I'm seeing a lot of potential weapon locations on the Tonga. It looks like it could be a Cardassian counterpart to the Federation Akira class. The non-uniformity of the design separates it from most other ship designs as well. Nice. :cool:

I agree with Kenneth about the Norin as well. Yellows and Browns are the Cardies choices in colour. The Norin is a little too...whatever colour it is lol. I hope you don't mind, but I played around with the image a little to see if I could adjust it to a more Cardassian-y colour as a possible guide for your own editing. This is what I came up with:

you guys did a good job on this one. However, I make a suggestion to improve the aesthetic of BOTF 2.

The data base balance calls for only one model of Cardassian construction ship. If we find the game needs that kind of change during play testing we can add it in. We will keep an eye on it.

29BQ, the Vulcans will be one of the most powerful minor races in the game, and for that reason they will have one of the most diverse fleets. However, we also have to be mindful that more models means more work for the modellers and texturers, not to mention the increase in the download and hard drive requirements for players, and the bandwidth needed to support the downloads.

As it currently stands in the database, the Vulcans will have one Surveyor and two Cruiser type vessels. We've also more recently decided to give them three Colony ship designs. To reduce the workload, we've decided that the minor race Colony ships will use the same model but each Colony Ship type will get progressively more detailed or differently coloured hull textures. We've also decided that we won't have fighters in the game because they will simply be too small to see or easily command. Small ships will likely be scaled up in size to make the game more playable. I believe the Cardassian Hideki class will be the smallest ship in the game. This in turn means there won't be any Carriers either, since there won't be anything for them to carry.

However, we have managed to acquire more models than the Vulcan fleet size, so it may change in the future. We've also got a load of Vulcan models from ZDarby that as far as I know haven't been looked at yet. Have you been able to use his models at all, Kenneth?

For reference, these are the models that we currently have. JUST BECAUSE A MODEL IS IN THIS LIST DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN IT WILL BE USED IN THE GAME.

Now personally, I think these models are much better than anything you've posted above, 29BQ. In fact, I think some of the models you've posted are ugly. It's hard to tell when the images are so small though. But obviously this is my personal preference and others may feel differently. If you have any models that we can actually use (As in permission is given) then please send them to Kenneth_of_Borg as he is our resident modeller. He may even be able to create his own models using the images as a basis for the physical design.

As for the Construction ships, yes we will eventually come up with upgrades for the other empires, but the Federation Construction Ship II was only originally implemented for testing purposes. That's why the Federation have two ships and the others do not. We wanted to make sure the station construction programming was working correctly. Obviously those plans have stalled slightly now that station construction has bugged on us, but once that's fixed we can start testing again.

The most important thing that needs to be sorted is the balance as well. Anyone that managed to build a station before the May update will know how excruciatingly long it took to build a station, and this is purely down to balance. We will be able to come up with more realistic numbers to ensure the stations take a bit of time to build, but that it won't be hundreds of turns. We've also reminded Mike about the current lack of multi-ship construction abilities so that should speed thing sup once it is implemented.

It still won't make sense that the Empires are building massively advanced stations with ships that are based on technology that is hundreds of years out of date though, so yes, for this reason we will eventually come up with some upgrades. But this will only be once the bugs are fixed and we know what sort of balance is needed in the game. We coincidentally have a potential model for the Cardassian Construction Ship II as well, although we may instead use it for the Cardassian Mothball Yard. We haven't decided whether to give this structure a model or not.

Oh yes. We lost that one in a prior crash. I am so glad you still have it. If you would post it up to SharePoint I can make sure things like the png are in the correct place. Then I will add it to my full model backup on the memory stick.

ZDarby's models are located BQ. There aren't just Vulcan models, there are models for other races too. I'm not a modeller so have never viewed them though - I don't know how to.

There is one thing you need to be aware of. ZDarby has given permission for his models to be used only by Supremacy. Please do not attempt to use them for any other projects as doing so would be stealing.

I have a little comment to make about the Federation construction ships. Logically and if I am not mistaken, Starfleet vessels are equipped with workbees to build space structures.

This is a simple render of the Crystalline Entity. I will upgrade the image before I load the in-game version. The lighting needs work for one thing. I have figured out how to get the central glow that it always has. I have to see if this feature will work in .3ds. At least the transparent crystal material should work in our format. You could see a ship behind it. I will try to work that into the in-game render. I think it should be set at about the size of one of the outposts.

I wonder how you did center glow, as you said it's not photoshop trick i assume that you created another spherical object in middle with own texture or you expanded illumination texture of central part of mesh to nearby space, how you did it? :shifty:

It's so realistic that i can't help myself it's defently best work I'v seen on this forums and I'm here since 2004. Bravo! once again.

Zeleni is right this is FANTASTIC work Kenneth. If, as you say, you're going to improve it further, then it's going to be utterly astounding when it's complete. People are going to get goosebumps when they go up against the Crystalline Entity for the very first time. This is fantastic work and you should be proud of it because we certainly are. :bigthumb:

Thanks but before we get all gushy about it remembers this is in blender format. I have found that a lot of Blender features will not transfer or translate into .3ds. One of the final steps will be to see how much I can make it look like this in .3ds.

To answer your question about the glow: There is no texture, image texture or otherwise. It is all done with the properties of the material. Blender has one setting called halo. Along the core of the crystal there are four small simple mesh shapes each with the halo property applied. This give off the glow appearance into the surrounding space. I hope to come as close to this as I can in .3ds with the use of a sphere and emission as you suggest.

Blender has it's own game engine where we could use blender features. I wish we could us it as our combat engine.

Good point. I left the planet out of the in-game version. It will only show up in our reference version here and in the list on page one of this thread. It is subtle at best to make out the transparent quality of the crystal I wanted to demonstrate.
