I'm uploading ALL of the planet textures and atmospheres to Sharepoint. They'll be safer if they're all stored on there.

This is most definitely true. Plus, they'll be mostly easy to access from there as well.

That would be because I didn't notice your uploaded .rar files. I was waiting for you to upload the individual files. Images uploaded.

I I also may suggest that we modify the number and zypes of planets to some systems.
I found out this for the cardassian system:
* The Star Trek: Star Charts states that the Cardassian system is made up of a total of eight planets and contains two asteroid belts. It also cites a distance of 5.25 light years between Bajor and Cardassia.
* The RPG book Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Narrator's Toolkit, provides the following information: o the star is a bright red dwarf (M2 V type) o the first two planets are class F (I think that class is Barren) o Cardassia Prime is the third planet in the system o Cardassia VI and VII are class J gas giants o Cardassia VIII is class G (Couldn't find what type is class G so we could make it class P - polar)
So we have information about I,II,III,VI,VII and VIII
And we can fill in the gaps : IV ( Desert or Oceanic) V ( Jungle or Desert)
By doing this, the Sol system won't be the only one that is little more detailed and we aslo increase max pop of Cardassian system a little (if I remember correctly in the original BOTF Cardasian system had the largest population of all major races systems.)
I am willing to research and code all major star systems, and even importanat minor, if you agree with what I am trying to do here.

Here is how it would look like, and is there any way of avoiding planets with the same texture in star systems, gas giants in this case. I know they are generated randomly and that every planet type has three textures, but I have generated Cardassian system three times, and each time the two gas giant textures were the same ( they were different than the last time but the two gas giant always had same textures) eg first time they were both green, then both yellow, then agian both green.

We could select different textures in CustomPlanets.xml. Simply set the textures as one of the different pre-existing textures. That way we wouldn't need to add any new ones in then. Of course, this would eliminate any variation in the textures then, so they would always display the same ones. For checking planetary classes, I always use This Site. You might find it useful as well. Quote: Class G - Geocrystalline After the core of a Class F planet is sufficiently cool, volcanic activity lessens and the planet is considered Class G. Oxygen and nitrogen are present in some abundance in the atmosphere, giving rise to increasingly complex organisms such as primitive vegetation like algae, and animals similar to sponges and jellyfish. As the surface cools, a Class G planet can evolve into a Class H, K, L, M, N, O, or P class world.
AGE 3-4 billion years old
DIAMETER 10,000 - 15,000 km
LOCATION Ecosphere
SURFACE Rocky, mostly barren
ATMOSPHERE Carbon dioxide, oxygen, nitrogen
EVOLUTION Cools to Class H, K, L, M, N O, P
LIFE FORMS Vegetation, simple organisms
EXAMPLES Delta Vega
Crystalline planets are a class in the game. They're currently rare to the extreme though, so I might make it a Crystalline planet. I'll add the changes to my to-do list. Good hunting, Vjeko!

I can send you the code so that you can just copy-paste the new stuff.
Ok, the last planet is crystalline, and the first two are barren and volcanic since we don't have geocrystalline, the unknown two are arctic and jungle.

Any other suggestions? I can find no canon data on the Klingon system. And there is no conclusive data about the Romulan system, other than the planets I've already made (Romulus and Remus)

Wow, excellent work Vjeko! I think it is ok to lock down a system like Cardassia (or Sol, or other major empire) because in a real universe it would be locked down anyway. Jupiter isn't going to change to a green version (any time soon). Now if we could just get rid of the multiple moons around earth. CB

Yeah, the holidays tied me up a bit and I was trying to make Supremacy and Lightwave work on my Windows 7 installation. Gotta get back to doing artwork. BTW I liked your Sisko Card photoshop. Will have to try that.
Other suggestions on systems will require research. Maybe something out there has info on the Klingon and Romulan Systems.

Ah yes. The race research. I've been doing a little of that. I'm sure there's plenty of information on the Klingon and Romulan backgrounds. After all, Captain Picard spent a lot of time dealing with the Romulans and the Klingons, and the Klingons go back a long way. So gathering information on their systems, etc. should be ok. Seems I haven't been on often enough to respond to all these posts. I'm falling behind . Oh well. That's it for now...

I'm avoiding making any specific system changes at the moment because these can cause a mismatch between the human readable and non readable database files. That's the exact reason why i'm writing up a to-do list instead of actually doing the work. The only way I can ensure my updates don't end up crashing everyone's games is by waiting for Mike to release an editor.

Check out some new planet textures I've uploaded on sharepoint. Recently I've obtained awsome planet creation tutorial and decided to redo some planet textures I have done, plus I've added two more Rouge planet textures since all three we had were the same. http://www.botf2.com/Shared%20Documents ... I've noticed that ingame Halkans have Jungle planet as their homeworld, but in the episode "Mirror, Mirror", at least the remastered one they clearly have semi-Oceanic planet with green water and a purple atmosphere as their homeworld. We should make a custom planet texture for it with greenish water, or if you believe it is unnecessary we should make it with Jungle texture and purple atmosphere.

Andoria Cardassia Earth Ferenginar Gaia Jupiter Mars Mercury Neptune Pluto Remus Romulus Saturn The Great Link T'khul Uranus Venus Vulcan
Any more suggestions?

My solution for the Halkan problem without making new textures and with adding only four lines of code into the game. Attachment:

Also, I was thinking, we have enough desert, vulcan, demon.... and even oceanic planet textures, what we need is some more terran planet textures. Other planet types are very similar so three textures are enough to make it look like there are many different planets of that class, while terran planets have distinctive features and can easily be recognised as the same. In my opinion we should have three more terran planet textures, if that will be too much we could cut down demon planet textures to two, and crystalline to two since these planet types are rare ingame. Also I haven't seen any Rouge planets except the great link, so we could also reduce that planet type to two textures.

vjeko1701 wrote: I've also made new moons icons, the old ones looked like recolored Earth's moon. Will my new moons icon be included ingame? I can just upload them to Sharepoint if you want. Also: "According to writers Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens, in a special features segment in ENT Season 4 DVD, the establishment of the Andorian homeworld as a moon orbiting a gas giant was devised to help explain the contradiction of why it was sometimes called Andor and sometimes it was called Andoria. They explained that it could be both and that they had hoped to establish the gas giant as Andor and the moon as Andoria." We should name the gas giant near "Andoria" Andor
