Wow and Wow and Wow. You are really getting somewhere. I must say, very nice work K_O_B!!! Does the Juna figure have an internal skeligon skeleton so that she can be bent?

The Captain of B

Though Juna is extremely detailed in the original model she does not come with an armature. I had to build one for the gun arm, weight paint the mesh and pose her holding the gun.

Well I might as well put this minor update up with it. I added horns on the chair and worked on some details. I have been working on Juna to make a Cardassian head.

Captain Bashir.

Exactly. Try something - whoop, that's not it. Try something - Oh boy, that's not it either. Try something - Yikes, that's definitely not it, etc etc.
The artist formerly known as Bashir (who obviously doesn't know how to handle her yet) .

I like what you have done so far Captain Bashir. The only suggestions I might have are two things.

One is the saturation of many of the colors. Some seam rather rich and bright. Others are just right. You might get a grittier real look if some wear toned down, de saturated, a bit. You could do that in each material or in the final render with an ajustment of color intensity saturation. The video screens could stay richer than the material in the room.

The second is the conduits or beams overhead. In the original drawing there are fewer of them and they are not so uniformly repeated. Also there is an odd look to the way they die out into the sidewall. I was wondering about something like a pipe fitting or sharper angle into the wall. That is all the more I can suggest.

Slim said he does not mind taking liberty with the detail. Just hold the composition and focus.

BTW, Juna also has a few more parts like panties, buttons, zippers and jewelry that I did not bother to send. If you think you could use anything like that let me know. (the panties are not for me, I use boxers)

Yup, the ductwork is still in progress. I haven't gone back to it because I had something nearly done and the program crashed and I lost it a few weeks back. Haven't built up the drive to try again but will do so. The other thing is that I feel I need to widen the thing a little. As far as color saturation, most of it of course is in the view screens and control panels. Are you talking about the control panels, or the floors, desk walls etc or all of it? CB

Sorry about the crash.

I had to play a bit with the perspective as well. A wider view would be fine. I guess the hot pink on the transporter pad is the most noticeable to me. Other than that you might play with it as work progress. It is not a big issue as there are no big issues.

Feel free to comment on my work as well. I tend to get so close to details I do not see the forest.

It is probably partly that it is lit so bright for a secret underground installation. So I changed the picture above using lower lighting. The desk needs to brighten a bit and I miss the shine on the floor. The shadowing will change some as I fix those and add people. I also got rid of the extra ducts (still have to corregate them and add two more) and recolored the transporter pad to match the decor. In the original picture someone is materializing on it so I thought it had to look active. Oh, and it's wider now. The honorable Captain Bashir.

Great work about these pics, it will be a glorious game (maybe in the Guiness Records about the number of minor races in the Dafedz's database)  :bigthumb:

Thanks Bashir, be careful in the Romulan pic, the character under Juna & near the Spock mini picture has the long hair, the Romulans have the same haircut, very short.

That's Kenneth, but I am sure he will take that under advisement. Good spotting though. Also Kenneth, I would suggest a teensy bit more light on Juna (so we can see your handiwork). Bashir

Thanks

Slim came up with the cat tree architecture from the Narada interior in the new ST film. That gives it an interesting look.

Regarding the hair, see page one of the thread for his drawing, there will be some shaved heads from that faction of the race and it's past. He did draw Juna with long hair but I limited it so far to the girl in the pit. I can bring up the lighting a bit. Slim did want a film noir dark look so in general things other than the transporter and the video walls will be in the shadows. Colors will be low key other than in the video wall and a green light from the transporter.

Kenneth, there is a crucial question to ask: Should we work only with the canon or a mixture of non-canon and canon?

In all aspects of the game, canon comes first, but since there is a lot of stuff that canon Star Trek doesn't cover, we decided to use semi-canon and non canon information. (novels........)

