I thought I recognised some of them. Are there any Star Wars models in there as well? Might start a bit of a fight there.

No Star Wars that I know of. I hope to work the BSGs into ST sub races as time permits. Right now I am more focused on filling the slots.
No, I am not trying to start a fight. Anyone can please make a better model. More pressing right now is all the empty slots. Lets save the fighting for when we have enough models to make the game run.

I would imagine the star wars comment stems from the resemblance of the front end of the Denubulan Freighter above to that of a Corellian CR90 Corvette in star wars

This is a nice one. It has a half retro Romulan half more advanced look so I put it in as the Romulan Battlehawk I R'Tan. The old one can be recycled to the minors.

Thanks for your feedback CoretTrobane. It is a slow and tedious process trying to find and or build all the models needed to complete the extensive shiplist. When it is done there will be a lot of eye candy for the big fleet confrontations.

one question ken, since these models are mostly not natively trek, are they from some other scifi series like BSG or anything? If not, I'd like to use the ones that are of an original design as minorrace ships for our original content.

We have permission from Models Please, MajorPain and other to use their work. A lot of what I have been looking at is from them and their BSG series as you can see.
There is a lot of work left to go on these BSGs before we call them all Star Trek. I do not want them to look BSG by the time we are done with them. There are some really nice models in this class so it is worth looking for some less well know ships to use as minor race or even major race transports, colonyships and the like.
It is a lot faster to none uniformly rescale and otherwise reverse engineer these into a more Star Trek like ship than to build something original that good. I would love to have all original ships but, as I have said before, the math works out to over thirteen years to fill the shiplist.
There are some low poly rather bad looking ships in our major races right now. I have it on my list to move all the best non ST models from minor race into major race if they can be made to look ST. I want to end up with the best ships the most commonly used.

BSG would be an excellent source for "ideas" simply because there are soo many designs. They're perfect for adapting to our games. But we definitely need to change them to ensure we don't get problems with copyright. Plus I think it would look nice if most of the ships had Warp engines of *some* kind, even if they don't have them in BSG. There are several ways the ships can be changed. Sections could be added/removed/changed, the colour of the textures could be changed, or they could be given completely new textures. Variety is what we really want though. We want the ships to be every size, shape and colour as possible. We want some ships to be sleek and shiny, some that are ugly rust buckets, some that look organic, some that are warships, some that are cargo freighters. The most important thing to remember is that they are all "built" for different purposes by different races with different technologies, materials, components, and capabilities. The one-size-fits-all approach is definitely NOT an approach that we should consider, and the greater the range of models that we can get, the more eye-candy we can feast on in the future.

Great minds think alike. (I have noted that some canon ST minor race ships have no obvious nacelles - a minor point.) Model Priorities: 1. Fill all the slots so we can run the game 2. Make them look OK I am still working on #1. (I know it gerates anxiety but just bare with me) (Damn, no TARDIS for the Time Lords on the minor race planet of Dr. Who? That model is out their and built for mods in ST games.) I have tested my Borg weapons on it. I may mod it in for my own copy of Supremacy.

Just remember that not all the races are Warp capable. We also know that there are other technologies that allow a ship to achieve Hyperlight velocity. Like I said, the ships are going to be equipped with many technologies, and this is also going to be reflected in the stats, defenses, and weapons. Some ships will have no shields but tons of armor, some ships will fire swarms of weak missiles but have no energy weapons, and so on. The possibilities are endless.

yo guys...I see the forums are back up. Couldn't aces them for a long time.
B.t.w. - I couldn't log in with my normal username and password for some reason (I'm TrashMan). So, how's the progress? I assume the fleetyards still need doing, right?

Hey the-guy-formally-known-as-Trashman, we've had some major problems with a small minority of user accounts sicne the forum move. Check your PM's for some info that might help you. Kenneth is the guy that is in charge of the models...unfortunately, he's been hit by the same account problem as you, so if you need to contact him, send him a PM via the AFC forums. The 3D models are still on sharepoint, although we recently lost a few of them such as the Malon designs because Strings has disappeared. Check out the files on Sharepoint and see if the fleetyards still need to be worked on. It's a safe bet to assume that they do need at least some work though. Welcome back the forums.

Hmm...yep, fleetyards still need working on. I could texture and mp the romulan ships too.

Damn, that's annoying. Well like I said in the PM, we're working on a potential fix so cross your fingers. Take our minds off the forum problems with some fancy new textures and models.

It is good to be able to log in again. Hello again Trashman. It is great to see you are working on models. A new Saber will be great. There is one on Sharepoint but original is always best. Your Klingon and Romulan Fleetyard need textures as does your Romulan Heavy Destroyer D'Xokra I found some new romulan shipyards online. We have no Dominon Fleetyard and the Dominion shipyards are still a rather odd collection. It is great to be back.

Oh yea, big questions guys -
1.) Is the Minor Race list of ships on page one of this thread the final list? Do we really use fighter and freighter and all those races?
We are starting to fill up the list of ships and I do not want to do all the work to find out there are some major changes please.
2.) I see tankers in some of the major races but no construction ships. Did we scrap the tankers and add in one for more construction ships to the list? Can we update the list to reflect that?
Do we need to have a meeting or can someone play god and stamp a seal of approval on the lists above?

My old account is back up!
OK, I'm almost done with the Sabre...just making some tweaks on it's texture and adjusting UV mapping on a few places..
the Romulan and Klingon shipyards got a bit bigger b.t.w. Those pics are slightly out-dated. Still haven't begun texturing them, but I'll get to it.

Great. I think we can also match up the number of ship bays a yard has with the game stats. The game calls for more ship bays per yard as they get more advanced yards. MOE, where was / is that data on the number of ship bays per yard?

The data for the shipyards is as follows: Small Shipyard: 1 bay. Medium Shipyard: 2 bays. Large Shipyard: 4 Bays Fleetyard: 6 Bays. I know this might unfortunately mean remaking the existing yards, but where possible, try to make the shipyards look like they are upgrades/extensions of older shipyards. Try to bear in mind the era that they shipyards are from as well; small shipyards are NX-TOS era, medium shipyards are Excelsior-Ambassor Era, Large Shipyards are Galaxy to Sovereign Era, and Fleetyards are post-Dominion War era. Don't forget to make the large shipyard quite wide as well, coz TNG-era ships for all of the Empires except maybe the Cardassians appear to be "fatter" and more square in overall shape compared to earlier eras. The fleetyard can be completely different though, since it is *meant* to be the premier shipbuilding facility of the Empire, using the absolute cutting edge of technology. It's also uber expensive and advanced as a tech 11 structure, so make it look the part. I hope that's not too restrictive for you guys. You're all fantastic modellers though so i'm sure you'll find a way. ... Kenneth, Tankers and Freighters have officially been scrapped as a ship class. Any ship that is labelled as a Tanker or Freighter is now a Transport. (But only in game designation, it may still be called a Tanker or Freighter if that is how they were identified onscreen or are otherwise known as) Fighters will not be in for the time being, but they could always be modded in much later. Any ships currently labelled as a fighter will now be reclassed as a low-tech Fast Attack/Destroyer vessel. As for the shiplist, I don't know of any major changes to the ships of the Empires lately, although there are likely to have been some minor alterations. I'm pretty sure the minor race shiplist is out of date though. We've expanded it considerably and I can't remember whether I updated this version of the shiplist or not. I'll go through them later today when i've got time. I wasn't online all of yesterday and you wouldn't believe how many PM's and jobs I was given in the meantime.
