We know what many of the ships should look like based on this or that ST episode. There are other sites that list the ship of ST. Only a fraction of them are available as 3ds models for use in our combat engine.
Working at the current level of production it would take over 13 years to complete the ships list. We are using what we have until better models become available.

You can't post links from Ex Astris Scientia. They have a hotlink block. You'll either have to post a link to the main page that a thumbnail for the image was located on, or paste the file and reupload it to an image hosting site. (Which you technically shouldn't do, but meh)

Hirogen Heavy Cruiser. This model is OK but the two we have for the earlier Hirogen cruisers will have to be replaced. You can see images of the Federation Starbases we have as models so far on page one of this thread.

How long does it usually take to create a model of any given ship class?

It can take me up to a month to build one from scratch depending on the complexity. Most of what you see on-line now were built by others. It can take about an hour to convert most models into a fully loaded version we can use in our game. If there are modification needed it will take longer.

The "Q" model Hello, I would have an idea to propose you for the "Q" model. In the first TNG episode " Encounter at Farpoint ", Q stopped the USS ENTERPRISE with by an enormous field of strength in the form of railing and pursued it in the form of sphere with a light in the center. I think that would be needed an a little more resembling model of a railing in the form of sphere.

That is a good suggestion and an easy model to build. I will try to put something together this weekend, Q willing.

Do you have any images of Q in that early non human form? I recall him showing up as a blinding flash of light from a point source in many episodes. Is that the way we see him here?

I thought about that radiant and mostly vertical flair thing but can not make it do that in the model. We could make the 2D image that way if it is going to be used on the map view and not as a model. I am not sure how we would use Q as a model any way. Was he going to show up during combat?

I think “Q” coming to the picture does not necessarily have to be a bad thing; some good has come of “Q”. My suggestion would be to Mike have “Q” be a random event, however assign maybe undisclosed amount of mini events around him. so you will never know what to except.

Looks good - I saved it to Sharepoint. I have been going over the background work done so far by the artist Slim for our game. He is working with Mike and MOE on some new mission plans. Here is a link to his work on facebook.

If i'd read your post before I read the PM then I wouldn't have a clue what you were talking about, Kenneth. I've never even heard of Slim before today. I've got Q in as a random event, but to be honest you could have absolutely anything happen and be able to blame it on Q. There are just soo many different possibilities with him. Quote: Q A ship is thrown to a random sector. The ship will have to attempt to make it back under its' own fuel reserves, so making alliances with the locals will be essential. The chances of contact with the Borg - irrelevant of where in the Galaxy the ship is sent - are greatly increased. Space is full of strange, new, lifeforms. Our vessel in sector _____ has encountered an omnipotent lifeform known simply as "Q". The lifeform used his wondrous powers to instantaneously send our vessel to the other side of the Galaxy, and then the entity simply disappeared. The vessel will get its wish; the crew will surely encounter strange, new, worlds on its journey home...God speed to them, wherever they may be. Nargh! An alien entity known as "Q" intruded the IKC _____ and had the gall to insult the commander's house. The commander rightfully challenged the entity...but perhaps for once the commander was a fool to exercise his right to challenge those that insult his house, for contact was suddenly lost with the vessel. A deep space relay station recorded a brilliant, unexplained flash of energy in the area at the moment that contact was lost. No debris or survivors have been detected. The fleet is now on maximum alert for this dishonourable P'tach! R C D

Slim, a professional artist, has worked on a number of game project for real game companies. In keeping with that way of doing business concept ideas are not put out on a public forum. Unlike him I have put all my work out so far. As he is providing his work to us for free I will honor his request to deal with his work in private. His contributions will appear without altering the contribution of Val and others.
He is doing a number of large backdrop images for us that will appear briefly in there own subsection of the game interface. The work of Val and others will not have to blend with it. The random events, structure, models and other images stand on their own.
Slim has played a role in some of Mike's secret plans and Slim is part of the reason they are secret.

So how do we plan to handle the sphere builders' sphere as a model?
It is on the list of models under Alien Entities, Structures and Monsters. As the models are for the combat engine will or can the combat engine use a sphere model?
Given that the sphere would be about as larger as the diameter of earth's orbit it could be a wall at one end of the skybox in the combat engine or just in the texture of the skybox without a model at all. In the latter case it would not need a model. As a wall it would end at the skybox and look funny unless it was carefully lined up with the skybox texture.

You're right, we would need at least a moon-sized model, and that just wouldn't be feasible. The easiest thing to do would be to remove them completely, but not everyone would like that. It would be nice to have them in the game *somehow* though.
There is one alternative that wouldn't require a model but still have them in the game. We could ask Slim and .Iceman how they feel about making them part of the new feaure...

If we attach the random event to a sector of space on the map it might be possible to have a special skybox texture just for the sphere. We can have wolfe take a look when the time comes. Vulcan Battleship I think this may be all of the minor race models then. Check for me please and see if I missed some. There are 236 minor race models on SharePoint. A lot of weak models can still be replaced before beta testing. In the mean time we have a full set of at least something to test on the combat engine in game. Next are the monsters and alien its.

I noticed this kind of Klingon ship, it's on Enterprise's Episode "Bounty". Can you add it? http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Goroth%27s_starship

Adding a model depends on whether we can actually find or make a model of the design in question, and whether we have room to add it into the existing shiplist. Since Kenneth has now finished acquiring models for the empires, it's unlikely, although not impossible, that a model will be replaced with a completely different design. In fact, based on the time period of the design, the only place I could suggest where it *might* be possible to include it is as a replacement for the Vornak class Surveyor I, and I personally don't think there is anything wrong with the existing model. Since Kenneth is the master of the models though, it's ultimately his choice.

Thanks Starfleet and that is a great ship. What we need is a ship that is available as a 3D model that we can convert to our .3ds formate. Lacking that we will need to build one ourselves. For now I am working on some other models we need but will keep it in mind.

It is a simple observation Kenneth. The model that Your selected for the Zibalian is a Nyrian model http://www.neutralzone.de/database/Alien/Delta/NyrianVessel.htmand the Zibalian real model is http://www.neutralzone.de/database/Alien/Alpha/ZibalianTradeVessel.htm--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Do you think it is easy to manufacture the vessel Farpoint? It could also be useful for Random Events (kind of encounter with Gomtuu, for example) http://www.neutralzone.de/database/SpaceLife-Form/FarpointStation.htmhttp://www.neutralzone.de/database/SpaceLife-Form/LFarpointShip01.jpg--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What do you think about this Romulan ship Drone? http://www.neutralzone.de/database/Alien/Beta/RomulanDrone.htm
