The delemma for the Federation is preventing the "power from going to their heads." You were always right on about that point Picard in the series and the movies.

Character and uniform speculation mostly

TrekMovie now has confirmed with sources that there will indeed be Star Trek XII filming in Iceland, however the shoot will be for the Star Trek sequel’s second unit.

The crew headed to Iceland will be filming solely for visual effects shots. The 2nd unit crew is headed up by visual effects supervisor Roger Guyett (of ILM), however it is also possible that director JJ Abrams will be going, according to TrekMovie.

What's it like being part of the "Star Trek" universe? And did you really understand what you were getting into when you accepted the role of Kirk?

I don't know if I had any sense of what I was stepping into, not being a fan when I got into the process. I watched that documentary "Trekkies" and thought, "Wow, I had no idea how the fans were so loyal and related to the world." Because the fans loved the original actors so much, we were afraid we would not live up to their expectations. We all wanted to do well by it. But after it came out, people seemed to be pretty receptive to it. Although some people had a problem with my version of Kirk that was more rebellious than Shatner's Kirk.

You're signed to do the next Jack Ryan movie, following in the footsteps of Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and Alec Baldwin. In fact, Us Weekly once referred to you as "the new Harrison Ford." What does that mean to you?

I was watching Ford in "Clear and Present Danger" the other night. I think what he does so well is he's the perfect embodiment of the reluctant hero, and he does that well in the Jack Ryan series. There's a part of him that doesn't want to be in the limelight, but he's got to be. There's a gruff, real-man quality to him that's very appealing.

Pine will probably Like being Kirk better than Shatner seemed to (at least at first). He seems to have plenty of work doing other serious roles. He is clearly not typecast in the role.

Bad Robot Productions will create immersive Dolby Atmos sound mix and integrate Dolby Professional Reference Monitor into workflow

Abrams’ Bad Robot production of Star Trek into Darkness will use the latest technical achievements in cinematic storytelling to deliver a new experience to audiences. Star Trek into Darkness is scheduled to be released by Paramount Pictures on May 17, 2013.

Is this another cheap trick by the studios in order to bump up the ticket prices, like it was done with the 3D? It sure looks like it

The change appears to be overhead speakers to give a more precise movement of the perceived sound source around the theater. They have a demo video imbedded that talks about it.

Unfortunately, it will only be shown in IMAX3D cinemas and I don't think that the only "American" cinema here in Madrid is IMAX

The "local" IMAX for me is about 2 hours drive away in Phoenix, Arizona. Add about the same amount of time in line and there you are.

Star Trek Into Darkness Trailer To Show With (non-IMAX) Hobbit Movie

TrekMovie has exclusively learned from multiple trusted sources that the first trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness will premiere with screenings of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey on December 14th. To be clear this Trek trailer is a completely different thing than the 9-minute preview of the beginning of the new movie which will be shown at IMAX screenings of the Hobbit film. Also TrekMovie has confirmed that the IMAX screenings will not be showing the trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness. So if you want trailer see non-IMAX Hobbit and if you want preview of opening 9 minutes see IMAX Hobbit.

Details are still sketchy on the trailer itself, however TrekMovie has confirmed it is not a condensed version of the 9-minute preview showing on IMAX. Specifically sources confirm the trailer contains material from many parts of the movie. We have also learned that this is a traditional theatrical trailer and not just short teaser trailer.

While the trailer will show exclusively with non-IMAX screenings of The Hobbit on the weekend of December 14th, it should be available with additional films by the following weekend, including Paramount’s new Jack Reacher film opening December 21st. It is also expected to be available online. If JJ Abrams sticks with tradition, the trailer would be released online after the first weekend. However, this is not the case for the 9-minute preview of Star Trek Into Darkness showing on IMAX screens. Sources tell TrekMovie the opening sequence preview will not be made available online.

IGN is reporting that the trailer for "Star Trek Into Darkness" will not be attached to "The Hobbit" when such is released on December 14th, sd reported by TrekMovie.com, but will be released online at an earlier date.

This information, originally reported by The Lebanese Cinema Movie Guide, contradicts numerous reports, including TrekWeb's, that the "Star Trek Into Darkness" trailer would be released with "The Hobbit". No information was available on the specific date the trailer would be released online.

Hmm, weird... Anyway, they will probably show a trailer before or during the holidays as the Trek premiere is less than half a year away (more or less).

BTW, I found that there are actually IMAX cinemas here in Madrid, but both of them are far far away...

@Kenneth: If you search for IMAX on google, it will also show you a link to the IMAX theaters that are closest to you. That's how I found the ones in Madrid, so perhaps there's one less than 2 hours away from your place.

Thanks, I did check it out. The IMAX are all packed into the Phoenix metroplex area. The state of Arizona is about 59 per cent size of Spain. Anything down in Phoenix is about two hours drive at freeway speeds before you get to the North side of town. It could turn out that we are in Denver or Los Angeles around that time anyway. Best of luck to you on your quest as well.
