Hi sorry about the nova been a bit to poly.... i was looking at the wrong count..... you should have no problems when you get to the other vessel i made as it less than the poly limit.

I am having trouble with the remaining vessels that neeed doing like the minor races as i am finding pictures of them very difficult to find.

If there is any chance that somone could sketch the vessels so i can see side front rear top and bottom then i will be able to make them, or any other let me know.

I can make a vessel in 2-4 days if i have the correct pictures of it. :winkthumb:

The shiplist only has one Galaxy in it Trashman, so there's no room for two models. That doesn't mean you can't make both if you want to, it just means one of them will have to be in the official game whilst the other will have to be released as a mod. Very, very few of the ships get upgrades of any kind. The B'rel and the Constitution are the most obvious ones. People would crucify us for not having the Connie refit! 8O

They are the exceptions though. Not even the Excelsior gets an upgrade, it is simply replaced by the next ship in it's type (Which for the Excelsior in the game is the Intrepid)

If you've lost your Sharepoint password, send a PM/email to Mike. Alternatively send the files to someone else who does have an account (Mike, me, Kenneth...) and we can upload it there for you.

...

Starfan, many of the models that the minor races have been assigned don't actually exist - we made them up for the purposes of the game, which is why you can't find any pictures or descriptions. These races *should* technically have ships, we just haven't seen them on tv or film, so we haven' just randomly assigned non-canon ships for no reason. For these designs, just let your imagination go wild. You could even do some research on the race in question if it helps - find out what their tech is like, if they use any particular weapons, (Ie. Phaser/Disruptor/Polaron, Photon/Ion/Plasma/Quantum Torpedoes .etc) what their fighting style is like (Fight vs run, long-range attacks vs dog fighting, etc) what types of energy sources they use, what their planets look like, whether they have a large and well funded fleet, that sort of thing. All of this information can help you to form an idea of what their ships *might* look like if they had been shown on tv or in the films. The most important thing to remember is that you can't be criticised for not creating a model that looks exactly as it did on tv/in films because the model *hasn't* been on there!

You can do research on this type of info on sites such as Memory Alpha, Memory Beta, and Ex Astris Scientia. There are plenty of other sites out there, but those three are pretty much the best you'll find.

...If you think it is too much work though, then you don't have to make any models. There's no pressure on you to make the models, especially since we're not paying you! We'll be counting the second til you reveal your new designs if you do make them though! :bigthumb:

I know. But I just noticed that there is quite a gap in tech between a Galaxy (tech 8) and a Sovereign (tech 11).
The Galaxy is said to be the most sucessfull starship class ever produced by the federation, so a slight upgrade seems kinda right to me

It appears from changes to my post above that you, or someone, now has
access to edit my posts. Please be careful if you did not intend to change what I
said or ask first if you do. Thanks. :borg:

I see what you mean about the changes you mentioned in your PM now, Kenneth. It's nothing to do with me Mal, I checked the moderator logs and Trashman was the most recent person to make any edits to this thread. I gave Trashman some limited moderation powers for the jobs forum yesterday. He probably just clicked the wrong button or something.

LOL...how did that happen? Man, something is really wrong with me to hit edit instead of quote!

Or did I hit edit? Heck, I have no idea what I exactly did. I'm sorry guys. Didn't even know I was given moderating powers. It won't happen again.

I thought it might be a mistake.

Now that we have SharePoint back I guess we
can link our image library png to MOE's page
one post in this thread here. We do not have
to use my list anymore now that we have
SharePoint and this thread going.

@Trashman: I have been making the rar model files
on SharePoint by compressing a folder containing
the model files. You can see the naming convention
there when you go to upload. The 270x225 png images (on
a transparent background) now go in the folder
Shared Documents, 3D models, In Game PNG Images.
The image library is not for us in the game but I put
a copy of the png image there on a black background
so we can see what it will look like in game.

If you can not find a point of reference you might ask about it here. Sometimes other will be able to
link to a helpful image. In the end make something up that looks cool.

The klingon Scorpion class scout looks like a Negh'Var on steroids, and it looks HUGE.

the romulan shiplist needs work...Huur.. I'll get around to re-arranging some of the images and names. And where's my Romulan Heavy Destroyer I made? And where is the Nierrh?

