Has anyone else played Spore yet? I just got it today, and it's cool!

You have to create an entire species, starting off as a bacteria that lands on a planet inside a Meteorite, and work your way up to a spacefaring race. The game is therefore split into five sections, with each section a different stage in the evolution of your species.

Each section is like an entire game in itself though. The interface and controls change for each section (There's a really useful tutorial the first time you enter a stage though) to show the various new controls you need. And when you get to the civilization stage, you have to design your own buildings, cars, ships, and planes!

The graphics of the game are brilliant and colourful, even though I got a warning at the start that my drivers were a bit old, and the scale of the game is huge. It literally does go from the microscopic to the galactic, although not in the same way that Sins of a Solar Empire does it, for instance.

If you've got a few hours (Days) to kill, you like the Sims, or you simply want to play god, this game is definitely for you.

If you get the game, make sure you create an account on the wwebsite - the game will ask you if you want to sign in using your Spore account, and any creatures, buildings, cars, ships, or planes that you make are automatically uploaded to your account so that other people can view - and download - them.

Looks cool, i always wanted me next project to be something lie spore but a million times more complex and based on more hard core AI and computer science techniques.

I expected that they would. I remember in an early promo video of the game, one of the creators create a spaceship in the shape of Enterprise. I haven't seen that video in a long time though.

I've advanced to the space age in my game now, and I absolutely love it. At first glance, the map is horrifically complex, but you get used to it quickly. Everything is colour-coded or identified by special shapes around the stars, or have specially coloured lines between the star flight paths.

I've also conquered three other star systems (I'm at war with the Birdy Empire) have colonised another system, have an alliance with two other races, and am in contact with another 20 races or so. The messages in the game are annoying me a bit though. The Intimidatio Empire keeps threatening me with demands for money that I can't afford - but at the same time one of my allies loves me so much they keep throwing 10,000 Sporebucks my way. That's particularly intersting because they're also asking me to buy their star system.

Actually, I've also found the Borg (a Cube and a drone, amongst other "things"). Do you think they'll start assimilating?

Also, some versions of Enterprise seem to exist...

i would get it, but other than being poor, the DRM is so intolerable that I wont even consider buying it.

I know, you can't even have two accounts with the game - my sister has to use my account to even be able to play it. That's the one thing I HATE about EA, they really screw up their games with DRM. Stardock really is the future of publishing.

You can play offline but you will miss out some features.
