Glad you got it working, but what do you mean about square torpedoes? The torpedoes look fine in my game...

In OpenGL, the engine is not capable to maintain quality. Ships are looking pixilated and torpedos squared. I had that problem too. The engine is only running in GUI mode when using OpenGL. But it runs when using Loading from Gamestate mode with DirectX. Such a great pic! if it wasn't for the too-low-resolution background pic. We definitely need a set of high-res new ones, do we .

Thierry41 wrote: Ok I figured out that i need to use Open GL instead of Direct X 9 It's working fine now...altho graphic wise it's a bit shall I say "square" photon torpedoe wise..but it's a nice demo. How about DirectX 8 ? Is it only when you run it in Direct X 9?, in Gamestate or normal GUI mode? OpenGL looks funky because it doesn't seem to handle transparency very well, so you see the torpedoes with the black background. Regards Wolfe

It is a seperate download to Supremacy and doesn't run in Vista, look in the downloads section of the main site for a link 'Combat Engine', or try in the 3D programs.... forum above this one.

Those are nice. Still it would be best if we record our own voice actors. I would not want to use know actors without their permission.

Glad you like the game so far . No, there is no AI yet. Multiplayer should work, though. At present, you can: - Build planetary structures, shipyards, ships, and space stations (using construction ships)
- Colonize new systems (using colony ships)
- Engage in round-based automated combat in multiplayer games (no 3D tactical combat yet)
- Research new technologies
- Upgrade planetary structures
- Engage in limited diplomacy (the recipient will always accept anything you send them, as there is no AI yet)
And a few important things that you can't do yet, even in multiplayer: - Invade or assault systems
- Win the game
I'll be working on those missing features soon. I've decided to refocus my short-term efforts on making multiplayer games more playable before spending any more time on the AI. I'm hoping if we can get a good number of people playing multiplayer games, we can put the game mechanics through some proper testing and smooth out the rough spots. That will ultimately save time and leave me in a better position to work on the AI.

A lobby system in the game itself might be a better way of doing it. Would it be possible to add one to the game, Mike? If people could see what games were in progress, they might be more inclined to join in.

Well i've got a ton of new images to send to Mike (Mainly ship images, but there's some structure images and updated minor race emblems too), and i've made some database updates to fix a few minor bugs. I'll start working on the ships and their stats soon as well.
As for what Mike is planing for the next update, only he knows...

I do 3D models, ships and stations, for the game. Wolfe uses the models in the 3D combat engine he is coding and MOE takes 2D images of the models, and everything else, to put in the Supremacy that Mike is coding. MOE is our general manager - he manages all the generals.
I also record some voice actors. This coming weekend my Federation voice actor will lay down some new tracks for the Combat engine. Zeleni and Trashman do 3D models as well and Zeleni has done a lot of 2D structure images. There have been others along the way but I hope I have not left out any of the big players.
We could always us help. If you want to learn GIMP and do 2D art or learn a model program and do 3D models please make it so.
Mike = Captain Wolfe = Number One MOE = Helmsman Kenneth = Chief Engineer .....

If people could see what games were in progress, they might be more inclined to join in. I've been considering this. I'm in the middle of some heavy modifications to the game client, so I might try to work in an internet-based lobby system while I'm in there. I could probably implement it in a day, and it would add a lot of bang for the buck.

I put some sounds together. I think some of them sounds awful but i did say i would send you whatever i had, so here it is. It is definitely not as good as the other voice actors you currently have. If they are not used, at least we will get a laugh out of them. I will see if i can make some better ones. This was my first attempt to create sound files.

Don't think your files aren't as good as what we already have, Jamie; you'd be surprised at what a little bit of editing in a sound program can do. In fact, I believe Kenneth has edited all of our existing voices already, which is why they sound so good. I'm not claiming to be any good at sound editing, but I had a go at Assimilating your Borg voices for you. The result isn't spectacular, but it literally only took me 5 minutes to do it with a free sound editing program. Anyone that really knows what they are doing or has professional sound editing software would be able to make it sound even better, so the quality of the sound files isn't really that important. Enjoy your assimilation.

