Does anyone want to play Supremacy online with me? It will be helpful to see Supremacy do combat in order to understand how to build a CGI combat engine. Supremacy has no AI but if you go online knowing the other player's IP address you can have a game with the living. Mike coded combat in Supremacy but it lacks any CGI to show the action. This will take going into your router and forwarding data from your port 808 to your game PC. If you can figure that out I hope to set up an online game. Your firewall may also need to be opened. We can get started on this project now but with the holidays this may not take place right off. We should also match our game versions. This is one of the last few versions I could find posted by Mike for download. http://www.startreksupremacy.com/SupremacyTest_20110828.zipThis is version 0.4.4257.28090

Sounds great. Would like to test and play some with you. About years I last installed Supremacy. Doesn't matter to me when we can't complete the game or have to shedule on weekends. I'm quite busy too currently, but can manage time most of the time.
I guess when telling Mike coded the combat but CGI is missing, he rather implemented some dummy calculation with no ship movement, right? A good combat with collision detection and AI calculation and such easily gets very complicated to implement, that is why I never attempted it myself yet. Have too much other things on my list.
In case you have ICQ, MSN or Jabber, I send you mine for contact.
cheers

Supremacy is coded to resolve ship to ship combat. You do not cut away to a graphics of the battle but what else happens is what I want to see. I have not done this before. Mike was testing planet assault near the end so we will see about that too.
I do know that you take Multiplayer from the main menu. Then enter your "name" as ID in the game. That will let you host or enter a game by IP address. The host button lights up below when you put in your name or you type in the IP of the host and join a game. I set up my router to forward port 808 to my game PC and have a port rule ready to turn on in my firewall in case it needs access there as well.
I will PM people soon about private contact info.

This is what Mike said about this build: Quote: Seriously, don't even bother trying to use this build for anything other than testing images. It'll be interesting to see what happens, if it's playable or not. A few things were fixed after this build, but the one after this one (Sept IIRC) wouldn't allow declaring war, so it's not really good for MP - and testing combat in particular

Hi all, I installed this version 0.4.4257.28090 SupremacyTest_20110828.zip through, but the game crashes. It tells me via the file error "Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Xna.Framework.dll' or one of its dependencies. Could not find the specified module.". Can anyone help me? Is there another version?

Sounds like you're missing the xna framework. Dunno which version, but try: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... x?id=20914Have not attempted to install Supremacy on my Win8 Pro system yet.

You need: Quote: •The Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 (note: you want the full framework, not the "Client Profile"; after it's installed, you should see both the "Client Profile" and "Extended Profile" listed in your control panel) •Microsoft DirectX Runtime •Microsoft XNA Framework v3.1 Redistributable •Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable •Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable

For some reason, I don't have the 20110828 build installed on my machine (though I do have the zip) - most likely for what Mike said. The previous build, 20110610, had combat working (ground combat, orbital bombardment); the next version, 20111119, had diplomacy screwed up, and consequently combat was not available (you can't declare war). Further versions are only available through the source code, the latest being 20120225, with some fixes; Mike fixed a few more bugs after that, but he hasn't made the code available.

Here are the updated database files for both the public build (May09) and the private builds. If you want to try them, please back up the original files first. Any feedback is welcome. Shipyard output is different in both versions BTW.

Thanks Iceman, If everyone has the May 9 release we can test them both. I have three version on my PC. Each is in a different folder.

Since the private builds have been made public, at least you guys should use the "working" build. This one has combat working, so it should at least be cool to invade some systems. Have fun! http://www.startreksupremacy.com/Suprem ... 610.7z.bin(after downloading the file, remove the .bin extension, and unpack with 7zip) However: Quote: •There might be some missing or outdated text, as I haven't merged any of the text files. •The 3D ship models won't show up, as I still need to merge them into TechObjectDatabase.xml (but there are only a few ships with models anyway) If you use the updated data and text files I posted above, you should be fine. There are a few bugs/problems with this build BTW, namely with OpS (you can build as many minor special buildings as you want), formatting, etc.

vjeko1701 wrote: Try connecting to 192.168.1.142 That address is a local area network IP and not an internet IP. If it is your local PC then the router needs to farward a port to it for the game to work. In any case it did not work today. I am going to test the game on my local network next then check with Mike about the port 808. There is a port that the router needs to forward to your gaming PC as well as addressing the port in your PC's firewall. I can go over that in more detail later.

I can write and explanation of doing that but for now I am testing the game locally. More on this later.
