I put a temporary texture on the Hazari Cruiser that Starfan made for us. It is uploaded so you can use it in game until there is time to retexture.

MOE, you noted in the 2D image thread about not having room for extra images at 270 x 225.

If we are that tight on space for files in the game we may need to take a second look at ship models. One model can be a few orders of magnitude larger than a single 2d image at 270 x 225. If we need to the minor races could share a common colonyship or even cruiser and surveyor model. We can also dump images showing damage if that will not be used in our combat engine. I have left those files in the uploads to SharePoint but this could be removed to save space.

You misinterpreted me, Kenneth. I meant that having more images would increase bandwidth etc purely as a fact - not that such an increase in itself is a problem for us. I was merely thinking of people with slower internet connections or small hard drives - more files means longer downloads for them or them having to find more room on their hard drives. To my knowledge, Mike's servers, Sharepoint, and the forums have all got plenty of bandwidth at the moment, so pump out all the models and images you can.

It was a busy week so this is all I have to show. Fireball, however, is working up a set of ships for us to use. That will help a lot.

Ooh that looks like the Archangel class that I downloaded once from Battleclinic for SFC2, but I could never get it to work correctly so I never saw it ingame.

I'll post the images tomorrow. I've been busy saving files from Filefront for Armada and typing up the forum rules for our new mod site, and i'm knackered now.

MOE - there was an extraneous line at the bottom of the image for the KesPrytt Frigate. I updated the transparent png image for them on SharePoint to remove that defect. Please update the load for the game.

Do you have a list of where all of the models came from? I'm compiling an updated credits list for Mike, so I want to make sure everyone who needs to be in it is in it.

...So if anyone else wants to make any ship models or improve the textures for our existing models, you'll be listed in the credits too!

There is a list on SharePoint under 3D models. Also each model that came with a credit text file still has it on SharePoint in the .rar.

We have Vaadwaur and Kriosian Cruisers, Bilanaian Destroyer, Evora Surveyor, Ledosian Frigate and Nezu Colonyship.

I have replaced the Kes Prytt Frigate with this



I moved the old model over to T'Rogoran Transports I and II.

That new Kesprytt Frigate looks kinda like an Arwing from the Starfox games, although it's lots its' wings and the nose cone has been sliced in half. Damn I love the Starfox games. Do a Barrel Roll!

@ MOE, how do you want the Borg cylinder, sphere, diamond and coffin scaled relative to the cube and say galaxy class federation starship? I have an good idea of what the galaxy looks like next to the cube but what about the other borg ships?

all those newer models looks great. i already think that some of the old models you show us looks a bit ugly. in that case its nice to see the new ones. great work

We're hoping that the models will improve over time as the modellers gain in confidence in the use of whatever programs they use to make and texture he models. I'm glad you can see the improvement over time, Zulnak.

Kenneth, there will always be people who believe individual designs should be bigger or smaller than whatever size we choose to have them at. I personally like the scaling of the ships in the Aftermath mod for Star Trek: Legacy though. They've actually got a whole ton of Borg designs, and each of the designs has three different models to reflect advancing Borg tech across the main Trek eras (TOS, TNG, Nemesis) - so you can see how the Borg ships have developed over time. You might be able to make your own versions of their models. (They're designed to be high poly because that's what Legacy needs)

The Borg designs that Aftermath have include:

Pyramid (3 versions)
Sphere (3 versions)
Rectangle (3 versions) [I called it a "Coffin" in my shiplist]
Obelisk (3 versions)
Diamond (3 versions)
Cube (3 versions)
Tactical Cube (1 version)

I know that we've got a huge amount of models in the shiplist already, so i'm not going to force you or anything...but more Borg designs would be nice...

Anyways, I personally think the Cube should be huge - at least several times the size of the Sovereign. The Tactical Cube would be a tad large than a Cube to account for the extra hull armor, The Diamond should be about the size of a Sovereign, the Sphere should be about the size of an Intrepid, and the "Coffin" should be about the size of a Nova class.

Let the arguments over size begin.

Oh, forgot about the Cylinder.

I imagine the Cylinder would be about 2-3 times the length of the Rectangle, which is about the size of a Nova class (Which is 180m). So that's 360-540m, making it around the length of the Ambassador class. (Which is 526m long)

OK, we have a Borg Diamond, Rectangle, Tholian Colonyship I, II and III, Bothan Surveyor, Kreetassan Surveyor and Denobulan Transport.

Images added, Kenneth, but I wasn't able to find the image for the Bothan Suveyor. I did see an image for a Bothan Destroyer though - is that the intended image?

You got me there. There is no Bothan Surveyor. It is a Destroyer.

That brings up the issue of model errors. I expect to be bug fixing when the time comes to deal with the 3D models in game. Hopefully it will mostly be scale and glow file naming convention.

I will be on Holiday and then a work trip until next week. It is unlikely you will see any new ships from me until then. I will try to check in when I can. Please cover for me.
