Torchwood, USA
Does anyone know much about Torchwood? I have read a bit about it online but have not seen the show. I just got booked to work Union on a shoot at Venice Beach California. I see the BBC show was picked up by Starz TV in the US. My part is that of, as street performer. I will be the "Golden Cowboy" dressed and makeup in gold. There are calls going out for muscle men and hot babes in bathing suits so it will be as a typical weekend outdoor beach day in Venice Beach, Ca. for the shoot. Given the Men in Black theme of the show as I understand it I may be an Alien hiding in the open or just background at the least.
The computer goes with me. I am still working on the Klingon Intro. To make the smoke and fire takes what is called a particle system. This is very complicated and test runs take a lot of time to complete. Being off work will help some so work is on going.

UK version is crap its got welsh ppl in it and they sound awful well the women does. (no offence moe lol)
Captain jack is ok but did they really need to make him gay, not that i have really anything against people of that way but they really flaunt it in the show.
Tbh i wish sci fi was left to Americans high budgets as uk ones usually have crap accent British in which ruin em and locations and post production etc. Only exception is Red Dwarf and some Dr Who.

How dare you Skeet I rather like Gwen lol. She's a good actress and she's been in quite a few TV shows lately (Or has in Wales at least). And I don't actually find her accent that strong. I've heard much stronger Welsh accents than hers. People from the valleys and west Wales have the strongest accents.
...
Torchwood (Which is an anagram of "Doctor Who" in case you didn't know) is a spin-off of the modern Dr. Who shows. It was set in Cardiff and was about a British organisation, which was originally set up and funded by Queen Victoria during a Dr. Who episode where she meets the Doctor, to investigate alien, paranormal, or simply unexplained activity in the UK. Until recently, Torchwood had branches in all of the capital cities of the UK, although Torchwood Cardiff was the only branch left effectively running after the other branches were destroyed or simply vanished under mysterious circumstances, as shown in some later Dr. Who episodes.
Unlike Dr. Who, the show is adult in nature, and contains frequent strong language, sex scenes, violence, and gore. The first season followed Gwen, a police officer working in Cardiff, who learns of the existence of Torchwood whilst doing her job, and she eventually joins the Torchwood team.
The second main character is Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman). He's bisexual, although the show graphically flaunted his gay side. Jack appeared in several episodes of Dr Who as well, serving as an intro to his character. Jack is a time agent from the future, (Kind of like Star Trek's Starfleet Temporal Investigations officers) but has decided to stay in the 2000's to lead Torchwood Cardiff. He's physically unable to die; his body always reanimates a few minutes after he suffers any accident, although he still feels the pain of every death and injury.
The other main characters in the series are Ianto Jones (Pronounced Yanto), Toshiko Sato (Usually shortened to "Tosh"), Owen Harper, and Rhys Williams.
Ianto's character is first seen in a Dr Who episode, where he works for Torchwood London, which is later destroyed. Ianto survives the destruction, and begs Jack for a job which he gets, but he initially serves as nothing more than a glorified secretary for Torchwood Cardiff. His part grows through the series and he eventually becomes Jack's lover. Toshiko serves as the resident techie of the team. She can crack any computer system and can figure out the purpose behind alien devices, although she suffers from low self-confidence. Owen is an arrogant, self-loving doctor and pathologist. His job is to perform autopsies, diagnose illnesses, come up with treatments, and fix up sick or injured team members. Rhys is Gwen's fiancee; Gwen initially hides her work with Torchwood from him, but he slowly becomes increasingly suspicious of what she's doing, putting a strain on their relationship. His character also grows with the series and he eventually plays a role within Torchwood too.

Thanks for the background. There is always some level of security implicit in what I hear, see and do on a shoot but I will let you guys know in general terms how it goes. It sounds like the series has been getting better over time like Enterprise did. It is nice to work on the good shows.

it was on Croatian television and I liked it. An ok show, not fantastic but also not awful. There were some very interesting episodes.

This is me with Tiffany at the base camp area for filming of the TV show Torchwood at Venice Beach, California. Tiffany is in charge of background actors for the show ‘Torchwood’ (now called ‘Torchwood: Miracle Day’). The 'golden cowboy' is a street performer on the Ocean Front Walkway down by the beach. Venice Beach is well known for being a full time freak show. They brought in some 'specialty acts' like my cowboy, a belly dancer and Nic the Rollerblading mandolin playing pirate to set the scene for this location. About half the crew wanted to take a photo with me. That included Eve Myles with her lovely Welsh accent. It will air starting in the summer and this will be two or three episodes in. They could not close the walk while filming so some folks just passing were in the shot. I made about three dollars in tips put in my tin can during the shoot. It sounds like they will use a closeup of the gun to open the shot as the camera zooms out on the walk. Some hippie suggested a fair in Scotland where I can make good tips doing my act. For now I will stay with my day job but do this as a paying hobby when I can. I was there as background to set his location and will, unless something changes, not be in any more of the show.

What is happening in the US? Is it a new version of torchwood with American actors or are they some how continuing the show? When I first read this thread I though it was a remake but when you mentioned Eve Myles I got confused!

Eve and the Captain guy are the only ones to move into the US version of the show from what I have read.

That's because Ianto, Toshiko and Owen were killed off in season 2 and 3. There was a huge public outcry when Ianto was killed off. There's a shrine in Cardiff Bay dedicated to Ianto and it's been there for about three years now.
