I also encountered the same problem when Supremacy attempts to resolve combat, it just sits there...resolving. Or at least that one time I actually encounted combat (February update, I'll try out the new one soon).

Ah yes, I forgot to mention that Supremacy will notify you of an update the first time you run the game. It shouldn't actually download anything--it just needs to set up a local registry so it knows which version is installed. In MoE's case it actually downloaded some files because it detected that they were different from the latest version on the server. The sliders *were* working correctly--however, for some reason the source code in my machine was out of sync with the code in source control. I thought I got all my changes merged properly, but I might have missed something. Grrr...

OK, the research/personnel slider lock images have been swapped back to their correct positions. The game should automatically download and apply the fix (goddamn that's cool).

It has to restart itself so it can copy the new files from a temporary folder into the game folder. It can't do that while the game is running, so it has to close out. I figured it should start itself back up again afterwards :).

Mike, I just received a 6.7mb update - and it deleted my updates. Luckily I've gotten into the habit of making backups now. :P

But I noticed something strange after installing the update. I managed to member three minor races during a game - but two of them had population problems. The Xindi had 158 out of a maximum of 250 population - but they weren't growing, even though they had a 4% growth rate and they had tons of food to spare. The same thing happened to the Vori - but it was even worse. They had only 6 population - so they didn't have enough people to even make one populaion block. This meant they couldn't grow any food to even feed themselves.

I don't know if this was a glitch or something but perhaps a rethink is needed on what happens when a race has less than 10 population?

By the way, this wasn't due to my game updates as I haven't yet reached either the Xindi nor the Vori.

...

For anyone else reading this, i've just finished updating the tech requirements of the facilities. You won't need to have research in all areas now, but I thought it was more realistic to still require research in multiple areas.

Food buildings now require: Food, Computers, and Construction of equal tech level.
Industrial buildings now require: Computers, Energy, and Construction of equal tech level.
Energy buildings now require: Computers, Energy, and Construction of equal tech level.
Research buildings now require: Equal levels for all techs.
Intel buildings now require: Equal levels for all techs.
Personnel buildings now require: Equal levels for all techs.

Yes, it will download any files necessary to synchronize your local copy with the copy on the server. That means it will overwrite your data files if they don't match. You'll need to back up your changes before applying an update, or skip the update.

It was messing up the post formatting Mike - and I only did it as a temporary solution. I saved the link to the old image just to make sure. And I can't see anything wrong with the image, the transparencies show up fine for me. And I don't remember you telling me not to link to sharepoint, but i'll know in future.

Hi Guys just to let you i got to turn 88 i think and the game hung in (resolving combat) at least i got further this time, also the tec tree dosnt seen to advance very far when you research to upgrade say Autamatic farm to level 2 and so on nothing goes furhther than level one.

Also the lock/unlock on the sliders are reversed and so confuses you when u try to reassign to another tech research ,and sometimes when clicking on to home system(SOL) some of the stuctures disappear and and the amount of strutures built vanish but they are there yet it shows them gone so when you check another system and then come back to Sol system they are there again, as any one else encontered this beside other problems listed.......

Attraia, the buildings have different tech requirements to BOTF - in the version of Supremacy that you have, the food buildings for example require advancments in ALL areas, not just Food. So to get Type 2 Automated farms, you first need to research Food 2, Energy 2, Computers 2, Construction 2, Propulsion 2, AND Weapons 2.

I know this sounds stupid, but don't worry about it - i've personally changed this and it will be part of a future game update when I send my updated files to Mike. This won't be for a week or three yet though as i'm going away this weekend and i'm barely a third of the way through updating the minor races with Dafedz's latest game information and stats.

My building updates haven't changed the requirements back to BOTF1 levels either - for instance, the Type 2 Automated Farm now requires Biology 2, Computers 2, and Construction 2 to make things more realistic. At least you won't need Energy, Propulsion and Weapons to grow more food though. :P

Out of curiosity, are these lockups during combat resolution occurring because you're actually encountering an enemy fleet, or is it random? Hint: there are no enemy fleets in single player.

It must be random then, Mike. I've had the problem happen to me, albeit only the once and that was a few days ago now. I just clicked turn, the game started going through all the different turn resolution stuff, and then suddenly one appears saying "resolving combat" and the game then does nothing else. It really is like it's gotta stuck in a loop or something at that stage.

The game itself doesn't freeze or crash or anything though - the animations continue in the background and Windows doesn't tell you the program has stopped responding or encountered an error. It's just that nothing happens. The only way to get out of it is to force the program to close in Task Manager.

well my tech tree research finally upgraded to level 2 just took along time , it upgraded earlier in a earlier Supremacy relaese so it seemed or maybe it was just me... :? The resolving combat issue happens randomly and stops the game for what ever reason.....Oh and the lock/unlock in the sliders for the tech research works now after last update....

i dont think that that glicth will go away untill a combat system is added to the game becuse it sounds like in gates stuck ina loop, WAIT i think it has something to do with the engage mode, (engage avoid.) if 2 opposing fleets bump into each other and they are in engage, then that means that there is combat but the AI doesnt know what to do with it.

