Without checking I do the models and graphics on a combination of a slow old laptop when on the road and a slow old PC at home. It is nice to have a game PC for Supremacy and I have that as well. To building content it does not take anything special.

We've got an old old thread dedicated to computer stats buried somewhere. Here's my own stats though since i've upgraded a few componenets since then: Advent T9003 (Almost 6 years old, bought from PC World at a bargain price coz it was an ex-display model) Pentium 4 540 Processor @ 3.207Ghz 1Gb RAM (Upgraded from 512mb, not further slots available) Sapphire Radeon HD3850 512mb AGP Graphics Card (Upgraded from a Radeon X1650 Pro 512mb AGP card that died, which itself was an upgrade from two Radeon 9250 128mb Cards that also died) A ton of other things have died on me over the years. I don't have much luck with computers. Just ask any of the other forum veterans, they know how frequently I go offline due to failed components. I want an Alienware.

Starfleet Command 3 has been out for a long time, Tarek. I haven't played it myself because of what i've heard about it. The complex interface has gone in favour of customisable starships. Apaprently you just control weapons and the engines and thats about it. The main reason why I loved SFC2 was the complex interface and control over virtually any starship system. SFC3 is based around Nemesis time as well, so you play with Sovereigns and Akiras instead of Constitutions and Excelsiors. Filefront have an Entire Section dedicated to SFC3, and a Google product search has the cheapest price at £24.99...assuming you're going to acquire it legally. ...If you didn't know about SFC3, then you definitely don't know that Dynaverse Are Working On SFC4. From what i've heard about it, it won't be a commerical release as with the other games, it will be more our like own projects - freely downloadable for a website. Apparently you will be able to choose between a simple or complex interface, and the graphics are going to be as good as they can make them.

If you really want Windows 7 bad, you can download the Release Candidate for free from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/download.aspx, but it's still not the final version so try at your own risk. I do have a copy running on a Virtual Machine and it does seem pretty nice. The University discounts on Microsoft products that I can get are amazing. Windows Vista for $15 and Office 2007 Enterprise for free!

Windows 7 is good enough that you don't really need to worry about a virtual machine. The speed and stability is impressive; the Beta was far better than any OS beta I've used from MS before and I've had zero problems with the RC. The RC feels like its production ready, and I'd never go back to Vista or even XP.
I'm running it on all my machines now, even my old laptop which could just barely run Vista with all visuals off.