Thanks for checking in. I am busy with a Star Trek related video project that should wind up this weekend. There is some work to do on taxes and then it is back to minors for me as well. :borg:

I like that Trash. They look good. When you get
around to loading the .rar model file, in game PNG
images and image library photos lets just add into the
collection on SharePoint. Do not delete any at this point.
Just call the new model a Version 2 for that class of ship.
I, or someone else, may want to have the old ship available to
re-work for a minor race. Leave it to the guy that put the
model online to deal with the old ship. Also, In the event that
we or others disagree about the changes, all the versions will
still be on SharePoint.

I say that in the event of a disagreement the guy loading the
models into the game gets to choose. Anyone can mod their
game any way they want from all the model versions we leave on
SharePoint.

Speaking of which, all models in sharepoint should ben amed differently.

like, CLASS NAME (BREL, KTINGA). That's pretty distinctive and immediately gives you an idea what the ships is.

Things like DESTROYERIII- no. It could be anything. Not to mention that we may have multiple candidates for a destroyer 3, or that the current one will end up changed, and this just messes thing sup.

connecting a class to a specific race ship slot is easier than mucking around, searching for what is what...

The class names have already been decided on Trashman, that's why they've been named that way; Kenneth hasn't been randomly assigning the classes, they've were discussed on the forums over the last four years, then Dafedz compiled the list based on the final decisions. Check out Dafedz's Shiplist if you want more info.

Obviously people will always have their own opinions, so not everyone will be happy with the list, but the list we came up with was the best fit into what the majority of people wanted. Any additional ships will be kept so that people can create their own mods later on.

You obviously don't understand what I was talking about. Maybe I didn't explain myself properly.

AFAIK, the resources on Sharepoint are not only for Supremacy, but also for other ST games, right?

Naming a download Destroyer III is at best confusing. Which ship is Destroyer III? I'm suggesting naming all files on Sharepoint to be more recognizable.. like Vorcha1 or Dderidex.
After all, there is only 1 Vor'Cha or D'Deridex and every trekkie knows what it looks like by name alone.
Destroyer III? There's a lot of trek ships that can fill that role.
Not to mention that game development is a fluid job and prone to many changes. So whatever shiplist is there, saying it's is final and that there won't be any changes is more a hope than a fact. Not even big companies like Bioware are immune to many tweaks and changes.
If you change the Destroyer III to some other ship class, now you've got a wrong ship listed on sharepoint, altough the name seemingly fits.

Lastly, no offense to anyone who compiled the shiplist, but the models chosen in quite a few cases just don't make sense.
You got a NeghVar on steroids serving as a klingon scout! A destroyer-sized ships serving as a heavy cruiser!

I'm trying to put some common sense in the shiplist.

maybe use both classifications like "K'Vort class S1" where S1 stands for Scout I.

Mike is paying for SharePoint. He setup sections for the other games besides Supremacy. We have benefited from sharing resources with other games.

I am currently working on the shiplist developed for Supremacy. I name ships from that list. When the Defiant is assigned to Federation Escort the names are interchangeable. The name you see when playing can still be Defiant even though it is loaded on the back-end as Escort.

If you want to make your own list or your own game please do. You can copy and use content I have added. Do not delete or change models or my post as written or uploaded unless I say you can.

I suggest, Trashman, that you make your own shiplist and fill it and name it as you see fit. You are welcome to use what I have uploaded as you see fit. Just leave the original as is.

Yes, the names are interchangable, but it more confusing.

A ship class name always stays the same. A Vor'Cha will ALWAYS be a Vor'Cha and instantly recognizable.
A ship ROLE NAME is a different thing, since there are several ship classes that can fill that role.
I you go to the download site and see VorCha, you instantly know what it is. If you go and see Destroyer II, you end up thinking "wait a minute..what ship was that again? The R'tan or the D'Bora?"

I'm speaking simply from the sake of simplicity and organization, since class name is a unique identifier, while a role name isn't. It's just a suggestion anyway. Keep sharepoint organized however you want.

Also, you don't have to worry - I'm not touching any files on sharepoint. I'm only re-arranging the shiplist images so that models better correspond to the role/size in question. This is something that needs to be done for consistency..and because common sense dictates so.

