We know that the Randoms can support music because the existing Religious Event triggers a pipe organ sound effect. Having some music would certainly add atmosphere. We could have a voice clip of the Borg playing for the Borg for instance, or even Some Music.Matress loves the music from Armada.

Kenneth_of_Borg wrote: Your ideas for the music in each window sounds good to me. Gloria the cat likes it too. The old version of the game has one music selection for the opening screen and then, if I recall correctly, one more that stays with you for every other window. The best way to hear it is to start your old version of the game and imagine the transitions as you click around the UI windows. I only have the Easter version. Don't know if it's the one you're mentioning but in this version, I think there is 2 mood music depending on where you are (not sure of that though), in the Map or in the System section, unless it's the same but longer version. excluding the opening screen. I can say that I like the songs that are already in there,.. for the Federation. For the other races, I would say it would be fun to have a mood song for each, depending on which race you play, like for example, if you play the Klingons, the mood music should be more " mortem", so to speak, still calm but definitely Gothic, in a down way, like a "barbarian that's resting". Do you see what I mean? That would make six loopable mood music for each section, for each Empire, if we're to include the Officers (personnel) section. Am I right?

I could try a few tests later. I think I remember that my keyboard had this feature somewhere. I never used it because I need a special microphone, not hard to find and not so expensive. I guess I will have to buy it for that matter. I'm aiming to buy another keyboard for special effects. Unless somebody does for now, and if he does, I would like to know. I can provide some music that we can mix, though I think I should wait for other confirmations before I jump to that. Right now, I'm still working on finishing the Cardassian music.

Thank you Captain Bashir! I started an intro for the Cardassians. Uploaded to Share Point (Hey! My first file uploaded by myself!) I'll need your say on this one before I continue, guys! Keep in mind that it's a intro. The rest of the song won't be such Arabian, unless it's what you want.
I called it "Cardassian Bloodsand".

The music is fin but I wonder if it is to identifiable as Middle Eastern. If you take out the tambourine sound and slowed it down a bit it might be more subtle a reference. It is my fault for suggesting unqualified Middle Eastern but you still appear to be one to something.

In my opinion it's a good start, but it's too Earthy, too arabic. If you remove the instrument (the one used for provoking snakes, I don't know the name) and replace it with something more alien, it would sound better.
EDIT: I just realized that Kenneth said the same thing.

It is my fault for not qualifying my suggestions. I think Vjeko is right. It is very recognizable as a earth stile of music. You could keep the composition but can you change the instruments? Does that make any sense?

I was uncertain for that one but I showed it anyway because I found it fun. Yes, I could take out the tambourine. The speed was to be changed as I went from the Intro to the heart of the song because I felt like it would need heavy sounds like the others I did. At second thought, I should have done more of the song so that you really hear the heavy part, and judge from there. My bad! Guess I was too fast at that one!

You could keep the composition but can you change the instruments? Does that make any sense? Well, to be honest, why should we keep it? It's much too short to do anything. That one was about a few seconds long. I feel it too traditional and not enough futuristic, as I think of it now. I'd rather scrap it and start over again with a more in time style. I'll take it out of Share Point tomorrow, it wouldn't be useful for us anyway. I've got plenty of other ideas just waiting to be created. Please don't put the blame on you. It' my bad. Anyway, I'll have another one for you to listen. It's mood music. EDIT: Sorry, I had to put it here, the Share Point wouldn't let me upload today. If there's a problem, let me know. http://www.mediafire.com/?bold0jey35uwif6 Mood music 01 - Gino Véziau I think it would fit for the Vulcans. But as usual, I will need your feedback. I think you will have to wind up the volume a bit. It is not balanced yet, fresh out of recording.

I am downloading now. Let me get back to you in a bit. In the mean time I do recall that the original game, Birth of the Federation, had a little background music for the Cardassian race selection video intro. It is on YouTube someplace. You might check for that.

Thank you vjeko1701! Glad you like it! And yes, Kenneth__of_ borg, you already told me a couple of times but it always feels good to be appreciated. Thank you again!
I thought it would fit for the map screen of the Vulcans since I was thinking at Spock when he was composing a song with his multi instrument harp. You can hear part of the harp, part of Gothic guitar, some synth violins and a space choir in the background. The song right now is not quite balanced. Wasn't the volume a bit too low? Was there an instrument that scratched your ears? Is it ok like it is?
it was meant to be a relaxing, kind of meditative song, that's why I thought of the Vulcans. But we can find a place for it anywhere, although I wouldn't see it in an agressive Empire like the Klingon. Too soft for them.

Well Vjeko1701, it wouldn't be a bad idea but first, I will have to make it much longer like let's say, double the time, and to my taste, my humble opinion, I would prefer to create a lively song for the ending part that would unite all races in one big theme, something that would make people remember some parts of the game. But that's me, I could be wrong.

