I see that most of the ships in our library are lower poly than would be nice even in a fleet scene. We can come back to the poly issue when there is work on a combat engine. For now I have moved over to the nebula scene. It needs to go in line before the fleet anyway.

Forget about the lighting and such. This is just a test of the animation. Flying the camera works nicely but it pans over the nebula. The image of the nebula ends up low resolution by the way it is used as "sky" in the render. I can keep a fixed camera and just fly the ship to the full Nebula image but it is a lot less interesting. What do you think?

Thanks, I will be able to see the youtube stuff once I get home and out from behind the fun filter at work. That is a good site and I am wiring some of those ship to fly in animation already.

Now that video was interesting. It will take longer but if I build the nebula as a particle system in blender I should be able to also animate it with the lightning as seen in the video. (4.21 - 4.29) Here is something new to learn.

Well, you don't have to recreate the entire nebula, this can be done in either post-production or simply make just a few particles that will light up in front and behind the nebula texture at a certain point. I'm also not that big on the lightning in space idea, and was thinking it was unnecessary imo

It is taking hours to render the animation of part 3 of the Federation Intro. I cannot show you that yet but here is an early collection of models for the fleet action scene, part 4.

I LOVE WHAT I'M SEEING, it's awesome, and just wanted to let everyone know the voice actor is still here :D wish I could be more useful :S

I do have photoshop, premier and after effects. I'm not the greatest video editor anything...and I am all about learning blender if you can recomend a tutorial...

and I know it's sinful to post here...but I do have a lightsaber effects video I did :S if you want to see...

The force is strong with this one. Very nice work on the video. You have done enough to keep us busy for a while. I get a little done here and there on the Federation Intro. There have been a few false starts as well. When we are looking at the 3D combat engine I would expect the need for a few more recordings.

Like Matress I am also not dead. There were some major crash issues with this load of animation in blender. With the latest update version of blender, 64 bit and on the newest PC it seams to be stable again. Now I can get back to actually working on it.

I will be recording our Tal'Shiar agent this weekend. Here is my revision of the Romulan Intro.

I just noticed that the windows on either side of the center of the front of the saucer are showing through to the back of the saucer. (They are on either side of the impulse engine and just above the back saucer windows). I think. :question:

Thanks for noting that. It can be fixed. To get the glow and glare a compositor is used. The compositor splits up the elements from different layers, applies the light effects and recombines the images. You have to watch for issues just like that as solid elements in one layer will not block light based on relative depth in images from other layers. It shows up very clearly as wrong when the ship moves.
