No Jean, ships will not auto-upgrade like they did in BOTF - except for the non-combat ships. (Colony ships, transports, hospital ships, construction ships) This was a decision that we made a year or two ago, and to my knowledge no one has made any objections to it in that time. To "upgrade" ships, you will need to physically send them to a shipyard. The old ship will then be scrapped, and it's resources will be used to build the new design. Any extra resources that are needed will then be taken from your resource pool. I'm not sure what will happen to the existing crew/ship experience but i'm hoping it will get transferred over. Until Mike actually gets to implementing ship upgrades we won't know if this is programmable or not.

Mothballing ships is definitely going to be in the game - in fact mothballing was one of the original features that Iwulff proposed in the old, old, Things We All Agree On (TWAAO) thread more than four years ago. Whilst the forum that TWAAO was on no longer exists (Jig deleted it 2 years ago because most of the threads in there were for Gavin's Rebirth of the Federation project and as such were no longer relevant to most of the BOTF2 project), select parts of TWAAO are still present in Dafedz's database because some of it is still relevant. You can view the surviving parts of TWAAO in the BOTF2 Masterplan section of his Database.

My content update should also have added a mothball yard for each of the empires (One per empire) and a sixth one as one of the Zakdorn special buildings. The structures are useless for the time being though as the mothball system hasn't yet been implemented, so we might just disable the structures for the time being - as we've done with the Moon Colonization buildings. We're hoping to have some sort of screen a bit like the ship construction screen that will allow you to select individual ships to bring out of mothball, but until Mike starts working on that area of the game I can't predict exactly what will be possible nor how it will work.

Thank you for the link. It was very helpful. I had a few more questions but that link cleared them up.

I have a question. What, exactly, are the purpose of asteroid belts, Demon-class planets, and Crystilline Giants? Are they for show, or do they serve a purpose?

Virtually everything in the game has a purpose, mknote.

Asteroid belts are required by certain structures in the game (Such as Asteroid Harvesters). These structures generally increase your rate of raw material extraction per turn, allowing you to build more ships more quickly. We also hope to include Asteroids in the combat system, but it remains to be seen as to whether this will indeed be possible.

Demon-class planets will be exceptionally rare - possibly one per Quadrant. Colonizing such a planet will provide a vast boost to your Deuterium Extraction efforts - providing more fuel for your fleets, and allowing you to send those fleets further out into space.

Crystalline planets are a little bit of an oddity - because Mike implemented them without providing me with a reason why. I only noticed them myself when there was suddenly a giant purple planet in a system I was editing at the time. Crystalline planets are generally considered to be exactly what they sound like though; giant, uninhabitable crystals. (They potentially exist in real life) If Mike doesn't provide me with a reason for them though, I can easily make up several structures that would require the presence of a Crystalline planet, such as a Dilithium Extractor, a morale building, a trade building, or a tourism building. (Could have multiple bonuses - morale, system income, system growth rate, etc) Whatever happens, they are extremely rare planets, just like Rogue and Demon planets, just slightly less rare.

You mentioned the final reason for ALL of these game objects though, mknote - they're also great eye candy! 8-)

I have found one problem. I was able to build the Jalanda Forum on Bajor twice. I only hit the construction button once but it built two instances of the Forum.

This is a known bug, Jamie, but it's one that Mike thought he had fixed an update or three ago. It's possible he accidentally removed the fix during the last update.

Basically, the construction screen sometimes desynchronises from the rest of the game, so the build queue doesn't get updated when a building is completed. Supremacy builds structures differently to BOTF; any leftover industrial points after a building is completed is put into building the next building in the queue. If the second building is completed then the remaining points are put into building the third object in the queue, and so on until all of the industrial points have been used or there is nothing left in the list; whichever comes first. Spare industry was simply wasted in BOTF. However, this difference means that if the desynchronisation happens at the same time that a structure is completed, the structure will be built, but the build queue will not update, so the spare industry is then put into the next building in the list - which will still be the building that was just completed - the Jalanda forum in your case, Jamie, so you got two buildings instead of one. As this bug is a programming one rather than a database issue, it can potentially affect ALL buildings, not just the Jalanda forum.

I just voted on the Star Trek Games website for Matress of Evil and Star Trek Supremacy as often as possible. It was hard to pick between Star Trek Supremacy and Star Trek Excalibur because i follow both very closely, but i like the way that Supremacy has something you can play and work with as well as an editor while Excalibur has nothing i can work with yet, so i chose Supremacy as the most anticipated star trek game.

This is the website to vote for everything that can be voted on for star trek games:

http://startrek-games.com/startrekforum ... .php?f=305

Vote for Star Trek Supremacy and the members of the team!

