I've been fiddling with the current version and there's two things I can't figre out.

First, how do I build an Outpost?

Second, how do I redeploy ships to combine into Task Forces?

I don't see a tooltip anywhere for either function. Am I missing something? :(

Edit: Oh, and how do I use credits to "buy" something that I'm building?

First, You need to build a construction ship then right click on the ship when its at the location you want to build at.

Second, When you have at least two ships at one location click on it, then at the bottom left of the screen click "redeploy ships" button.

And i guess this feature hasn't been implemented yet as i havn't found it.

Hey LeadFingers, welcome to the forums! :)

Kev is correct about building the Outposts; you need Construction ships to build them now. Transports are for invading systems with.

I've just sent an update to Mike, which, amongst other things, includes a new upgrade path system for the Outposts. I haven't updated the Starbases yet as I want to make sure the system actually works. Mike hasn't read the PM yet and it will likely be a few weeks before he can implement it on the update server though.

As for redeploying, Kev is also right about that. There is a redeploy button at the bottom of the screen. Click it, and you'll see all of the ships in the system in a BOTF-style redeploy screen. It even works in the same way; double-click a ship to add or remove it from a fleet. The screen has one important addition though; from this screen, you can rename ships! Just single-click a ship on the screen, and it will show up in a larger box. Click on its' name and you can enter anything you want as its' name.

As for buying buildings, you can't do that. We will eventually implement a system where you can increase the build rate by paying the workers to do doubl;e-shifts, but instant-build will NOT be in the game. This particular idea has been discussed on the forums for four years now, and the eventual decision was that people didn't want instant-build in the game.

Let us know if you have any other questions. :)

Ah, Task Forces work...thanks :)

But...I don't see an Construction Ship for either my Dominion, or Romulan games. Also, if we don't use our Credits to buy stuff, what *do* we use them for?

:)

You don't see construction ships for those races simply because they haven't been added in - yet. The non-Federation races were only recently added to the game, and as there is no game AI yet, the other races didn't *need* to have construction ships. Since people can now play as those races though, i'll add them in as part of the next update.

Credits are used to pay for the maintenance costs of your fleets. You *will* also be able to spend credits on boosting build rates - like i said, you can make your workers do double-shifts by paying them to do so. But this will only increase the build rate; it certainly won't be an instant build feature. This is also yet to be implemented in the game.

Good answer!

Now my only problem is that even though I've declared war on the Fedy's, I can't invade them. For that matter, they (and the Cardassians) aren't building any ships and they haven't left thier homeworld. Weird.

:O

Thanks!

Those are simple points to answer. Invading systems hasn't been implemented in the game yet, and the game has no Artificial Intelligence (AI) yet - so the other races quite literally don't even know how to think, let alone build stuff or feed themselves.

The AI will be the single most complicated to program part of the game, and will need a lot of tweaking and balancing before it works correctly. Mike has barely even started programming it, and is currently concentrating on other parts of the game (Like bug fixing) at the moment, so we won't have even a basic AI for a long time to come i'm afraid.

ahhhh, so when the download said "alpha", it really meant ALPHA. :)

I need to ratchet back my expectations then. Thanks!

Yes it does mean Alpha...but that doesn't mean ratcheting back your expectations full stop. It just means...delaying their expression until the AI is ready. :P
