From BOTF? I've manually trawled through every image in stbof.res and i've not seen the first two images ever before. To my knowledge, there are only two structure images in there that are unused, and that's these two: There certainly aren't any images in the game that are as large as the ones you've displayed either. The third image is the Cardassian Obsidian Order, and its associated image is much, much smaller than that. So Matress is confused as to where these images have come from.

vjeko1701 wrote: I know they are from BOTF, but they are not used in BOTF so with artist's permission we could use them. I recently wrote an email to the botf building graphics and UI skins creator (google "klingon UI" for example and you find his site; I asked him for the copyright status of botf Klingon UI and my adaption of it for BotE), and he wrote me the following: Quote: I cannot grant permission since I have no ownership of the art. It may belong to Atari, I actually have no idea who ended up with the rights to all the old Microprose games. Using the actual artwork could raise eventual copyright problems even if it's all freeware. If you give credit, give it as the source of inspiration. I am gratified that there are so many people that are still even aware of BOF and are fans of the artwork. bottom line, even if it's "unused" in botf by the program itself, as long as it's shipped with the game's installer, it is used. Reason for example could be a later-on still possible patch that enables these graphics to be shown in-game, et voilà. Also what you see here is that he - even as the one who made all the graphics - has no copyright ownership for it since he sold them to the company back then. btw. captain andrew said something about supremacy in a top games list in another thread, well, originally this Adrian Werner guy had it first, in his 2009 list, now he has put it in the 2010 one: http://adrianwerner.wordpress.com/games-of-2010/ . Google lists a lot of "mirror" sites which have copied this list into their own blog or website.

Ah i've never opened alt.res. I might just need to go through it as well then...
It's interesting to hear that the old artists are still around, Mal. And that post definitely clears things up. It might be an idea posting it in the staffroom or something so we can maintain a record of it, like an official correspondence thread or something.
I'm gonna have to contact IGN though about their Supremacy info though. They've got some mistakes in the review. I've had to do this before now for a couple of websites.

Here are some Pics I've modified.
I didn't know who made them so I couldn't ask for permission. I've changed the sky color behind Halkan dilithium cracking station to purple because in the episode it is clearly shown that their planet has purple sky. I've also changed the sky behind Aquatic deuterium plant to blue because the orange one didn't fit to oceanic or terran planet (if I remember correctly that structure can oly be built on that types of planets)

I'm not sure where Zeleni got the images - whether he made them or acquired them. Either way, i'm not sure if we have permission to make changes to the images or simply to just use them, Vjeko. We're gonna have to check that first.

Theoretically, no matter where Zeleni got the images, if you modify them, and then save them as something different, then they are something different. Since you have created something different, you have become the author of the new pics. Therefore, nobody can pop up out of the blue and tell you that you can't use those images, since you modified the original versions, and you've created something new. The worst complaint you could get is "hey, that's my pic, but different". But that just means you used their pic as a template for your new creation. So yeah. But that's just theoretical, mind you, so, your choice.

if it would be that simple.. I know from german copyright laws, that once you modify something copyrighted, both you and the original copyright holder are now possessing copyrights on the modified version, so neither of them can do anything without the other (that's btw. why german copyright law prevents agreements like the one with Paramount/CBS and the Phase II or Star Trek New Voyages fan project). U.S. copyright is of course different, but I'm sure there's something preventing a simple "hey, I changed colors from RGB to GBR, now that's my pic!" there too.

Can you smoothen the borders a little and add a little contrast to the pasted part?

I like these images so far . They're all looking pretty good. I can't wait for the next update now, it sorta gets boring staring at "Image Missing" all the time lol . But all joking aside, these images are really coming along...

If the Guild image is for the Dominion, perhaps it needs a colourswap so the building is a bit more in keeping with the Dominion colour scheme, ie more blue/purple than pink? Just a thought. Oddly enough, the colour swap actually makes the Dominion logo colourscheme look closer to the original form, too. ... Sorry for my slowness, Vjeko, I AM still going through the other images. Once i've compiled a definitive list, we can start assigning your new images to the empty positions.

Well Irfanview solved that little problem. No damage done by it, and the image is saved as a png already so we can just use my version.

i will use your image Matress but i have now doubt which image shell i use for dominion death squad?? members help needed. "When unrest occurs there is sometimes no choice but to bring in the ruthless Jem'Hadar. It is a last resort, for the culling of millions is unsavoury, and detrimental to the infrastructure of the workforce. Unfortunately though it is often the only means to restore obedience"

Ooh yeah totally agree. Dangerous and evil are definitely what we need for a death squad. ...It's a shame to lose the guard though. A lot of work obviously went into making him. Save it in case we have a future need for it. I've almost completed the structure list, and i'll be posting it later tonight. There's been a large number of structures that i've had to add to it, although luckily there have also been quite a few removals thanks to the gargantuan efforts of Zeleni and Vjeko. Big thumbs up to your hard work so far, guys.

They are all interesting. I guess the bottom one peaks my interest the most. It is like a shipyard technology. Could you put the plants inside the cage?

You have good eye KoB, thats my favourite too, though needs some cleaning on edges, it's 2d image and I don't have 3d model so it will be harder to fit some plants nicely inside.