Thanks for your votes Jamie! I voted for Supremacy and myself as well. :P

Just being nominated is an honour, so being voted for is like getting a medal at the Olympics. Winning would mean getting gold at the Olympics of course. :P

Two more questions:

1. Will you be able to build minor race ships after they've become part of your empire?

2. Are all bonuses going to be fixed at 15%, or will they be variable as they were in BOTF?

1) I'm not actually sure yet. I'm hoping that you will be able to do so, but if it is possible then you will only be able to build minor races ships in their homesystem. I don't know how Mike feels about the ships though so we will have to wait and see.

2) Uhh...which bonuses? The food and energy ones? These are set at 15% because that is the only amount you can currently set in the editor. I know that Mike is working on a new version of the editor but I don't know what his plans are - if any - in respects to changing the bonuses system. I've already told him that BOTF had bonuses of up to 100% per planet though, so with any luck he will change this.

Actually you won't be able to build minor races ships, it was agreed somewhere in this tread but this thread is huge and i don't know where.

I think that it would be nice to have the minor races ships as part of the defense of their system, so you could bild them but you couldn't move them out of their system.

Does the team realize that you have the same minor race twice? The Kes and Prytt race in the resource folder(well, in the pictures anyway) have two of the same picture, one named kes and pyrtt and the other name kesandprytt.

That's funny, minor ships can fly around before minor joins empire after that you can build them but they are fixed in one place, sorry, it's not very logical. :)

I know about the problem and actually already fixed it. Mike just hasn't released the update yet. However, I don't know if the auto-updater is capable of deleting files so you might be better off deleting the extra image yourself.

...Zeleni just told me he's got some new images so the update I sent Mike is old now anyways.

Very true Zeleni. I was thinking about that after i posted. Maybe we could just incorporate technology into the ships we have then.

That is good Matress. Just wanted to make sure you knew.

First of all...happy New Year to all!

Second, well good job for the Supremacy Team....this game is promising.

Now to business...well I've been playing both Romulans and Klingons and I noticed that you cannot build outposts...is there a reason for that or is it just because you are in the process or will work on it at a later date?...I know that the Federation can build those...also, is a Science Station increase the overall input of in the science field...meaning increass in research?

On a last note, I noticed that the game at a certain point when you colonize too many planets has the tendency to freeze when processing the next turn...I wonder if it happens to any of you guys.

Keep up the great work...gonna try that new battle engine :)

Hey Thierry, welcome to the forums! :)

The lack of outposts is purely a result of the game still being a work-in-progress; we'll be adding them in at a later date, so don't worry about that. And yes, Science stations WILL increase your research output. I don't know if they do it *yet* though. The amount of research they can perform will be dependant on where you place them - they will have higher research outputs if you put them near an anomaly, such as a Nebula, in a system with rare planets, etc etc.

The freezing during turn processing is an extremely annoying bug that is thankfully relatively rare. It has plagued the game for a long time now, but we're at a loss to the cause. I'm afraid you'll just have to remember to save the game regularly. Sorry I couldn't give better news than that. :(

Hey everyone, if you're having trouble getting the auto-updater to update Supremacy, i've just uploaded my own copy of Supremacy to the downloads section of Our Portal Page.

Sorry I can't give you a direct download link, but for security reasons you need to be signed into the portal before you can download files - a directl download would therefore be useless until you logged in. If you can't log onto the portal page, you will need to sign up. (The portal has a different user database to these forums, even though it's on the same website as the forums, so if you haven't already created an account you will need to do so first)

You can find the Supremacy download in the Downloads -> Downloads -> Supremacy folder, on the left -hand side of the page.

Please delete your existing version of Supremacy before you unzip this version. Failure to do so could lead to file conflicts and crashes.

Enjoy.

This version is the Christmas update; I only posted it for people who were unable to download the update for whatever reason. I had a few PM's from people or noticed that some others mentioned it in threads so I posted it so they could manually download the update themselves. If you've already got the christmas update, you've already got this version. Sorry about that, Jamie. :ahem:

Don't worry about it. I realized that after i actually started to play.

I noticed that you don't have a picture for Vissians, so i found one on the internet and here it is if you want to use it.

Oh, that's strange...i'll have to remember to add it into my next update when I send it to Mike. I only recently added the Vissians, so I must've missed it then. Thanks for that, Jamie.

Tks for the quick reply M_O_E, I thought the problem was mainly due to a bad installation of the Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 SP1..glad to hear others experienced the freezing problem as well.

I also tried to run the WolfesCombatSystemDemoDecember2008 but it doesn't let me play, it crashes to desktop.

It says:

Irrlicht.NET CP has received an unhandled exception
System.AccessViolationException: Attemped to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.
at IrrlichtNETCP.IrrlichtDevice.Device_SetCallback(IntPtr device, NativeEvent callback)

Windows Exception:

To me it's all gibberish, don't know what to re-install in order for the Demo UI to work. I know that the first Demo worked if I didn't add too many ships to it. Can you help me?

Tks
