Instead of being a necromancer with the ancient thread, and to reflect that we now do both BOINC-platform and F@H, thought that this could serve our evil purposes.

If a team exists for us in any of the BOINC projects, I'll switch my points over.

I just searched for a BOTF2 team on SETI; you guys are running that without a BOTF2 team? Blasphemy!

If you all dont make one, I will.

I've.. set up a funky scheme with a virtual machine with VMWare running linux in a VM so I could use the more efficient SMP linux client code, and.. well anyway, bottom line:

A: I'm a geek
B: I've clearly been single for a little while to go to the trouble to eek out extra points-per-day
C: I've settled in to finishing a 1760 point work-unit every 26-27 hours of time I keep the virtual machine up, so a little better then every other day in practice.

I think my points per day might stabilize around 1400, or almost 10k / week.. More if I'm busy, less if I have a time to play EveOnline. All that on a stock-speed E6600. I kept up the overclock through the winter, but.. it's hot enough in this office.

And how about this for a team goal: 1 million points for the team by the end of the year!

My fuzzy, fuzzy math says we're almost on track. Just need a little more push, I think, and we could knock it out.

I just worked out that i'm averaging about 70 points per day at the moment, and i'm folding 24/7! How are you doing this, Ringold?!

I've just installed the GPU client on my computer as I just upgraded to a Radeon X1650 graphics card. I'm *attempting* to run the GPU and CPU versions at the same time, but i'm not having the best of luck as you can see in my rant thread Here.

It seems you can stupidly only run one graphical client at a time, so i've got to run the GPU client as a service - which for some reason only works when I MANUALLY load it up, because even though it is set to load with windows it doesn't load properly - it loads with only a memory usage around the 200kb mark. I have to close the GPU client via ctrl-alt-del and restart it manually - where it then has a memory usage of around 16.5mb, as well as opening two or three f@hcores. But opening the program manually then opens an extremely annoying MS-DOS box instead of just being completely invisible by running in the background - which then stops running if my sister wants to log onto her area - and she wouldn't understand what an MS-DOS box was even if I attempted to explain it to her so she would close it!

Stupid folding programmers.

On the plus side, I managed to borg my area on the computers in uni, so i've got an extra computer folding for me. The downside is that as it is installed on my area rather than the network, I can only fold while I am logged on, which is only about 5 hours per week. I also finish uni in august so i'll be lucky to complete 2 units at this rate. :(

When I run two console clients on my E6600, I was getting about 430-460ppd, which is in line with what you get with it (E6600 is dual core, so core for core not a big difference). I think my X2-3800 gets 200ppd per core. Thats all assuming 24-7

They are hard-coded (the GUI clients) with a machine id of 1, so, yeah. Not sure why they did that.. not sure why they don't fix that.. I would think it'd be easy..

If you can manage to beat the beta client in to submission, then that might be good; you could get an extra ~200ppd according to Totow, for 400ish ppd total. Combined you and I could then easily, I think, carry the team to 1 million by years end :)

Assuming there hasn't been a new post in the last few minutes.. I think I'm up to date on that thread. Opening the zip directly from the download thing installed the client to temp folder (it's a "dumb" installer and just installs itself where ever it happens to be at that moment), so it looks like when you reboot windows is going to nuke it every time. Download the install thing, and extract it to a new folder (I always use something like this: C:\Folding\GPU Client, or C:\Folding\CPUClient1), then run the installer. That should solve the problem with the GPU client.

As for running two GUI's, like Totow said, it won't work. :| I'd use the latest console GPU client; it's a higher version, so hopefully less buggy. Set it to a machine id of 2, and then use an old GUI CPU client (v5.03 I think it is, or the newer 6 beta 2 one) so you still have a nice GUI client.

All beta clients expire every few months by the way, thats one of the problems you were running in to, they were behind the curve in posting new clients and you must've downloaded an expired one before they replaced it.

If you can't manage to get it to behave though, I'd just stick with the v5.03 GUI client. It works and you like it.

I've managed to get the GPU client to behave during startup - I deleted the program, reinstalled it into a non-temp folder, and put a shortcut for the program in my Windows startup folder.

...This still means that a horrible MS-DOS box comes up, but i've left it running for almost 48 hours now, and the unit is now 71% done. It's doing p2742_GPUlamda, a 330 point unit in case you were wondering. The CPU graphical client is doing p2453_Fragment-Recep, a 243 point unit. It's 56% done - but it's been folding for three days straight now but it still has three days and sixteen hours of folding left to do! My GPU must be waaaaaay more powerful than my CPU.

Nice image, by the way. Helpful.

I'm a command-line racist. Nevermind I'm living with an open VMWare living on my task bar; command line windows are so 1995. :P

So then, you could create a shortcut to the GPU client (after closing it since you have it running), then add a "-configonly" tag, execute it, and run through install again (it just overwrites the client.cfg), this time having it install as a service. After its asked its questions, the window should close. Reboot, or you might be able to open your services window thing (I forget how to get to the services manager in XP) and if its there you can ask it to start up the service rather then rebooting.

Does that work? I'm thinking everything is in its proper place now, so hopefully it will. Good luck :)

Wow we're starting to climb the ranks again now! Our 24-hour average point score has hit 1683 and we've climbed 9 places in the last 7 days! My new GPU client and Ringold are really adding to the team's points.

Attention readers! Join this is your chance to join the official BOTF2 folding team and put your computer to work for the benefit of scientific research! :bigthumb:

What about me? I've been folding for the last 18 hours :mischief:

Yep! it all worked out Ringold. Still hate having the MS-DOS box come up though. I want both graphical clients running!

...I didn't try your suggestion coz my services thinng never works properly - every time i've used it to close any programs I just get an error message a few minutes later saying the service stopped responding.

...

Scored any points yet, Nem? :P

*Edit - damn, yes you have, Nem. You need a few more to catch me though.

Actually, last points I scored were two years ago. I'm only at 78% of my work unit right now :(

I wondered why you weren't showing up in the active user list on kakaostats! I just thought they hadn't updated the stats yet. :P

2 hours before you posted this message it finished. I find it amusing how in 1 day my score has doubled, and I went up 6 spots on the team. (1,760 points in 24 hours)

Yeah, you're gonna be a super folder in the team if you keep this up, Nem! I've been folding for 2/3 years now, but i've only got 64000 points. At the rate you're going you'll overtake me in just over a month!

Most of the team "members" haven't folded in a long time though - most of them only did one or two units as well. It's a shame. Would be good if we could get some new blood in the team. Anyone else want to join the team?

Your production matches mine, Nem!

If I hadn't already accumulated a decent points buffer, I'd be worried. Everyone below me concerned with their rank should be worried. :D

In the mean time.. making 1 million by years end is now laughibly easy. Looks like we'll be there a few months early!