There were aspects of the original BOTF game that weren't canon. Correct me if I am wrong but I don't think we ever saw the colony ship / troop transport from BOTF in any of the shows. Most of the images like "plasma reactors" or "matter furnace" or the "Daystrom institute" only visually existed in BOTF as far as I recall. They, of course, had no choice but to make up new stuff. Captain B

Besides visual stuff, planet names, system names, ships..........Have been taken from non and semi canon sources(it's better to use information form novels or even games than guessing and making things up, also that will be a big plus for people that have read those novels and played those games. Also, any info that contradicts canon is not used.)

I agree, stay as close as possible to canon, even if the wider (book, comic, game) canon. Adapt canon designs if something new has to be done. Fortunately it probably won't have to happen much since a lot was already in BOTF.

Well with shape-the-galaxy-any-way-you-see-fit games, like BotF, I don't think it "has" anything constructive to add to Canon. We know the Ferengi weren't a Major Power.

Major Powers are those with: Significant Military Capability, Major Economic Structure that can stably exist seperate from the export/import trade between powers and other races, and all sorts of other stuff (research etc)

however, the ferengi are known to only pursue profit, whether it be profiteering in war (selling to two sides), the after-war peace (selling the supplies to rebuild) etcetera. And their economy would probably collapse without the trade with other species. (Just look at our society: with money in the hands of banks, we got the economy crisis!)

Basically, a Major Power is one that is Militarily, Economically, Organisationally, Scientifically and um... of sufficiently large populous, that they can defend themselves from major attack to a significant degree before extinction or being conquered becomes a foregone conclusion, can stand on their own economically, and advance their own race through the stars and through science.

aka races like the Federation, the Cardassians (female engineers etcetera), klingons (not all klingons gain honor through the glory of battle, we even got klingon scientists who understood the more subtle matters of honor [Enterprise], and there are others in judicial services [STVI] and so forth. Fighting isn't as big a part of their society as they like others to believe. It's just significant enough that most don't realise so.) The Romulans (gotta be to have those huge ships in their sheer numbers, although the numbers could be all those remans they've enslaved)

But the Ferengi? As noted... They're all driven by money. I would go so far as to suggest that the only research is done on product research when releasing things like, new lines of Marauder Mo action figures.
I seriously doubt they even developed their own ships. It would stand to reason that they bankrupted some poor race (literally :P ) and took their ships as collateral. We only saw, what, 3 Ferengi' D'Kora class starships? Twice in TNG, and once in Voyager (The ones who did that holo-barcley incident thingimajigabob)

Hell they turn those into mobile casino's, apparently.

As for Ferengi Engineers: Rom is like the exception that proves the rule. He only got the chance to be a proper engineer, able to properly learn, because the Chief gave him a chance, on DS9. And Nog is another. How many captains had so much contact with a young ferengi as to even slightly believe said young ferengi that they earnestly wanted to join Starfleet? Nog was the *first* ferengi in starfleet, afterall. And we still don't even know if another (full-blooded) klingon joined after Worf.

Hell, I'm honestly trying to remember if there was ever a focus on those two facts in the dom-war seasons of DS9: the Defiant, Worf and Nog on the bridge... cajoling about being the 'only ones of their race' in starfleet.

Admitedly, both are the exceptions. Worf: Attack on Khitomer and being adopted by the Rhojenko's and living on earth , Nog: Being best friends with Jake on DS9. Two key factors for each to even giving it the thought.

... What was my point again?

Oh yeah, why Ferengi shouldn'a been a Major Power in BotF.

I have been experimenting with transporter cgi. This may be a little overkill.
This is also Juna in a new light. There will be more green video screen down in the pit before it is all done.

Romulan Intelligence has a new face to represent it. It's a shame that face will never been seen by those who are being hunted by it.

Suggestions:
- Can you ensure that the whole Juna body is illuminated to highlight his race (face and ears) and his uniform (same thing about the body near the Spock image)?
- The transporter cgi on the three bodies is a good idea but you should use it only on a single body (The body is under the white circle of teleportation) and highlight the 2 others bodies in normal graphics.