Automated (non-tactical) combat has been implemented for some time, so I see only two possibilities:
  • Some change to the code has broken automated combat.
  • The problem is completely unrelated to combat, and 'Resolving Combat' was simply the last phase of turn processing to complete successfully (and the next phase is failing so quickly that the client isn't getting the message to update the turn phase display).
I don't suppose anyone has noticed a pattern between the hanging and what else they were doing in the game at the time? Maybe there's a particular building or ship that causes the game to crash when construction is completed?

Hi to all! I'm new here, my first post :)

First I want to say that my English is very bad so if you don't understood me something just ask me.. :D ... second I want to congratulate and to thank developers for creating such a amazing and beautiful game! :bigthumb:. I just downloaded and played, it's great and I thing it will be a way better then original BoF.

Now, about "2 or 3 specific things" that MStrobel mentioned, I only play it for few hours and most of the things I noticed is probably in plans, but here it is:

my suggestions for improvement:

Moving through the map - It would be great if we could move map by "grabbing" it with mouse click and then moving map with mouse, like in some games with big maps. And make moving through the map and in-game menus smooth and quick as possible , without unnecessary fades, "eye-candies" and similar things, because players will be moving a lot between menus and through the map.

Star system information on map - in system menu when we move cursor over planets window with information appear, it would be helpful if same thing happens when moving cursor over star systems in main screen, and window display info about system, like morale, food, building and ship construction progress...

move range on map - just like in BoF, it would be helpful if ship ranges are displayed on map all the time (if player choose so) . I noticed that now every ship have its own range, but game still can display on map a "green" range (range of a available ship with smallest range ) and red range - range of a available ship with biggest range, and maybe yellow for average range.

- a "hot key" for main/map menu

- a list with differences between BoF and Supremacy for new players, and manual or some help for the game for player who never played BoF

Things I don't like:

Research - Don't like it in the original BoF and in here, its just too linear and simple, I prefer research system like in Galactic Civilization or in Space Empires.

Things I like:

everything else in game, especially more strategic resources to fight for and ship fuel/ranges :bigthumb:

And I found a bug:

When trying to enter with colony ship in a system with some other my ship, it enter in some endless loop while processing turn, it stops while "performing pre-turn operations", all animations still working and I can still move through menus, but I can quit game.

This occur when:
- my colony ship should enter in a system with my another ship (Cruiser I)
- my ship (Cruiser I) should enter a system with my colony ship

and do not occur that turn when:
- my colony ship is going somewhere else
- when that system in which colony ship should enter is empty

Here are save files and logs for that situation: (system is sector 9,17 - Prakal)

Found one more bug:

In Prakal system (again :D ) - 9,17 - I have Dilithium Refinery and Agricultural Centres which I can't turn on. I have enough energy, and I turn them on but next turn they are off. And similar problem, other structure which are turn on I can't turn off, I click on them and they become gray but next turn they are back off line. Only building which I can normally turn on/off is Subspace Scanner.

Here is save file and logs for that situation:
http://myfreefilehosting.com/f/2121142d09_0.22MB

Second thing: population is not increasing right, like on this Prakal a have grown rate 12% but population only increase for "base" 2% and additional 10% from desalination plants is not calculated in grown, I don't know if this is a bug or just not yet implemented.

Third, Firefox tells me that centres is misspelled word and offers me centers.

New Automatic Update:

Fixed a bug where automated combat would crash.

New labor is automatically allocated to food production if the colony's population is expected to grow beyond its capacity to produce food within the next three turns; otherwise new labor is allocated to industry if possible.

I aplogize ahead of time if this is the wrong thread... There are quite a few forums with a LOT of threads and I haven't been able to go through them all. Obviously, I am quite new to these forums. :) I am a trek fanatic and very excited to get into this game. I am having some generic problems that I haven't seen any posts about yet.

I've downloaded the newest version of the game (linked on the first page of this thread) as well as the additional program needed, and the latest patch for Windows XP. The game loads, and after I click single player, then select options, the game crashes. It gives an exception that says is listed in the game error log. Now, after loading, it asks if I want to download the latest updates, I have tried clicking yes, clicking no, and changing game preferences (to see if it was a specific bug) and get the same error message at the same point.

This may be unrelated but before I found this forum I downloaded an earlier version of the game and had the same problem. Immediately after clicking single player and selecting the game preferences, the game crashes. I have the newest version and it goes just a little further (with the update screen) and I get this issue.

Is there a way I can fix this? A setting I need to change? I aplogize again if this is the wrong thread, and if it is if you could please direct me to the appropiate topic. Thanks! :)

Are you sure you installed the .NET v3.5 SP1 Beta (and not just .NET v3.5)? Such a mixup could cause precisely the problem you're experiencing. You could also try pasting the contents of the Error.txt file here so I can take a look :).

I've now noticed that the saved games still work after the updates are automatically downloaded. Will they always work after an update now or will there be a few updates that will make my saved games invalid?

There will be some updates that invalidate your saved games. Sometimes the saved game will work fine, sometimes it will fail to load entirely, and other times it might appear to work, but with some subtly incorrect behavior. I suppose the general rule is to never assume it will work, but in this case, there should not be any breaking changes.

I had the same bug, at turn 60, and now it's replaced with "completing pre turn orders..." and gets stuck. Same exact error, just different message, it doesn't freeze or close out, just doesn't progress beyond that.

Also, you said earlier in single player there are no enemy fleets? Does that mean there is no combat/need to combat ships?