Hey had a go at Supremacy for the first time, after finding it on the web. Always liked Birth Of The Federation so was looking foward to it, am definatly going to keep an eye on the game for updates (and play it of course). Just like you requested here briefly are my likes and dislikes...... Likes - More ship options than BOTF! Add more if you can without replicating ship functions. - Music. It sounds like a pro production. - Easy interface. Might just be me, but I found the interface smoother than the one in BOTF. - Multiplayer. Haven't tried it yet, but dang its a good idea. Dislikes - No AI. Your working on it so I will be patient. - More playable races. Not a major problem, but once the games up to Verson 1 maybe ad some more (Ferengi, Gorn, Tholians, Talarian Republic ect) - Some buildings/ships ect lacked images. Major annoyance, doesn't stop me playing the game but is annoying as hell! - Starbases more range. Just personel but outposts should be able to support ships over a wider area.

Welcome cultboy1984 @ Jamie11 Thanks Jamie11, I will be working with the files you have recorded. That may not happen until next week but I will get to it. I will be in Colorado this weekend recoding new lines from one of our former Federation voice actors. I hear your voice as being a captain for the Dominion and Romulan. It is my intent to have more than one voice actor providing lines for each races. That will make a fleet of ships sound more believable. We could use your voice in addition to those we already have for these races. Suggestions: Not so close to the microphone please. I hear your breath rushing past it on a few tracks. I use a headset microphone and put the microphone below my chin to keep it out of the rush of air from my mouth. Listen for other background noise as well. There was a background thump on one that sounded like hitting the microphone stand. Please do this: Go to SharePoint at http://www.botf2.com/default.aspxand take Shared Documents / Sound Recordings / Romulan / Rom Combat and listen to what is in each subfolder. Write down the lines. These are the lines intended for Wolfe's combat engine. I would like you to say these lines. If you want to reword some or add in a decloaking cloaking that will be great. Give it your Romulan arrogant tone. Keep them to one, two or at most three words as this need to be fast for combat. No sound effect or music as this comes from the combat engine. Do the same for the Dominion. Go to the dominion folders and listen to Wolfe's take on the Dominion voice. He has not yet recoded the combat lines so check the other folders. Give us your impression of that tone in a set of lines that parallel what you did for the Romulans. (One or two word lines that fit the same situations) The work you have recorded I will later upload to sound recordings. What we need most right now, however, is the combat lines above. Thanks.

Thank you for making my voice purtyful. Could you tell me where you found the free sound editing software. If i could get use to using it, i wouldn't need to waste your time making it better. About the microphone, it wasn't registering my voice from farther away. I guess i just put it a bit too close. Thank you for letting me help you guys out. Did you realize that the download on your homepage( www.startreksupremacy.com) is the older version from September of 2008? Just wanted to let you know.

Do you actually want sound for building and such. When would they be used? I am guessing they would be used between turns?

I like Wave Pad http://nch.com.au/index.html and it is out there as a free trial you can work with for a few days. Just use it to load up your recorded file. Keep some of the changes low key as it will start to sound too mechanical once your push things like a pitch change too far. I use some of there other products like the mixer for productions like what you can hear in the game trailer files. MOE may know more about the other sound needs. There has been talk about a greeting from each of the minor races. I had recorded introductions to all the minors on SharePoint in the past but it has not been used. Try putting the microphone close up but to the side or below your mouth and nose. Recording studios will use a screen to block that extra rush of air so if you want to go to all the trouble rig up a fin mesh screen.

I was going to suggest Wavepad as well Jamie - because that's the free program that I used to Borgify your voice. The introductions that Kenneth is referring to are the first contact messages that you get when you meet another race or empire. Since there are 150 minor races and 5 empires, thats 155 voiceovers that we would need - but as we would like to have a different version for each of the mpires, thats a potential 775 voiceovers! Obviously that would be a hell of a lot of work, so I seriously doubt we will go down that route. 155 voice samples is a much more manageable number, but it is still a lot of work, so it will be up to our vocie actors to decide if they want to do it or not. ...We didn't use use Kenneth's intros because A) Dafedz had already written 5 different intros for each of the 150 minors (One per empire) and B) I forgot about Kenneth's intros when I was implementing the minor races. As for the download being out of date on the Supremacy site, that's JeanNYGUARD's fault. He's supposed to be maintaining the site but he's not doing a good job of it. He says he updated the link but obviously he hasn't.