Speaking of ending, wouldn't it be nice if, during the credit stroll, you could see some small, faded and fading images of part of what happened in each one's game, like the best battle between your Empire and the best ennemy, some successful diplomacy, part of which better race was in your Empire, the best tech found, and even maybe a kind of small film to show how The Winning Empire would officially celebrate, like a film ending but not full screen, just small, about the size of a regular avatar, 100X100 or the like, fading in and out alternatively, like a faded background, very soft and slowly moving around. I'm sure that's asking too much, I don't even know how to make a simple animation, but it would encourage people to replay the game, just to get to the ending and look at it again. And it would make them wanting more, like another game (or other games) similar to this one.

Good idea. We have a bit more work to do before there is time to plan that out though. I hope as word spreads, especial with the next update, that we get some more workers.

I have renamed the Mood music 01 to: Spock's Complaint 57. I thought it would best fit for it but we still can put it anywhere. Is it Ok? It's still in the General music section. Good day!

I guess Mike might be asked to consider music for special minor races. It could play when you meet them or are managing that system as a member / colony.

If not, then I could rename it to whatever use it may have. Thinking of it, there might not be so much special races, like the Vulcan, Ferengiis, and the like. Or maybe I should keep the old name, that way it would not have an influence to use it only for that race.

Ok! Guys! I redone the Cardassian Bloodsand and signed it with Test . There's the intro and the first part of the song. At the end of this, which will match the middle, there will be a slower part, and then I will conclude with the Finale and find a looping part.
It is uploaded in the Cardassian section. This one should be more in tune with the race, I think. Good day to all!

Yes, I guess it's more like it. At this stage, I had to take care not to repeat the same melody for different songs. Anyway, I think the themes for the Empires will be completed with this one, and I'll be making some mood music afterwards or songs for other sections. Do we keep the short songs which were tests for these ones or delete them, to clarify where we're at in Share Point?

Given that you are making the music to play with the different windows of the UI do you plan to make the compositions for all the windows thematically related to the main theme of each major race? That is to say do you intend the work you have already done to be playing on the galactic map window and work you will now do to be for the other four or five windows of each major race?

If I understand correctly, those march themes I made already for all the major races should be playing when you choose the Empire you wish to play, or/and as a presentation song for the Diplomatic scene for those major races, that is, when you first make contact, but to my taste, they should play only the first time you make contact. I think there should be a second song, specially for the Embassy, that would play when you apply for a treaty.
As for the other sections, like the Map screen (soft music), System (technic or electronic music), Espionage (spy music), I mean all the screens you need to stay in for a long period of time should have their own music. I don't know now how many sectors are planned, but let's say there's six ; then yes, there should be six musics for each Empire, excluding the Presentation scene. All in all, if there's six major races or Empires, that would make six times six songs, equaling 36 for the internal sectors. Plus six themes (already done or almost finished) for the Main starting screens and First Contact). Is that what you asked me?

There are five major races rather than six so you have a little less to do. As I understand it from Mike he has coded for music to play with each user interface window of the major races. That is: 1. Galactic Map 2. Systems, aka Colony 3. Research, aka Science 4. Diplomacy, aka Embassy 5. Espionage, aka Intel 6. Personnel maybe, we do not know yet It could be 25 to 30 songs. 1. Main Menu = Galactic Map Your idea of playing music on selection of a major race and on meeting a major race is a good idea. You could pose it as a question to Mike in this thread Questions for Mike

Sorry, but I couldn't get access to this section. It mentions that I'm not authorized to read this forum. You could, if you please, ask him about that and tell me what he answered in a PM or here. Or maybe you could fix something so that I can access it. Once again, here it is, now completed. Cardassian Bloodsand. http://www.mediafire.com/?xjh03tm5i2tbat0With that one, I think that the Major races and Empires should be concluded, unless there's something I forgot. Next, I will work on the different sections of the game, I don't know with which one I'll start yet. Unless there's another important section to do before the others. Oh! And let's not forget Combat! That's another five songs if he doesn't use the themes as Combat music.

I'm doing a test with this song. Tell me if it would fit a combat scene. There's not much to hear (18 seconds) but if it seems useful for combat, I'll finish it. If not, well we'll erase it and start anew. I don't want to keep this in Share Point, it's just a test. Thank you! http://www.mediafire.com/?6vjbuzenjo6y758

Sorry, I did not know you could not see that forum. You can send him a PM at mstrobel. The files did upload without any issues from my workplace. The big fat internet connection here seams to do the job. The full Cardassian theme sounds good. I like the combat music and put it in a new Combat folder. We can hold that for the day when a combat engine is in the game.

Hello everyone! I uploaded The first Combat theme to Share Point. For now, I'm wondering to which Empire it belongs. Looks Romulan to me but it could be anyone. What do you think? I'm leaving the Test song there for now in case we need short music. Happy listening!
