Kenneth_of_Borg wrote: Nice progress. Did you find a place to download plant models or did you make them yourself?
Models: It looks like after you click on the 3d Model in that link there is an email address link at the bottom of the page. You could show him your work and ask about shuttle models as well. I do recall some shuttles at battleclinic.com. I can not check on them from work though. They also made it a lot harder to find the models on that site.
Cheers, I'll have a poke around when I have the time And I download the plants, as I really didn't have time to make them myself. Quote: Material: You might also try dulling down the spec and hard and darken the color on the non Fed buildings. Ambient occlusion is another way to fuss things out a bit. Doing the reverse on the Fed building material should make it stand out. Darken the other buildings? That's the opposite of what Zeleni said I'm already using final gather radiosity so, alas, ambient occlusion wont really add anything. I'm thinking that as long as they're not bright like the Federation building will be (I'm going to bring up the levels on it a bit) the white may be ok. Unless you thought the buildings should have a particular colour? I'm trying to keep that general Federation bland concrete style going

In the end you will try a few things and go with what works best.

Is it dawn or dusk at Romulus? Great image KoB but I have one question about that building standing up in behind, that big circle at top has romulan bird in the middle right, at first i was thinking it is big eye watching around, it's a bit confusing at first maybe you should enlarge bird 2 or 3 times I think it would be better.

Can you tell what it is? I took it to be some form of the Romulan bird emblem. It does seam to be the tallest building. Especially on the inland side. I am not yet done with the detail on that building. I was thinking of a different form of the emblem. For now it is just barrowed from the top of the senate dome.

This is the image from Nemesiss, structure is apparently changed: I really can't tell what kind of symbol is it but you can't make mistake placing the ordinary one.

Yes, it did change. As the image is intended to work across all tech levels I will us an older ship in the background. On the same grounds I guess we can say the first look for that building is an earlier version. We could prove that if I take a look for it in that Enterprise episode with the Romulan Capital. It also looks like I need to turn down the specularity and give it some tarnish. I also need to add some scaling to force perspective into the space in the model from inner to outer walls.

Does anyone have any high res mountains that can be made to look backlit? I do not want to wait for the next winter.

I'd have to agree there. Why does it have to have mountains though? The movie version appears to have a sea or a lake in the background.

Ok i've completely redone the lighting, removed clutter from the buildings, tried to organise remaining clutter to look more.....like its meant to look that way, oh and used a lot of Ray mirror. Refined a couple of other things too. Let me know what you think.
Btw those ugly white cannons are probably gonna be coming off soon and i'll replace em with nicer models.

Great to see the progress. It is looking nice. I did notice that the size of the texture, looks like a normal map, on the wall to the right side is more course than the rest of the walls. On some of the in blender textures you can set the size. You can also set the degree of normal mapping under the "map to" tab with a slider. Do I see a shape shifter turning to glop down there? In other news the top of that building in the Romulan Capital is the second design in the Enterprise episode "Babel One." I should change my model to look the same. Thanks Zeleni. The building where the Romulans set up the pilot was just to the right of it in my view.

Strangely that more course texture is exactly the same material as the others, i don't know why it looks so different to the others. Oh and that shapeshifter is a water fountain lol. I wanted to keep the fountain so i moved it over to the other side when i changed the angle.

Nice fountain If the matterial is the same it may be mapped in a different way. The first place I would look is in the tabs to the right of material. Especially in the map to and map input. I guess there are some figures to put in and not much else until it is done? That will make two of ten backgrounds ready for the new release. I might be able to get the Romulan Diplomatic done if Mike is delayed a bit with the new release. That is if my trip to China in September does not get in the way. We can use Slim's drawings for the others awaiting completion.

That sounds great. I was just checking on Breen ships and it looks like the engines glow green for some of them. You might want to check on that. I recall some were yellow as well. Also I was wondering if the mirror finish on the ship should reflect the banner as much as it does? They seam to be rather flat finish as I recall. - up to you -

Yeah, Breen ships were relatively dull in colour. Blues, greys, and browns. They also had blue navigational deflectors and red impulse engines. Images below. Spoiler tagged them because they're big.

I hope it would just be a small change in the color of the image texture or material for the ship. I looks like they are not far off though. Yellow Greenish and not a big deal

I have been working a bit on the composition. Trying to keep Slim's layout, work in canon elements and make it work together here... This image has non of the post render touch-up so just look at the layout of elements so far. I think it is getting better. I hope it is getting better.

Most impressive. Where did you get the statues? Can't wait to see how it ends up. Bashir BTW I will probably be working on the Obsidian order this weekend. I'm getting back into the swing of it.

The human figures are based on some free blender model downloads. These guys are from some video game and were made with major segments of the body as independent objects. That makes them easy to pose without resorting to rigging bones. They are low poly but work here, after some touch-up, do to the small scale in this render. I will do the same for the Romulans that will be added on the walkways. I can try to convert to lightwave or 3DS if you want them.

A low res update; Slowly adding more detail. A big chunk will be building city fading out to the base of the hills. This view does not have any of the post render touch-up for clouds, sky line edges or the like.

Let me be the first to say, Remarkable, Awesome, Remarkable. It's really good. The detail on the senate building.... Wow. You know, the artwork for this game is going to be WAY beyond the first one. As a group we're making the original artists look like amateurs. CB

As I look at it and consider it longer, I have two personal preference suggestions. Nothing major. I hope the middle foreground eventually has something more in it (in reality there would probably be a city - Kenneth remember when you made that sociology image suggestion? ) and the countryside may be a little too red for the degree of sunset we are looking at.
