Lol the MOE models...considering all I did was nick them from SFC2...can we actually use them though? I know Taldren and Interplay don't exactly exist anymore, but still...
They're nice models though, especially the texturing on the Mirak ships. The starbases will probably be the most useful of the models though, because I don't think we have many starbases yet.

Trashman had been working on a Romulan Starbase II before he left. If he shows up again this can be replaced or reworked into some other station. SharePoint uploads are moving very slow right now so I will have to put it up later.

So what race, model ship, should get the Galaxy Quest NSEA Protector? Finest boat in the sector according to the historical records (reruns). "I had originally not wanted to see Galaxy Quest because I heard that it was making fun of Star Trek and then Jonathan Frakes rang me up and said ‘You must not miss this movie! See it on a Saturday night in a full theatre.’ And I did and of course I found it was brilliant. Brilliant. No one laughed louder or longer in the cinema than I did, but the idea that the ship was saved and all of our heroes in that movie were saved simply by the fact that there were fans who did understand the scientific principles on which the ship worked was absolutely wonderful. And it was both funny and also touching in that it paid tribute to the dedication of these fans." — Patrick Stewart

good question, maybe this pic from startrek-meshes.com helps: http://www.scifi-meshes.com/meshes/gallery/D__Kyrearth1.jpgI would say the back part of the ship needs more instant curving when you compare them both. Makes sense that the impulse is back there. Yours, strings, seems to have a too short-curved back and that could be what jig meant..

Yes I see it now, the back is too short.

God bless Ex-astris-scientia! Damn their hotlinking rules though, so I nicked the image. Hope that helps.

Texturemaps or not, I'm back at it. If I need to, I'll UVW wrap it and texture it too. Bear in mind that I use 3D Studio Max. (v7.0) I can use Milkshape (or others) to export other commonly used formats, but please make it easy on me. I'm finishing the texture for the Miranda, and will give you guys a look shortly.

Does Max use the .3s format, Razor? If so, that's the file format that the models are already in, so it's not a problem.

Yes indeedy. .MAX, .3DS.
However, I've a number of tools which allow me to import/export across mediums. Be aware however, that often this process can create problems. (BSP issues, texture issues) Best to get them to me in native 3D Studio format. Just have the artists export to 3DS if they're not using 3D Studio.

This is the .png SharePoint game image of the Miranda model we already have. When I get more than one model of the same ship I make version subfolder of each model available for the devs to chose from. (If no one is offended we could just dump a lesser model. ) It is great to have more work on models taking place. If you look on SharePoint under Shared Documents > 3D models > and then the races you will see the model folders that are empty. I built all the folders but mark folders as empty if we still need that model. This helps us find the models on the list that we still do not have for the game. I am working to filling the list before I go back and fix up or replace the weaker models.

Hello guys.
I haven't been visiting lately.. Got caught up in a lot of projects and I'm writing a paper on 3D graphics (and making some basic 3D engine).
I'm still here to help if something needs helping with. the romulan station? Still here..didn't I upload the latest model?
Irk..can someone tell me what's the status with some of the models I've been working on so I know what needs doing and what not?

Welcome back and it is good to see you. The best way to tell what needs doing is to look at the SharePoint 3d model folders. The empty ones should be marked with the name of what is needed and the designation empty. Here is the Dominion in need of an outpost. http://www.botf2.com/Shared%20Documents ... 44987A3%7dLook at the image library as well to see, for example, that the Romulan Shipyard One needs a texture. See also that the Romulan Starbase II has a bad looking bash job Starbase just waiting to be replaced by that fine station you were working on. When your Romulan Starbase Two is ready rar it up and upload to that folder. I will make the old one into and "extra" model tomorrow just in case we need an extra station in a hurry. http://www.botf2.com/Image%20Library/Fo ... ulan&View={2EAB3CAC-2EF3-4EA6-85DB-87B0D9B58BA0}

hey trashman, cdrwolfe and strings are doing two separate 3D engines, look here: http://botfii.armadafleetcommand.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2216&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=3d+engine . maybe you can help them. there's also a demo somewhere in that thread to download. cdrwolfe's one is made with irrlicht, strings one with XNA and .NET 3.5. Could also help you in your project .

My work on Models is on hold once again. The PC used to do modeling has a slowly failing hard driving. I will order a replacement and hopefully transfer all the data. It is only a delay.

Nah..I'm making a VERY simple 3D engine cause I have to. I used to be excellent programmer, but I haven't touched C++ in years and switched to modeling/texturing Cest' La vie! EDIT: The mesh of the romulan Starbase 2 is complete, but the texture I made for it is gone I'll have to make a new one. I know I can be slow sometimes, but ..I lack incentive. Seeing my models in-game charges my modeling drive and BOTF2 is quite a ways from having the battle engine atm. *grumble* No worries..I won't abandon you folks.

but you have tried both separate combat demos I've linked above, haven't you? I ask because you can actually see your models in there, even fighting .
