yellow tan and call it Cardassian)

The problem with the freighter though Kenneth is that it seems they reused it alot, either as a cardassian one or a klingon one.

wolfe, I'm not really sure lol, I just exported it as usual from the .max, is there something wrong when you import it?
I've included the texture file (texture2.png) that the model uses in the .rar.
