From Trekmovie.com:

Of course much of the talk here focuses on the new Star Trek movies, but we here at TrekMovie never forget that Trek was born (and can be argued, was at its best) on television. Over the last few years many have talked about a desire to bring Trek back to TV, and now its being reported that two of these Hollywood hotshots (both named Bryan) are thinking of teaming up.

Report: Fuller and Singer considering teaming up for new Star Trek series (but don’t expect anything soon)

TrekMovie has previously reported that both Bryan Singer (director of X-Men, Valkyrie, producer for House) and Bryan Fuller (writer for Star Trek Voyager, creator of Pushing Daisies, Wonderfalls and Dead Like Me) have both (separately) shown interest in bringing Star Trek back to the small screen. As it happens the two fans of Star Trek are working together on a reboot of The Munsters (now titled Mockingbird Lane) for NBC.

And now AICN is reporting that the two have "discussed the possibility of pooling their resources to take a new corner of Gene Roddenberry’s multiverse to the small screen."

It is interesting to learn that the two are now thinking about Star Trek together. That being said, it appears that there are currently no plans at CBS to bring Star Trek back to TV in the short term. Indications are that such a project would not even be considered until after at the release of two Star Trek films from JJ Abrams, if not three.

The previously reported approaches for the two regarding Star Trek have been very different. In 2005 and early 2006, Singer was involved in a plan to pitch CBS & Paramount on a new show set in the year 3000 with a Federation in turmoil trying to return to the glory days (see TrekMovie exclusive details on "Star Trek Federation"). That plan was shelved before pitching to CBS once it was announced in 2006 that JJ Abrams would be making a new Star Trek feature. Also, in 2007 Singer told TrekMovie that his schedule really didn’t have room for a Star Trek TV show. Fuller has also spoken a few times about his desire to return to the world of Star Trek on TV. A couple of years back TrekMovie spoke to Bryan Fuller about his idea for a show, which he envisioned would be set in the new movie universe, but not on board the USS Enterprise.

There are a lot of challenges for bringing Star Trek back to television. Genre shows have always struggled on network TV. In addition, a space-based sci-fi series is a costly endeavor. This cost issue is what has kept LucasFilm from moving forward on plans for a live-action Star Wars TV series (recently revealed to be titled Star Wars: Underworld), although they hope to be able to make it work sometime this decade. And then there are the multiple parties involved, with CBS owning Star Trek on TV, but Paramount owning assets and rights related to the new Star Trek films (which would be needed if a series was set in that universe).

With such an expensive, complicated and potentially risky endeavor, it is certain that CBS would want some big name creative talents behind the show like Singer and Fuller, so that could only help to make it happen.

Unfortunately, I don't see this happening any time soon as it would obviously conflict with JJ's movies and everybody knows that (and is also mentioned in the report). At least there are people thinking about it.

Regarding the timeline, I can see two options. Either [post-TOS but pre-TNG] or [post-Voyager]. The idea with the 31th century would be way too complicated in my opinion as they would have to start from scratch and invent everything (the politics of the Federation, the technology etc) and obviously there would be no connection with our beloved Trek.

Spoiler: show
Also, I'm not sure how I would feel about a TNG or DS9 remake
I don't really care about Voyager, as the end was horrible (even worse than that of the Enterprise)...

Let wait and see

I want a trek after or during voyager myself. Maybe a 5 year mission in the gamma quadrent is possible due to dominion war being over etc so could go in and nosy about there. Or, but i dont think i would like it much, a ground based trek like a colony or something with occasional space bits with threats to the planet there on and stuff. But i duno i think i need it to be space but they kinda went that way with ds9 but in a station so they could kinda do it on a planet i think.

Year 3000 is only a century after the destruction of Romulus. Admittedly, lots would happen, but it could still be Trek. Especially if it were put in the hands of someone who really cared about trek, as they seem to do.

However, I could see (and would kinda like to see, in the right hands) someone doing a TV miniseries of the ST-Destiny trilogy. And, if that got good ratings, continuing with that timeline out to the destruction of Romulus and beyond. I mean, it would make a kind of sense that the Federation couldn't spend much effort on an uncertain and theoretical supernova problem if they were still building from the final Borg incursion, only a decade before.

I think there HAS to be a ship. Even DS-9 eventually got the Defiant. How about a Kirk era series with the Constitution refit but another ship name? Say, the "USS Crazy Horse" OR "USS Brittain"

No, not really... Remember that the Jellyfish was created by La Forge and piloted by Spock. Year 3000 is about 600+ yrs post TNG and is actually around the time of Daniels the Temporal agent from Enterprise.

I've always thought it would be fun to do something a little different with the next Trek, maybe take from the timeline after Voyager (not the JJ universe), and go from a Romulan perspective. Have the show be based on a Romulan ship. You could get a different feel, less play by the rules, and more subtle and scheming plots to protect their Empire. Since the Romulans have no trouble using other races like Klingons and etc in their plots you could have non-romulan personnel, you can even run into special guests on the show but from the other side of the table. They don't have to be 'Evil' but if well written it could be a nice counter point and a look into alternate perspectives in the universe.

Since Romulans are basically human looking, the makeup on a mostly Romulan crew wouldn't be too terrible either. Would be fun to have some espionage episodes too (like Romulans impersonating humans in key areas, after all the Federation did it to the Romulans). Since the Romulans really like to play on a Universal scale, it doesn't all have to be on a ship, and chances for interesting locations are options.

Anyways just an idea :romulan:

What??????? :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf:
That wouldn't be Trek anymore dude...
But I agree with the idea of stirring things up a bit.

How do you say Star Trek in Romulan?

Sure its Star Trek same universe same idea just different perspective, one I think the writers could have a lot of fun with.

Its not called Federation Trek after all so I don't see why it couldn't happen. You could even throw in some Federation guys on the Romulan Ship if you want, heck their motives could even be suspect... Are they federation spies? Diplomats, or Actual federation traitors?

Also after the last Next Gen Movie the Romulans are looking more favourably towards the Federation (or at least some of Senate is). It could be really interesting to test the new tension between the two sides. We could have Federation Ambassadors on the Romulan ship that always questions the Romulan's actions leading to some interesting interpersonal relationships on the ship.