MOE spent four years on that list and has his reasons for naming ships that way. We should not change it for him without his agreement.

What do you mean that we've got a Negh'Var on steroids as the Klingon Scout, Trashman? All three of the Klingon Scouts are variants of the B'rel, so there can't be anything wrong there. I've even just checked the images to make sure, and they're definitely correct, so I don't understand what you're referring to.

I'm certainly not averse to tweaks and changes as you suggest though - in fact you would be surprised at just how many changes that i've suggested making to Dafedz and Kenneth via PM's in the last month alone. We've all doing a lot of work on the shiplist, the models, the database, the stats, and the implementation in the background. And as for the problem with the Destroyer that you mentioned, I actually agree with you: in fact, I can see other reasons for moving it around on top of those reasons you've already suggested; the bluey-green colour of the hull and the similarity of the Nacelles to Federation ones (You can just about see the right Nacelle on the left of the image, just under the ship) for instance, which instantly places it as a post-TNG era ship. If we are to move one ship though, another needs to be moved to fill the newly-empty place again, otherwise we'll end up losing one model AND need to make another to fill the empty slot, which would be pointless and wasteful.

The main reason for the current naming convention is to make my life easier, since i'm the one that is implementing the ships in the game. The Supremacy database requires the names to be set out in a certain way; it can only be names or classes. I've experimented with having both but there simply isn't enough display room in the game. However, if you have one, then you have to lose the other completely, so it can only be names or classes. The models and images follow this convention simply to ensure they don't get mixed up with the images and model files for other ship designs.

I'm experimenting with making some changes to this convention, and i've had some ideas for improving it - but i'll need Mike to make some changes to the editor in order to implement them. Mike is currently working on version 3 of the editor, and has discontinued development of the existing editor for this reason - but editor 3 isn't yet ready, so it might not be implemented for a long while. The ships do need to have have both sets of information though - class names and types/roles so that they can be given specific uses, such as giving command ships the ability to command. Therefore whilst the convention may change, it will only be because the way information is displayed will change.

If you wish to make changes to the shiplist or naming conventions, please discuss these changes with myself and Kenneth first. If you make any changes to the models, you'll only make life harder for Kenneth because he will need to track both your new convention and be able to guide me to the right images for the models, and if you make any changes to the images, you'll break all the 280 image links that i've posted in this thread. It would also make life difficult for me with the editor. Please use your editing powers wisely.

Look at the first post with all the images.
The Scorpion class - look like a Negh'Var, but a bit more streamlines, with some big cannons and you can see hunderds of tiny windows on it, which makes it look AT LEAST as big as a Negh'Var, if not bigger. I cand definately see it as a klingon supership of a sorts.

As I said before - I haven't and do not plan to touch ANYTHING on sharepoint.
The ONLY thing I edited were the images on the first few posts of this thread, to link role, class and ship model together.
And I never removed any ship - I just shuffled them a bit. I did add another category for the romulas tough. we got many destroyer models, so I didn't know where to put one. I added Destroyer IV. The shiplist in this thread is temporary anyway, so I figured it's no big deal.

EDIT: Well damn crap! I did it again!

MoE, how about you remove these mod powers before I hit EDIT again, thinking it's my own previous post I'm modifying?
I'll just make another thread with a copy of the shiplist. It's easier... for the both of us.

EDIT2: Ha! managed to get your post back..

I think BOTF used names like scout, destroyer
and cruiser because most people playing do
not know the other names like Vor'Cha. They
do know what a scout is for.

I wasn't talking about the in-game name or the shiplist name (since both can contain all the data you want and need anyway) - I was only talking about the mesh files themselves.

You know, like Vorcha.3ds...

I've removed your moderator privileges as requested Trashman. No more annoying buttons for you!

If the naming problem is specifically regarding the model files, then it's up to Kenneth how he names those, just as long as the images remain attached to the correct models. I've sent a PM to Mike now anyways asking for him to change the way the game and editor handle the names, so fingers crossed he'll do something about it.

Well, basicely the image names should be the same.

Ya know..Vorcha.3ds and Vorcha.jpg... and you know it's the attack cruiser for the game anyway. Heh..maybe a bit too much work re-naming half the files for too little gain.

To be honest not everyone will know the Vorcha is the attack cruiser.
